Muddy Moose is a great little family restaurant. Â The menu is similar to Outback Steakhouse: Â Think burgers, steaks, chicken and ribs, plus a nice selection of sandwiches and wraps. Â
Since the wait for a table was a little long, my husband and I decided to belly up to the bar... Boy are we glad we did! Â The bartender was great! Â Friendly, attentive... and a jokester. Â He had a fake bottle of "squirting" ketchup... Yes, I fell for it, but we all had a good laugh.
We have eaten here before when in North Conway so that is why we stopped in again. In the past we have enjoyed our meals but this time not so much.
We got there right when it opened we were the first customers of the day. The boyfriend and I both got burgers and the bread tasted old and the burger itself just didn't taste right.
I gave them three stars because in the past we have enjoyed our meals. So it seems like its a hit or miss. I would cautiously reccomend this place. 3 out of the 4 times we have been there our meals have been good.
The New Hampshire-Maine border doesn't exactly make the top ten list of America's great restaurant destinations. But as far as I'm concerned, put The Muddy Moose up there with some of my favorite places to eat, drink, and be merry.
Yes, the evironment is predictable - a modernized log cabin with moose-related crap everywhere. But it's not Chuck-E-Cheez either... In its own way, it's a little slice of Americana.
The menu is not going to blow you away with wild choices, but that's alright, you didn't vacation in Northern New England so you could have an arugula salad. I love the ribs here - one of the more unique sauces I've ever had. French Onion Soup deserves a lot of credit too.
Really reasonable from a pricing standpoint, friendly New Hampshire waitstaffers, good times. It's one of the best on the North Conway drag.
I love the woodsy/log cabin theme of Muddy Moose. It was the perfect restaurant theme for our trip to the area which consisted of wintry activities like sleigh rides, ice skating, and relaxing at the inn. Check out more of my reviews of US restaurants, attractions, and activities on my travel blog.

yOU HAVE TO HAVE A BLOODY MOOSE AT LEAST ONCE WHILE YOU'RE UP THERE!!! Â The food is good, not incredible but pub food is pub food. Â You can try things like Bison etc. Â The atmosphere is nice, log cabin like with a beatufitul light wood bar and stools and antler chandeliers. Â Beautiful view if you get to sit on the deck.
Review Source:Came across the Muddy Moose as we were passing by. Looked pretty interesting from the outside. Was just as interesting inside.
When we walked in we were happy to see it was as we expected. Cabin type feeling inside with pine floors, bar top, Antler chandeliers, etc. We immediately took a seat at the bar (my norm). The bartender was very kind and was quick to take care of us. Â We had a great time talking with both the bartenders who were very funny, nice guys. They had a pretty good selection of drafts and the Sox game was on. Bar gets an A+. I ended up getting a bison burger which was pretty good, perfectly cooked, just nothing that was overly stunning. Katie got the Ranger Rupert steak tips. Her steak tips were amazing. Perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth (I got to try one).
Our general take on The Muddy Moose is that it is a pretty good family style restaurant. Plenty of decorations that will keep the kids busy and their imagination running wild. They also seem to have a pretty good children's menu. The dining area is nice and open and has good views out the back. There is also a large outside dinning area which looks like it could be quite nice on a summer evening.
We have visited a few times and will probably stop in if we are passing by. I would be more interested in sitting to get a few drinks and appetizers and probably get dinner somewhere else that has a more "adult" style menu.
Driving up to met some friends for a weekend ski trip, we passed the Muddy Moose and i thought to myself "with a name like that, i bet they do a TON of tourist business." Â When my compatriots talked about heading there the next day for dinner, i quickly yelped it to see if i could introduce some statistical influence to the conversation. Â Seeing a 3.5 star rating, i stayed quiet and it ended up being the dinner choice. Â I actually found the food (enchilada plate) to be quite good. Â I'm not exactly surprised that some find the food quality to be uneven, but i can only review what i had, which was pretty yummy.
Definitely agree w/ the Bugaboo Creek feel, but i have fond memories of that place as a youth - perhaps i'm being overly positive because of the nostalgia, but i would certainly go back to the Muddy Moose.
Ok, we fell for the cute sign with a moose on it and decided to eat here. Of course i did not look it up before eating here or i would've changed my mind. Nothing from our meal was memorable. This place does surprisingly well for not having good food. I guess it's all about the location. I think of this place reminds me of a bugaboo creek but not much better.
Review Source:Totally annoyed that I picked this place to eat. Not too many lunch customers here and it still took excruciatingly long to get our food. Apps and meal arrived together too. Salad was in edible due to some weird bitter taste. Then I had the pleasure of eating cold steak and baby carrots. The only delicious thing was onion rings which is pretty much what my son ate for lunch. When I told the waitress the food was cold she literally put her finger on her chin and said "hmm". Â That was it. Then I told her about the salad and she said "really?". Â Sorry this place sucks. Get it together. How hard is it to cook a steak? Â And why so darn slow?
Review Source:The portions were very large, so you get your money's worth. I ordered the Venison sausage pasta dish and it was very tasty. They also have Buffalo burger, I'll try it next time I'm in the area. I went there will a large (30+) group and they sat us in a semi-private room next to the bar. The staff was very attentive and made good recommendations on drinks and food for the undecided folks in our group. I sampled a couple of their micro-brews and they were very good. Overall the service, drink and food were very good.
Review Source:The Muddy Moose is great pub grub and a few items on the menu would fit in any good restaurant.
It is definitely a family restaurant with a friendly waitstaff  that is always willing to please.
I have been there many times over the last five years and maybe once I had an okay meal, the rest have been
tasty burgers, great sandwiches, fish, mussels and a fun list of appetizers.
Free refills for the kid drinks... you get the point.
Weather permitting you can sit outside on the deck (yes it is quieter), there is a bar with several large TVs for those sports enthusiasts,
but you can also watch the game from a table.
Not cheap but not expensive.
Great place
The Muddy Moose is a decent looking restaurant with nice staff, outdoor seating, and unremarkable food.
The interior of the Moose is log cabin-ish with high ceilings, antler chandeliers and the heads of stuffed Moose on the walls. Tha bar stools kind of neat and the place looks really clean and well maintained.
Our hostess and waitress were both very nice, helpful and attentive.
I find it hard to comment on the food, since it was pretty average. Not bad, not great, just average.
This place does well because it is one of the first restaurants that all the Massachusetts tourists see when they are driving to North Conway. They see the giant moose on the restaurant's sign and go "awwwww, that's cute". Â And so they pull in and help encourage this restaurant to stay in business, ready to snag the next tourist that comes along in 45 seconds.
Well, I'm here to tell you that this place is ONLY for tourists. Real residents do not eat here much because the food is on par with Denny's and Friendly's, and the wait times are usually astronomical on the weekends. Service is either OK or sub-par, depending on the day. I've tried a few things on the menu, and I would never order the same thing again. Is that the type of restaurant experience you are looking for? I don't think so.
I'll go here once per year, but that's it. And every time I do, I wonder why I did.
My parents and I were driving in crazy traffic when we passed by this place and decided to go, because my dad wanted steak and the Muddy Moose looked like a place with steak! We were seated immediately, which was nice. It was reaaaaally cold inside, but the people were friendly and service was great. The food however, was pretty subpar. I got a quesadilla with steak, it didn't really have a flavor besides cheese...even the salsa it came with was bland. The chicken on my mom's greek salad was good, but on the whole the salad was just average and fine. My dad got the steak tips and I thought they were bland as well. So the food overall was bland, but not bad, just passable.
HOWEVER, the onion rings were amazing! I am super picky about onion rings, and these were some of the best I've had. Super crunchy, not soggy at all, and a great flavor. Get the onion rings!!!
I've been to the Muddy Moose a number of times, maybe 7 or more. The food is always good. I've had burgers, chicken sandwiches, ribs, salads and have never been disappointed. The onion rings are delish. The service is always good and they have plenty of tables so even if there is a wait it tends to move fast. Good for lunch or dinner, good for a big groups and good for families. All in all just good.
Review Source:With all the good offerings in the area i don't understand why anybody would eat here. The decor is fun and gives the place a nice vibe but then the food was served. My clam chowder was ok but for a entree i ordered a rack of ribs. This is the first time i have complained about ribs in my entire life. The sauce was bland and if i had cooked a bag of loyds ribs from the grocery store it would have been better. My companion ordered a burger and to be kind she was less than impressed.
All in all my meal wasn't awful but with a menu as boring and cookie cutter as this one what you see is what you get.
Great date night for me. We were seated at the bar because it was pretty packed. The place has awesome character. The service is good. You feel comfortable right away because this place has a touristy clean professional ambiance with a family-owned service attitude.
We sat at the high bar stool table and I will post a picture for you. You can't miss the place because the sign has a huge Moose face on it. The name of the restaurant is def memorable too. I went there three years ago and recalled the name immediately and I don't remember names well.
I ordered the Fresh Grilled Salmon -4stars
This Maine salmon is grilled to perfection and topped with our cool Hawaiian pineapple corn salsa. I choose the carrots cooked in maple syrup and rice. Those carrots were memorable little babies that I gobbled up. I think I was generous enough to share a couple with my date too. My date had the ribs I think and I think this because I vaguely remember slurping noises...and I think, smacking his lips, and sucking the BBQ sauce from his fingers and a lot while eating. He had sweet potato fries too. I think that was my first time trying them! Now, I'm in love with sweet potato fries!
Service was good-forgot my camera there and called them. They had it and held it for me to pick up the next weekend. I lived in Concord, NH at the time. The manager was so nice. The person said they would mail me my camera!! That kind of genuine hospitality is very rare.
No negative remarks!
My boyfriend and I visited North Conway in early January for his birthday. We stopped by the Muddy Moose for a late lunch. The atmosphere was casual, but still warm and inviting. The waitstaff was pleasant and did a great job. Our food came very quickly, and I had one of the best burgers I've had in a very, very long time. Definitely recommended!
Review Source:This place was very popular seeing that it was very crowded at about 5:30 when we weren't expecting that. Â The wait staff was great and working very hard to get thru a busy dinner service. Â
We ordered the nachos to start which did have an excess of jalapenos, but aside from that, they were delicious. Â I ordered the chicken breast which was awesome. Â My mother ordered the fish, and my brother had a chicken sandwich which was great.
Came to North Conway for storyland and decided to go here for dinner. Â The food was pretty good and my 1 and 4 year old enjoyed it as well.
The kids had Grilled Cheese and French Fries. Â I know you can't screw that up, but both kids really liked it. Â My wife had a Venison Pasta dish that she said was excellent.
I had the Onion soup which had a lot of Cheese and was very tasty. Â I then had the 3/4 lb sirloin Steak with Baked Potato. Â It was very goor, but I thought just slightly overpriced.
For dessert, we had the Moosetrack Ice Cream, some chocolate dessert and the Virgin Mudslide. Â They were all very good.
They know how to get you in and out of the restaurant but at no time did we feel rushed. Â
This was a Wednesday night and we just missed the rush. Â When we left there was a 20 minute wait.
I really liked everything about this place. It is the best in the area for lunch (but the name bothers me for some reason.. it sounds like diarrhea or something).
Great service, great food, great portions, no wait.
Just good all around.
This was one of the only places we got a decent meal around here.
Was a little nervous when we arrived. Party of 8(4 adults 4 kids). Took some time to get a table in an empty restaurant and overheard the hostess ask if our server could handle it. However, she was amazing. Efficient and ZERO mistakes. She also left off an auto tip and ended up with more than the 18% because of it. The good is great pub fair. Place is clean and so were the bathrooms.
Recommend
For our second night in North Conway we decided to go to the second restaurant our hotel management had suggested (the first being Delaney's Hole in the Wall).
First off the decor is a conversation piece - antlers EVERYWHERE! The service was friendly, timely and very nice staff.
The food was fine, I can't say I was blown away.
This place would get better reviews from me if it wasn't crammed down my throat by the unadventurous fellow members of our ski-team.
Its half-way decent food that's quite over priced, and quite frankly the whole atmosphere is a little full of itself for a place that's just middle of the road.
This place is great! Â Went on a ski trip with my girlfriend this past winter and decided to check this place out, like most people would, because of the name.
Checked out the reviews before we went and they were saying that this place was OK but just had to check it out. There was a short wait but we were also there at a busy time. The place was packed but when we got our seats we had our space and didn't feel like anyone was on top if us. Food was very good and went down great with a local beer (Switchback).
They put a lot of time into decorating the place and it looks great! Bright woods filled the walls of the restaurant and there were antler chandeliers that look very cool. Will definitely go back next time we're int he area!
We walked in past a large line waiting for dinner to sit at the bar for just cocktails.
I ordered the trail side breeze, a specialty drink. Was about 90% pineapple juice. My companion ordered a tuckerman's, it was flat. Hard time getting the bartenders attention to send it back. Not impressed.
I was pleasantly surprised with the Muddy Moose. Service was excellent, the views outside are certainly wonderful. We tried some apps (ribs and potato skins) were both yummy...especially the ribs. Â I tried the buffalo enchilada's. Â They were pretty good. But my wife's fettuccine alfredo took the prize as well all sampled it repeatedly. Who would have thought that a beef lodge would have very good pasta?!?!
As for the decor, it doesn't get more cliche' NH than this place but it was fun nonetheless. Everywhere you look you can see wood, moose, skis, etc... That said, we will definitely go back.
Loved the deck (fantastic view) - they should make it bigger!!
We got to the Muddy Moose at 11:28. It opened at 11:30. And not only were people already waiting outside, but more and more cars kept coming!! Which made me think we must have found a hot spot.
Our waitress was very friendly, even if she didn't check in on us too often (and both times, my mouth was filled with food).
On the waitress' recommendation, I went for the Southwest Chicken Wrap: Tender strips of grilled chicken with a light southwest seasoning rolled in a sun-dried tomato wrap with homemade black bean salsa, wild rice, Jack and cheddar cheese and our creamy poppy seed dressing.
This was MESSY. I had rice and chicken everywhere!!
My fiance got The Buccaneer: A grilled chicken breast topped with BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheddar cheese, served on a bulkie roll with lettuce, tomato and Bermuda onion.
When I asked how it was, he said the chicken was pretty tough, which made me realize that mine was too - hence the difficulty breaking off pieces!!
We were both super stuffed after our meal - which was tasty (especially the fries), but not the best I've ever had.
I won't be back in North Conway anytime soon, but the only reason it seems to me to go here is for the outdoor seating and the amazing view.
Great Rustic Pub!
Nothing like hittin' the Muddy Moose after a long day at Story Land, or watching your wife spend all of your money at the Outlet Stores! Nachos and Bonelss Buffalo wings hit the spot...Burgers were great, fries were great, others had Onion Rings (or Strings), also great....but the 24oz Sam Adams in a frosty mug sealed the deal!
This place hit the spot. Really like the Rustic look and feel of it too. I'm a softie when it comes to knotty pine and antler chandeliers....and I think that's a part of what makes this place so popular!
