Murphy's Steakhouse

Drove in rain from La Grange to Winchester on a sat night. 45 min wait turned into 1 1/2 hour wait, while listening to others come in and tell how they knew they made reservations but for whatever reason were not on the books, then they were seated and we were again bumped back. After we were seated no one waited on us for over 15 minutes. Waitresses waited on everyone around us but never even stopped to see if we had been waited on, hard not to notice. We had to get up and go to a waitress and ask could we possibly be waited on. She came to us and said our waitress was helping the table behind us, 10-12 people. She took our drink orders and 10 minutes later our waitress came. She was very personable but had to much to do and we were going to get the short end of the stick. Took a while to get our order, 3 of us ordered steaks, 1 sirloin and 2 filets. The filets were ordered medium rare and blood was pouring out of our steaks, I for one could not eat such a rare steak and after another 5 min finally got the attention of our waitress. She put my potatoe in a styrofoam container took my steak and it was over 15 min later when I got up went to the bar and asked could the boy behind the counter find out about my steak, no one else to ask. Waitress came out later with steak and it was gray, still blood red on the inside, I was not going to eat this either.  She said she would take it off the bill, in the interim the bartender came over at the same time and said he would get me another wine on him, at which time I told him I did not want a second glass of wine. My daughter was giving me pieces of her steak and my friend was eating her raw steak. Our bill was totally screwed up and I took it over to the bar to have someone explain what it all meant. I was charged for the 2 glasses of wine, salad bar, bean bar and a baked potatoe. The bartender was rude and immature and sarcastic. They took off the one glass of wine, which was still full on my table and informed me when someone orders the $20 steak and doesn't like it you are still charged for everything else. I could have asked for the raw steak and taken it home for my dog, and come out better on the bill. Shameful, it was my daughters birthday, I am eating part of her steak out of a styrofoam box at 9:00 at night and dealing with this bologna, and an immature boy behind the bar. He told me he gave me a free glass of wine, what else did I want. I told him I was driving and did not want another glass of wine, had finished the one I had, would have liked to have drank it with my filet that was never cooked properly. Just a ripoff and not friendly at all.

Very slow service.  Mediocre food.  Good prices.  Place always has a big crowd but cant understand why.  For people who live in the area there are not many option but certainly not worth driving to.

I'll give it five stars because I can get steak, a side, and a cheap salad for less than $20. This is what a five-star $20 steak tastes like.

If I had this same steak at an expensive downtown Austin restaurant, it wouldn't be worth three stars.

It was fun to go out and check out this place.  I liked that I could wear a torn up t-shirt and hat.  Couldn't be more casual.
