Mojo's is the place to be. Punk Rock to the core.

Saying that Ogden has a dirth of "alternative" culture of any form is an understatement. I recently noticed a local punk kid who had hand-drawn patches sown onto his pants, and then I realized that scoring even a basic "Black Flag" patch in this town would be quite the trick. What to do in a state that just ordered every high schooler to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day?

Thankfully there's Mojos, one of the few places in Ogden that is holding it down for "the rest of us." This is a teen hangout extraordinaire, filled with coffee, old chairs and tables, colorful and cartoonish art, and regular live music. The kids there can be rebellious-lite to their heart's content, smoking clove cigarettes outside (or e-cigarettes inside) and looking cool for each other. Ironically, this safe, comfortable place is way more inviting than the multi-million dollar "Junction" across the street, which was partly designed for the Mojos teen crowd - though, of course, with none of their input.

If I had grown up in Ogden, I would have been at Mojos most every weekend, sporting my black fingernails and half-shaved, dyed head. Unfortunately, now I just get to be the "creepy old dude" there.

I love Mojo's. It's a great place. It's very homey and happy and welcoming. Everyone can enjoy this place.

The art is fun. There are always great bands playing. I do wish they had a full service coffee bar with espresso, but their cheap coffee always is good.
