This place was recommended to us by the proprietor of "Frog Alley Leather and Tattoos." Since it was in easy walking distance, we decided to give it a chance and I'm glad we did.  We almost missed it because our "Fearless Leader" was starting to take us OVER the bridge, but one of our distaff members stopped a passerby for directions (naturally).  Turns out, the place is UNDER the bridge, and if we walked over we'd've never seen it.

The clam chowder was WONDERFUL (as I've come to expect when getting clam chowder anywhere in New England).  The "Ragin' Cajun" burger wasn't nearly as spicy as I'd expected but it was still delicious.  I thought it would come with some kind of Cajun/Creole kind of sauce, but it was rather "dry" in that regard so I had to fall back on that good ol' American standby:  KETCHUP.

I didn't bother with the fries and instead got the side Caesar salad which was also very good.  A good recommendation for lunch, and now  I'm passing it along on Yelp.  Enjoy!

American bar food style that doesn't disappoint.  Good local beers on tap, great deals on beers different days of the week.  Service can be a little spotty at times as this restaurant can be a jumping off point for young newbie servers from the nearby high school, but also some seasoned veterans that keep it together.

They sort of got shafted by the new bridge they built which blocks some of their view of the river and kind of puts them in a dark hole underneath Middlebury that you can't really see.

The outdoor seating is excellent.  Stick to the burger and pizza menu, get a beer and you won't be disappointed.  Sit inside and order some "dinner" and you will.  We go to Mister Ups often and really like it!

Our experience was truly awful at this restaurant. We ordered take out and the prices on the web site were not the prices we were charged at pick up. They were lower on their site and said that they were updating it and that's why we were being charged more. On top of that, they got the order wrong. I called and asked to speak to the manager. I told her about what happened and she said that I could come back and they'd give me what I ordered. I wasn't able to. Instead of doing the right thing and telling me I could get it at any time or she'd have someone deliver it, her response was "sorry". That's it. Not what I expect from a manager. And the food we did receive was terrible.  Don't waste your time going there with tons of other places to choose from in Middlebury. A total and complete disappointment in every way.

Solid food, love the thumbs and toes and salad bar. Fun sitting in back on the water.

The food is OK.  It won't disappoint you and it won't make you come from miles to eat it.  Same with the service.  Some servers are better than others but all in all you'll get treated well.  The atmosphere is really nice, although the under the bridge motif they now have going makes me feel like I'm going to see a "live nude girls sign" when driving past.  That aside, it is a good place to have a drink, eat some food, and hang out.  The deck is an added bonus in appropriate months.

The redesign of the streets in Downtown Middlebury has made Mister Ups, unfortunately, invisible from the road. My friends and I went to Mister Ups a few nights during June 2011 when the other bar in town, Two Brothers Tavern, was too full. On the bright side, we often had the whole place to ourselves and the bar food was always great! On the downside, the beer selection was pretty limited and they closed at midnight (Two Brothers stayed open until 2AM every night).

The staff was fine and the environment was pleasant/clean. Overall, Mister Ups was a quieter alternative to Two Brothers.

**I cannot speak for the restaurant/traditional dining area on the first floor.

Went there for lunch the other day not having been there since the bridge was completed. I got an open faced seafood sandwich which was mediocre at best. Service was about the same....indifferent. Clearly they don't make any effort to train their staff. If you want an outstanding lunch go to Costello's and eat in your car if you have to.

First of all, I have to preface this by saying that we eventually decided to not eat at Mister Ups.

We parked under the bridge and walked in, there was a guy nearly passed out in the waiting area, and a group of four waiting to be seated.  We waited a few minutes and flagged down the host.  He asked how many were in our party and we told him 4 Adults and 2 High Chairs.  It was about 6:30 on a Sunday night, but he told us that it would be a fifteen minute wait.  The place was busy, so we said we would wait.

Several more groups entered before us.  A four-top and a three-top were seated, almost as soon as they walked in the door.  Then an eight-top was seated before us--A college women's field hockey team!

When we tried to find the host, he was nowhere to be seen.  And after a few more minutes of hunting him down--where he gave us the fake, I'll be with you in just a few minutes, a waitress tried to seat us in a four-top corner booth with the two high chairs on the same end of the booth, which blocked the cluttered aisle way.

We said, "I'm afraid this won't work," as did the man in the booth next to ours, who would have been barricaded into his seat.  The waitress responded, "Well, that's all we have," and we said, "Fine, we're leaving."  And we did.

The place is filthy, loud and serves college students liquor.  If you are into that kind of thing, (eg a college student) this may be more your cup of tea.  But if you have a family, or are over the age of 22, I'd skip this place entirely, and go ANYWHERE ELSE in town.

The only reason I'm giving Mr. Ups 3 stars is because of their deck - it really is their saving grace.  The food is pretty average (if that) and the service is generally terrible.  This past spring I made a reservation for my birthday (which also happened to be graduation weekend) to sit on the deck. The original date I wanted they had the deck closed for a private party, so we choose another date. Unfortunately whomever took the reservation didn't do it correctly and there we were without a table. The salad bar has really gone downhill was well - but the Mud Pie is delicious so go have a drink and Mud Pie on the deck.

Unfortunately I visited Mr. Ups on a night when they weren't prepared for a big crowd: the final game of the World Cup. Though unpreparedness could be displayed apologetically and with attention to customers when possible, the wait staff did not acknowledge our presence until 1hr after we had sat down, and that was only to meekly ask if someone else had already helped us. By that point we had ordered all of our drinks and food from the bar. The bartender was great and helpful.

It's all in the details: (-) the service was so terrible I can't even remember what I ate.

Used to have a great deck but the bridge they are constructing messes with the view, the ambiance, and generates noise & dust. The food is ok, the location is convenient, and the prices are reasonable. If you sit on the deck facing up river, the bridge isn't visible.

They have a good salad bar and the simple fare on the menu is tasty. The more complicated items on their menu can be good or a flop. The real reason to go to this restaurant is to sit outside on their deck overlooking Otter Creek. There is nothing organc on their menu, but they do have a grass fed buffalo burger. They are gay friendly. The staff is nice but could be more attentive.

Note: Because of the ongoing construction of the Middlebury bypass bridge, it may be difficult to park and noisy while eating in 2010.

Nice bar that serves good pub food.  Several dining areas plus a bar and a covered outdoor deck along the river.  American menu plus not a bad looking salad bar which I did not try.  Had the Bison burger which was cooked as ordered, a very nice medium rare.  French fries were excellent, and freshly made.  Service was excellent at lunch time but it was not very busy.

Can't go to Mr. Ups without getting the Mud Pie!!!!!!! Its famous among townies ... and the salad bar is not too bad for a small town. Great river front deck for summertime!!!

This is a fun place that serves standard bar fare (burgers and fries). They have a few wraps and other stuff. Go out with some friends and chill. Nothing too fancy which is just fine with me.
