Good evening!
I took my college graduate daughter and one of her best friends to dinner here on 2/9/2013 and we had reservations. Â The restaurant was half empty and they sat us right in front of the music, a bit strange I thought. Â We proceeded to pick out our appetizers, calamari and dips and pita bread and also our entrees. Â Ribeye, snapper and a pasta dish were ordered. Â The dip appetizer came out in 15 minutes and then the calamari came out 20 minutes after that. Â Our entrees came out over an hour after we sat down and the ribeye was cold. Â Totally unacceptable for the price that we were paying, which my philosophy is that I will pay any amount for good food. Â Our waitress was more concerned with what was going on at the bar than us and my snapper looked like an appetizer plate not an entree. Â We spent over $120 and to tell you the truth we walked away very unhappy and still hungry and wondered why people talk about this place. Â I hear the burgers at the place across the street are awesome!
DO NOT GO HERE!!!!
Ok it seems like some people ate at a different restaurant to us, judging by the uniformly glowing reviews. Or maybe some reviews are written by "friendly sources". Â
So tonight we ate the single worst meal I've had in many years.  Not just me, but also my 3 dining companions. Sat upstairs in the bar, ordered off both the bar menu and also the downstairs restaurant menu. Two of us ordered the Calamari appetizers off the main menu  - soggy, oily, virtually tasteless, and served without either lemon or any sauce. Worst, the food was cold towards the outside of the dish, hot towards to the center, ie clearly precooked and then microwaved. As if that wasn't bad enough, a request or lemon or possibly a Marinara sauce went unanswered. Hard to make it any worse, but just to make matters worst, sending it back brought a fresh plate (at least 15 mins later) that was NO BETTER. Whoa.. So maybe the entrees would turn things around? Nope. Two of us had fish for the entrees, and two of us had the bar menu Steak sandwiches. If anything, all of these were worse than the appetizers. the fish tasted well, just old, like it was actually stale, possibly 'off'. the steak sandwiches were closer to ok, but uninspiring, and served with what tasted like oven heated fries. The very attractive young lady behind the bar bought me a glass of wine.. While I'm grateful for the gesture, in truth I am pissed to have been charged for ANY of the food, it was that bad.
This is a lengthy review - Good reviews can be stated in several lines, but bad reviews deserve some explanation.. I find it hard to reconcile our experience with some of these glowing reviews here. Not pointing fingers at other Yelpers as I generally trust Yelp reviews, but this was more than a let down. If you choose to disregard my warnings and try The Morgan House then please comment accordingly and let other Fort Myers visitors know what to expect.
Conclusion:
Negative 1 star for The food, positive 2 stars for the complimentary glass of wine. All in all, as a restaurant it's an embarrassment. Fort Myers is trying hard to promote the downtown "scene".. Free valet parking is all well and good, but trust me, if this is what the tourists get for close to $40 per head, then its a wasted effort. Â DO NOT GO.
Could be the worse meal I have ever had. Fried calamari came out - two portions. Both cold. Sent them back, the replacement came out colder. Hard to comprehend. The snapper was poorly cooked, and was barely room temperature. Â I cannot believe a kitchen would let food came out like is. Â Almost inedible. Â This is not a place to go to.
This is the FIRST negative review I have written for YELP. We had nothing but great experiences with YELP. Â This was not one of them.
DO NOT go here.
