Size isn't always everything, as the 501 flawlessly proves. Â Nestled in a tiny alley off California street, this tiny little bar is a breath of fresh air for anyone who just wants to feel the love. Â Since it is a gay bar, it is a very tolerant atmosphere full of fun, bouncy people. Â It's dark as hell in there, and the jukebox is constantly streaming Lady Gaga and old rap songs. Â The painfully adorable bartenders (Eric, Tommy, Daniel and Chad I am talkin' to you!) mix great, strong cocktails and have ever-changing specials. Â Jagerator? Â Check. Â Pool table you can dance on (with a leopard print cover, natch)? Â Check. Â If you are feeling brave, try the vodka-soaked cherries in the canister behind the bar. Â I have, and won't again. Â Add in a mannequin wearing a boa perched high above the bar, constant streaming photos of fun times past on the TV, and the distinct feeling that glitter is about to rain down on you at any moment, and you have the 5. Â Even on a random weekend night you can walk in alone and find great company. Â On the weekends, be prepared to smash in shoulder to shoulder with other partygoers and dance in a big sweaty mash of electric energy. Â Come celebrate who you are at this wonderful little bar, gay straight or somewhere in between! Â But bring your paper, lest you get hit with an ATM fee - they are cash only.
