Oh, Moonies, you definitely have an identity crisis! Moonies is a reinvented IC bar that wants to be IC's Jersey Shore, hence it has the nickname 'Club M00nies' (yet fails in trashy guido turnout, thanks to the fact Ithaca has two good colleges in town). It was once a hangout for IC students to just chill, hang out, and get drunk. Moonies is meant to have the soul of a grimy hole in the wall bar in Upstate NY, yet happened to turn into an IC Trustafarian's bar that would perfectly fit in well in a city like New Brunswick or Wildwood. OK, maybe there are a select few patrons who will pay with their hard earned money instead of Daddy's Dime!

It's still got the grimy wood floors, but now has a gigantic glossy granite bar with fiberoptic lights. Oh, and Moonies has doubled in size to fit a dance floor. Drinks are decent, but I'd love to see the day I come back to visit and they start doing $1, $2, anf $3 Happy Hours like you see all over Denver (no such thing as a cheap bar in Ithaca)! Moonies has a $10 credit card minimum, but I guess that is a good thing for a bar; it's an encouragement to drink safely, tip the bartenders (they always have really nice bartenders, so they deserve good tips), and use cash instead.

I'll end my review of Moonies like this: no other bar makes me feel so confused and out of place in a crowd (it sucks that there's no wiggle room to just relax). But If you can get the opportunity to spot a drunk after last call getting away with simultaneously hiding and peeing in a bush (in the Commons) without the cops taking notice (hey, we all know you dare not go into any bathroom at Sammy's or Ameritalia, right?), at least I can say I had a good, fun night at Moonies... once. For that, it gets 4 stars.

I like to hang out here but they let way to many people into the bar to the point its hard to move let alone get a drink... The other night i had to wait for 10 to 15 min to get a drink when they had about 6 to 8 people behind the bar and yes every bar that busy has a bar back but still it should never take that long to get a drink. The bartenders need to move faster, talk less and not stand around banging their bottle openers on stuff to go with the music.

I went here with a few friends for a night out of dancing and drinking. The club was packed (I think it was a Wednesday) and the DJ was spinning a lot of great club and pop hits. The drinks were strong, and the atmosphere was friendly and danc-y. I have walked by this place on other nights and it looks dead, but I would definitely come back with a group of friends on a busy night. Also the bartenders are very friendly although the whistling can get kind of annoying.

2 stars because of fun (but gross) fishbowls and great company.

This place is a DUMP! It smells terrible and you should always wear your rainboots in here because there's about 2 inches of alcohol on the very slippery floor. It's filthy and it smells (because its so hot and sweaty in there), but it's always packed

Definitely one of my favorite bars to date! I go there every weekend if not a few times during the week and I ALWAYS have a good time. The bartenders are all good friends of mine and make it a point to say hello if I come get a drink. Chris always loves to make my favorite drink, the blue orgasm, but I usually hit up the $5 specials. Make it a point to go on Wednesdays, 2-for-1 specials and only $15 fishbowls...but you're guaranteed to be on your ass by the end of the night!

Someone at this bar asked me for coke when I was dropping a deuce in the bathroom. I've got to say, that's the first time I've been propositioned for cocaine under any circumstances. As I exited the stall, someone talking on the phone dropped a racial slur, and looked horrified that someone else heard him. He proved (to himself) that he wasn't a racist by inviting me to help him work on his "fishbowl" -- which is just a fishbowl full of ice, liquor and some other sort of punch.

The granite bar somehow had fiber optic embedded in it, giving a sort of surreal but cheesy light display. They had some TV screens with slideshows of pictures from the bar -- think http://hotchickswithdouc…. As we were closing out, the bartender made us do (complimentary) shots of Jameson before we left.

I'm still confused by the overall experience of this bar. But it was OK by me.

One of the Best Bars in Ithaca! Great atmosphere for a bar in an amazing town. The owners and staff at the bar make you feel really welcomed no matter if there are 10 people or 100+ they're always in a good mood and make you feel good. It's a feel good bar that I would recommend to anyone visiting Ithaca. Moonies is a nice sized bar with seating in the front and the back the bar on one side and they recently just expanded this year and have added a dance floor with a DJ stage , which is amazing for Moonies two awesome DJs who you can find djing Wednesday - Saturday on the other side of the bar. Their happy hours have great drink specials and free food. Moonshadow's or Moonies as college students refer to it has a great knack for keeping things interesting with themed nights as well as reduced drink prices from time to time, you can't help but love this place. So if your ever in Ithaca and want to go to a lively bar that is chill, fun and affordable then Moonies is your bar. I highly recommend this bar to anyone visiting Ithaca it's Amazing!

I once found this bar for sale on Craigslist . . . thought that was interesting!!

Nonetheless, Moonshadows was the only bar in Ithaca I bothered visiting, a long-time favorite of one of my best friends. Decent beer, a swingin' jukebox, cute bartenders, and dart boards make Moonshadow worthwhile. They don't mind if you suck at darts and make holes in the light fixtures, and that makes them pretty damn cool in my book!

This was my regular hangout during my college days. There's not much ambiance, not many beer options, and not a single food option (except for free sandwiches and pizza on Friday during happy hour), but with 2-for-1 deals on just about every night of the week, you really can't go wrong.
