Moonstone Bistro

Recently Had Dinner at Moonstone Bistro for our anniversary.  The restaurant is always clean and the service was fine.  The food this go around was off for some reason.  My wife ordered the Filet Mignon and asked for it Medium Rare.  When she received her meal the steak was seared on each side and virtually raw and cold on the inside.  We usually love the Calamari Appetizer, with the peanuts and vinegar based dipping sauce.  This time, the breading was not sticking to the calamari and the taste was off.  I ordered the Halibut, which was very good, but on the menu they described the dish coming with fresh scallops, and instead they placed shrimp with the entree.  The food was good, but not great, and when you pay $34 for a steak it should be great.

We saw the good reviews on Yelp so decided to give the place a try. The food was a bit pricey and the menu wasn't very big. My wife's fish tacos were a bit spicy for her, but my Moonstone burger was pretty awesome. Overall, it was more hype than what it's worth. We probably won't be back.

This place is amazing.  What an unexpected treat!  We were visiting Redding last week from the San Francisco Bay Area and wanted to try a local restaurant (rather than a chain) for dinner the night before we left.  Boy did we luck out on Moonstone!  This place offers fine dining options in a casual atmosphere at pretty reasonable prices.  Their food is all organic and seasonal and the dishes were very eclectic and presented well.  I felt like i was eating a decadent meal at a fancy restaurant.  I had the tomato salad (OMG so delicious i went to heaven and back) and the shrimp fettucini with the fried fresh mozzarella which was ridiculously good.  I mean, we have restaurants like this in S.F. but they are way fancier and WAY more expensive.  My husband had a salad with the homemade dressing (sorry can't remember which one) which he thought was delicious and the burger with the fresh baked bun which he also had to admit was the best meat he's tasted in quite some time (organic, grass fed is always the way the go!)  The whole meal was flawless and so was my cosmopolitan by the way.  The bartender clearly took great pride in every drink he made - i saw him meticulously blending and tasting each drink (hygenically with a taster straw) to make sure each one was perfect.  It's obvious that these people take what they are doing very seriously and every detail is accounted for.  They are perfection!  Now if only they would move their operation down south so i can go there every weekend and try everything on their menu.  The best i've had in years and years - highly recommended!!
