The first thing everyone should know is that it is Mulligan's! Let me explain...
I went to college right up the hill at CalArts. My first time here I came after a book reading on a Thursday night. Being a BFA Â who had just turned 21 I was glad when I could hang out with like minded people. We walked into Mulligan's and it was there I realized that it is possibly one of the most amusing places. It is the place you go to when you just want to have some cheap drinks and hang out with friends. The key to Mulli's is HAVE GOOD PEOPLE WITH YOU!!!
Heather is a sweet heart and has been the bartender there for 10 years and every CalArtian that has gone here knows her. Daryl is a damn good karaoke host. Well Drinks are 450, Beers range 4+, Martinis 7.
Oh get some popcorn too.
If you are looking for an uptight, douche filled, yuppie watering hole like the rest of this area then don't bother stopping. My wife and i moved to the area a few months ago and have tried several bars and restaurants in the area only to be surrounded absolute yuppie tool bags. Go to Mulligans on a Friday or Saturday night for the karaoke, the crowd is a mix of young to way too damn old to be drinking and they are actually pretty damn legit at the singing. Its a fun place to let loose and see some weirdos. Not sure about the food though, so stick to the booze.
Review Source:I went into this place looking for a decent meal and a beer. When I walked in, it was empty. Â There is no hostess. Just a bell that says ring to be seated.
Moving past this I sat myself at the bar. There were only two patrons and the bartender. Despite this, it took nearly ten minutes for the bartender to acknowledge me. The place was empty! Â I was five feet from her and it took ten minutes!! Â (literally sitting at the bar with her right on the other side). The bartender was Heather. Â The entire time there she said maybe two words to me. (whoever does the hiring should look at their staff. In this economy, people who actually want a job are eager and looking)
I finally got my beer, and then ordered the Shepherds Pie. Very reasonable cook time. Â Maybe ten minutes tops. The problem? Â It was still frozen on the inside! So obviously the food wasn't prepared fresh. Â
Just an all in all bad experience. I won't go back, nor will I recommend it to my clientele.
We used to really like this place, not anymore. Â Went a couple of weeks ago on a friday night. There were 6 of us.
Waitress took our order, the disappeared and someone else delivered our food and semi took care of us.
The food is now not good and over priced. Â My Reuben was dried out and had not much meat for ten bucks. Â Chicken teriyaki bowl was supposed to be white meat and wasn't with frozen veg. Â That person took their meal home because they couldn't eat it. Â Even her he eats everything husband wouldn't touch it.
Hamburgers were meh according to those that ordered them. Â Clam chowder had nice pieces of clam and potatoes, good thickness, but unfortunately mostly tasted like flour
It wasn't an isolated incident, we went a couple months ago, then decided to give them one last shot. Â That's it. We are done with the place. Â Prices for food is not worth what they are dishing out.
Such a shame.
This used to be where me & the hubby would go for a great prime rib cause everything else on the menu kinda sucked. Â I'm not sure what has happened, but now even their prime rib is a gross dried out brick. Â It's consistency seemed like it had been leftovers and re-heated somehow, NOT fresh. Â We had 2 completely uneaten prime rib dinners, a beer, and an iced tea for a total of $70, a very expensive lesson. Â Never coming back.
Review Source:I will never go here again!!!! Ordered prime rib from the one waitress who could care less and asked for it medium rare and got it medium well smothered in au jus. Â I asked for bread and told it was extra!! Told the waitress how bad and tuff the prime rib was and she said Oh! Â This used to be a great restraunts until 2 bar patrons bought it. Â There is a reason there was only 2 other couples in the place on a Friday night. Outback is a far better choice!!
Review Source:Hubby & I went for date night. Got there around 7:30 pm. This used to be one of the great restaurants in Santa Clarita. Now, as of tonight, I would say it was the worst. I ordered the Prime Rib, Medium. Hubs ordered the Top Sirloin covered in Mushrooms & Jack Cheese. Merlot for me, Beer for Hubs. Hubby ordered a salad that took forever to arrive. Before our waitress brought out his salad, she came back & asked me, "Hon, did you order a salad?" Me; "No, thank you!" The salad I did not order was on our bill. The food arrived cold. My prime rib was more medium well than medium. I am a very good cook. I am familiar with how things taste when they are cooked a certain way. I am quite sure my Prime Rib was cooked earlier & then microwaved for my plate. Overcooked, tasteless, leftovers. My baked potato was overcooked, my veggies were cold. Our waitress was NO WHERE to be found. The Bus Boy had delivered our food. We got him to come back to the table. I said, "My Prime Rib is Medium Well, not Medium." He stood there staring at me. Then he walked away. Waitress comes over to ask if everything is okay. I said; "My veggies are cold & the meat was supposed to be Medium, not medium well." She said; "Do you want me to warm up your veggies?" No mention of meat. Hubby said his meal would have been better at CoCo's. I asked the waitress, "Do you serve bread with dinner?" She said, "I have to charge $2.50 for it." Dear Mulligan's Owner, I hope your Bar Business sustains you because clearly you do not care about your food service. Oh....and by the way, it is not appropriate to have a full restaurant decorated from the ceiling down, with Valentine's Day Decorations on February 25. Just my opinion. I thought about contacting the Manager....but the food was so bad, we will not return, even for a freebie.
Review Source:Oh mulligans, where to start?? First I want to say that this review mostly pertains to the restaurant portion...the bar is decent if a bit overpriced, but we've been here in the past for karaoke and it was fun. We came here for St. Pattys day, and they had advertised food and drink specials. Their idea of a drink special was a 5 buck green beer 3/4 full in a crappy plastic cup. Food specials nowhere to be found. they were serving only a "special" menu that night, and the cheapest entrée was 15 bucks.
First, we were stuck off in the same room as one of the other reviewers (we were actually sitting near them and commented on how rude their waitress was), When we were seated it was super HOT in the room, so we asked they turn on the ac and the fans in the room. The hostess stood on a chair and switched on 2 fans which were old and rickety, and creaked loudly. better than then sweating so we dealt with it.
Our waitress was sweet, but had NO clue about anything we asked her. She said she didnt know and that she was just helping out for today. She didnt even offer to get us answers to our questions. I get it, Irish pub on st pattys day may need some extra help for the day, but for gods sake at least train them a little. So, we ordered and I ended up getting a kids meal for 10 bucks cause nothing on the special menu sounded good. We also ordered fried artichoke hearts for the ap. when the artichokes came I bit into one and it was stone cold. The 3 other people I was with said theirs were ok. We told the waitress and she said, ok let me get you a new order. She took the 3 remaining ones on the plate, and 10 minutes later she brought them back, and they had obviously just thrown the 3 remaining ones in the fryer for a few seconds and threw them back on the plate. Our food came at the same time. My 10 dollar shrimp kids meal had 3 shrimp and a small order of fries, my husbands corned beef and cabbage had a huge 1/4 of a cabbage with a little dried meat and some hard potatoes. our friends baked potatoes were like beef jerky because they had sat under the heat lamps for so long. So, basically including 4 drinks our bill was $120 bucks. Completely ridiculous. At least they gave us wristbands for the party in the bar instead of making us pay the $5 cover charge. Once we got into the bar it was $5 for a can of beer and $3 for a TINY TINY "specialty" shot. The only fun part of the night was the people watching in the bar, including an old lady gyrating her hips, and another old cougar who's fake boob kept flying all the way out of her shirt because she wasn't wearing a bra...Overall, an overpriced mostly horrible experience. I mean, an irish bar on st pattys, shouldnt this be their day to impress people with traditional irish food and good drinks to keep them coming back all year? Instead they dont serve the normal menu, JACK the prices WAAAAAAAAY up,
(weve been there before and the beer sure wasnt $5 a can!) and dont give a hot damn about the service or food. FAIL!!!!
It should be noted that we went here on St. Patrick's Day and, to be fair, I wasn't expecting outstanding anything. Â Irish bars are CRAZY on this day. Â I get it.
However, in my 31 years, I'm not sure I've had a worse experience with a server. Â Again, I get it. Â She'd probably been there all day dealing with drunk fools. Â But it was only 6:30pm and our little group was friendly -- donning silly hats -- but friendly (and sober).
We were put in a back corner in a separate room that we could literally hear the fans creaking in the ceiling. Â No background music, no atmosphere. It felt like sitting awkwardly in someone else's grandmother's living room.
I'll spare you the long version, but we had:
--Our server snatched a menu from one of us and huffed and puffed off
--We ordered a martini and received a plastic shot glass of a questionable substance
--The Long Island Iced Tea we ordered was most definitely a Short Island Melty Water
--In an effort to kill her with kindness (the genuine kind) I offered her a carnation, knowing she'd probably had a rough day. Â She left me with arm stretched out, flower in hand and no response. Â She wouldn't even look me in the face.
--Finally, we found a rusty nail (no joke!) in our pitcher of water
Ultimately, it will be an evening we'll always laugh about. Â So THANK YOU for that, Mulligans. Â But as far as everything else you had to offer as a restaurant/bar -- sorry guys, FAIL.
I've always driven past the sign to Mulligan's on my way to the freeway and thought, "Cheese and Rice! (like Jesus Christ but with less blasphemy) that place has been here forever! Well last night when we were trying to think of a good place to grab a drink for my friend's birthday for some reason this was the first place to come to mind.
We arrived around 10:30 pm. Our friends were already in the outside patio enjoying some beers. We relaxed for a bit and enjoyed the live music. The musicians of the band came over shortly after that with a tip bucket that said, "starving students fund". Well I have a slow to connect brain and didn't realize that these starving students were also the musicians and thus didn't tip them. I thought, "Well man I'm starving too." While I was driving home I made the connection and felt stupid for not tipping them because they were very talented.
We had a few drinks. They were a little weak but that sort of matched the price tag so what can you expect. As we were leaving we noticed a game of bean bag toss in the back. I think that's a great way to liven up any half-drunk evening. Overall Mulligan's seems like a fun place to unwind and enjoy a game of bean bag toss, some complimentary popcorn and a not too strong drink.
Been wanting to try this place since I moved out here five years ago and it took an almost expired Screamin' Coupon to do it. Place seems to have been around Valencia forever. It's totally an old-school hangout with a bar on one side with popcorn, a jukebox and the occasionally karoake and on the other side, the dining room with no TVs blaring but just a place to settle back and have a good steak or something. Service was really good especially since my waitress was also tending bar. I started out with the wings which my waitress warned me would really be spciy. Ah, but she doesn't understand the power of living in New Orleans! They did have a little burst of the spice upon first bite but for me, there was no spice overkill. Soup was a corn chowder. Don't know if it was freshly made but it did taste good, plenty hot and lots of corn flavor. After reading many recommendations on Yelp, I had to give the Prime Rib a shot. Asked for an end cut, which at 5om I figured they had, but didn't. So I got a mostly well done piece. Came with Au Jus on top which I would've preferred having on the side. Probably needed it though since it was a little dry. Overall good. Mashed potatoes were homestyle with nice, big lumps but not enough garlic. Bread was decent but nothing outstanding. For the SCV, this would be a four star place but overall, I'm ranking it three. Good place, very good service and I probably would give it another crack especially for the pastas.
Review Source:This review pertains to the restaurant portion of their operation. Â They operate a bar as well with live entertainment some nights. Â But tonight, we were here to dine in.
I have a long history with this place, back about 18 years I was going here. Â This used to be one of my wife's and my favorite places. Â We soured on the food after they made a couple changes to one of my wife's favorite dishes. Â Then, we had a run in with the owner who used to yell at people for parking in the common lot in front of the restaurant at 11am and going to the church nearby (they have since changed owners). Â Really, the parking lot is huge so we were never clear on the problem.
So, we had not been for years and decided to stop on in. Â Well, not a lot has changed here. Â The menu is still the same. Â This is their downfall I think. Â There is not a lot of selection and all of it is very average. Â There is still the "steak, mushrooms and more mushrooms," the "tequila shrimp," the "shrimp and steak skewers" and of course their "famous" prime rib. Â After eating here several dozen times over the years, you get tired of seeing the same things. Â But, we continued on.
We were seated and waited, and waited. Â A full 13 minutes after being seated, they finally brought us waters and bread (at 15 minutes it is my policy to leave, so it was close). Â The waitress took our order. Â She was a bit rough, offered no apologies but seemed she was trying to make an effort. Â I went with the prime rib, medium rare.
The food came. Â The prime rib looked medium rare, thanks to the au jus they put on it. Â One cut into it though and I found it was well done, not even close and not edible in my book. Â
I sent it back and then listened to the waitress and cook argue over who gets to take my sent back prime rib home. Â Having worked in a restaurant, this happens. Â But, it should not be something you argue about within earshot of the customers. Â We were not sitting close to the kitchen. Â This place is so quiet with no music playing that you could not help but hear.
Anyway, they brought me a new piece and it was cooked to exactly medium rare. Â It was just OK though, the meat did not taste like choice meat and it really could have used better seasoning on it. Â For the price, I expected better.
In the end, there is nothing that compels me to return to eat here.
Well....I used to have a 5 star review of Mulligan's. Â Then tonight happened. Â We ordered prime rib which has always been the best thing to get here. Â Right before our steaks came out, I saw another review that had been posted about 30 minutes before we came in. Â Holy crap! Â This Prime Rib was clearly reheated from a previous (or multiple) reheatings. Â It was dry and grey all the way through. Â I was so grossed out after only two bites I wanted to leave as fast as humanly possible. Â Then our $80 bill came in, and solidified that we will never, ever come back. Â
Make no mistake, this isn't a problem with waitstaff, it's a problem with management. Â You do no reheat prime rib and still call it that. Â Only Mimi's pizza has been able to rekindle anything close to what I would call my appetite. Â
Don't come here. Â It's done. Â Well done.
Mulligans is one of those rare places in Valencia that a developer forgot to turn into a TGI Friday's or golf store back in the late nineties. Depending on who you are, this is either  good news or bad news.
The restaurant is a decently decorated Irish grill. The majority of the menu is your typical assortment of grill food, i.e burgers and sirloins at about the same price as the franchises. I found my burger to be cooked exactly as I ordered it, and the vegetables in my salad tasted fresh. Our waitress was very friendly and patient, even though every time I went here to eat it was with about 10 CalArts students and a professor to have class+dinner.
And what can I say about the bar? Be prepared for a very surreal, creepy portrait of Santa Clarita's hardest. The crowd is about 80% blue collar regulars, 18% Community College Bro's and Bimbos, and 2% Other/CalArts students. Be prepared for some very interesting characters, many times we've had complete strangers sit down at our table and tell us their (horribly depressing) life story. The worst is when once their done telling you some fucked up story about their life, their mom shows up and joins your table to tell her fucked up story as well (no joke). Other than that slight negative, the drinks are strong and the service is friendly and fast. Mulligans is  the only bar in Valencia where you can feel the energy of people that don't want to drink, but need to drink.
Wow what a night!
I was here last weekend and of course barely remember the details. All I know is that I drank a lot, which made me pee a lot, then I drank a lot some more, and sang, yes sang because they have karaoke.
Crap!
They had a weird mix of music in the song book. They'll have a popular artist but not one of the songs they're known for. Instead you get stuck with some song by Prince that you've never heard before because it 1) wasn't a popular hit and 2) probably came out on his B-sides (don't know if Prince release any B-sides but I'm sure you catch my drift and I'm not talking about the back door being open. Geez it was like 2 degrees on Saturday!)
The drinks are freakin strong and the bartenders are super awesome! The crowd is mostly locals and stranger who will pick a fight with you if you sing a song incorrectly. Trust me I've heard the horror stories.
I know they serve food but the restaurant was closed when we arrived. Instead they have a popcorn machine in the back by the patio door. Yes they also have a patio but like I said it was 2 degrees out Saturday and I spent most of my time huddled for warmth inside and clutching the karaoke mic. Can you believe I was drunk enough to sing? I hope everyone brought ear plugs.
