My memory at Music Box was all a blur, but I'm giving it 4 stars based on the fact that I had fun and the bits and pieces that I actually remember. Â
Main points:
-Decent sized room
-Have a lot of recent "hits"
-Good selection of songs
-They play the actual music video for most of them instead of some random fobby rendition that is usually irrelevant to the song
-Every person is forced to order a drink
Came here during weekend happy hour (2 PM to 8 PM) and overall it was a mixed (both good and bad) experience.
Our group rented VIP box ($18 flat rate per person during happy hour, but must have minimum of 10 guests - and one complementary drink). VIP room has a projection screen, a pool table, a bar table, and another HDTV hidden at the back corner.
Horrible remote control (which was the biggest drawback). How can you enjoy your experience with a such non-user-friendly interface? Most of selections were Chinese and English songs. Drink was average, nothing impressive about it.
$18 flat rate for 6 hours of karaoke isn't a bad deal (assuming your have at least 10+ guests), but song selection interface definitely needs an improvement (I don't know if touch screen is necessary the better solution, but at least it's a lot better than the current remote control system).
Found this place on Yelp, and came here on a Saturday night with 8 people. It had some great qualities, and some not-so-great ones. We'll start with the good news:
- Clean, spacious rooms
- Cheap! We paid $16 each for a few hours and one tea drink each. It was $45 per hour for a group our size.
- Videos are official music videos. Even for the way-older songs, ever seen official videos for Love Shack or How Deep is Your Love? Neither did we! We didn't realize it in the 90s, but Spice Girls videos are pretty bizarre. And N*SYNC videos have a LOT of man-midriff.
- You can turn the original vocals on/off, good for shy people or if you don't really know a song well.
- Decent variety of songs in a variety of languages.
- Staff is incredibly helpful and nice. The girl at the desk came in to give us an "orientation" to use the song selection screen. She was so happy and bubbly that it was hard not to be too. Would have been even more happy if it weren't for.....
- NO ALCOHOL. None. You can't even bring your own, as a security guard checks bags on the way in. I understand they may not have a license to serve it, but drinking and singing were MADE for each other! I was surprised at how much fun I had regardless, but we did call it an earlier night than we would have if it had been more... lubricated.
- I'm sorry, a guard checking bags is a little tacky, too.
- Only 2 mics, no matter the group size.
- Instead of books of songs, there was only an electronic "terminal." You use a remote to select songs by language, then by male/female/group, or you can search. To be honest, it's a cool feature but takes a while to browse. Only one person can really browse or control the song selection at a time. Having a book in addition to the terminal would be nice.
- Minimum order of one drink per person. One tea drink, that is.
- No "Regulate" or "No Diggity?" What the f.
Overall, I had fun here. Make sure to car party, or just bring the liquor in in your bloodstream since you can't bring it in your purse.
DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE!!! This place is expensive and cheap Asian service that will charge you nickel and dime for everything. I would never go back. After bring a birthday party of 17 people there service was terrible.. Read the other reviews and you will a lot of people are saying the same thing. Should have yelped tem before I came
Review Source:Worst karaoke I've ever been to in my life. I've been to better in the slums of Korea. Where to start.. So the price for 1 hour is $30+, that's fine. But wait, each person has to buy a cup of tea for $5 a pop. Wait what? We just bought boba from downstairs.. Oh well fine. So all 5 of us ended up ordering tea. We pressed the service button to ask how to use the machine and the guy never came back. We stepped outside and he wasn't even at the front desk. How do these people run business? Went back in the room and sang random songs. You have got to be on something to want to come back here. I'd rather go anywhere else but here. WORST experience ever. At least know how to treat a customer. I strongly strongly believe if you're around this area and want to sing, there are much better places 2 miles down the street. Check those out before considering this place. Never again will I nor my friends come back to this place.
Review Source:Will definitely come back if I ever go karaoke again! Very spacious rooms and a great selection of music. Many of the videos are also official music videos, not the basic lyrics on screen :)
Friends and I came on a Saturday night - past Happy Hour and without a reservation :( Since we had a pretty large group (11 people) all the regular rooms were already booked. We opted for the VIP room during non-happy hour which was $88 an hour. Each person also had to order a drink (teas, milk teas, etc. $3-$4 This was mandatory). The VIP room was very spacious, had a pulldown projector screen (?), a pool table, and a balcony.
Overall, I think my friends and I really enjoyed this place. It would be a way better value though, if we went during Happy Hour because the rates are cheaper and it comes with a complimentary drink.
Came here on 2-24-13 with a group of 14 people for happy hour, we rented out the VIP room which has a large projection screen, pool table, balcony and includes the 1 complimentary drink. Cost per person with tax & gratuity came out to $23 per person for 6 hours! WORTH EVERY CENT!
The VIP room was perfect for us, very spacious and we had a lot of fun singing and shooting pool. Didn't really use the balcony as it overlooks the freeway, not exactly a view.
Excellent song selection, even had karaoke (with proper videos) for current top 40 hits.
Now for the reasons why it didn't get the full 5 stars.......
1. No books listing all the songs, this is pretty unusual as most karaoke places use them. The computer was a little hard to figure out but once you did it was relatively easy but just takes a long time to scroll and search for songs.
2. Only 2 microphones, there should an option to have more depending on group size.
3. Pool cues could do with being replaced and the material on the table is a little torn but still fully functioning.
4. Drinks are a little overpriced, some even more expensive than any boba joint.
Despite all, we had a great afternoon of singing and much fun. Reviews about bad service was non-existent, they assisted us efficiently when we needed help.
WILL DEFINATELY BE BACK!
It's hard for me to rate this place. Music Box has a decent selection of songs in multiple languages, but if you're here for English songs, it isn't the most up to date. Also, many of the newer songs are also not synched properly (lyrics and song are off).
Also I don't understand why these places only let you use the "terminal" to add songs. What happened to the giant books to search for songs? Ever think of having both? It'd be a lot easier to throw songs in.
Overall, I've been here for both HH and off times.
HH is great when you only have a few people (2-4) because anymore it just really becomes normal price for a room.
However, for the off times, remember that not only are you paying for the room per hour, they add a 15% tip (what kind of service do they even provide?) and require each person in the room to buy a drink which is over priced. Â (around $4 each)
And the last big minus is that they don't even sell alcohol. Now this wouldn't be too big of a deal if they allowed you to bring it in. But with the "security guard" at the entrance that will not let you bring in any food or beverages, it's hard to sneak it in as well. Â (Of course to get around this, you gotta become friends with the workers somehow.)
This is my go to karaoke place when I come home. They have a great selection of a large variety of music. The rooms are clean and I've never run into any major issues. The price ia a bit expensive but if you go during happy hour the price isn't all that bad. Service has been fairly average. They're friendly enough. My main issue with this place is the price and the difficulty in splitting a bill.
Review Source:we went there for happy hour, so all you can sing from 2-8pm for $14/person and it includes one free drink. Â Great value, and they have really great selection of songs, really new ones too, both Chinese and English. Â Their system, however, seems a bit outdated and is still doing song selection through a remote (instead of touch screen), which made it difficult sometimes to browse through pages and pages of songs. Â We've always had trouble with the service - the staff always seemed to have an attitude and was even rude at times.
Review Source:if a place is pretty okay i'll give it 3 stars. so let's start at that
+1 for the drinks
-1 cause they don't have a book of all their songs, it's all digital so it takes a while to look through
+1 cause they have pinyin (whoa i can learn mandarin here!)
-1 cause you have to keep pressing a button to keep the vocals on every time you change a song
+1 for the interior/cleanliness
-1 for the mistakes in the lyrics
+5 cause i love karaoke! and its close to my house!
-5 stars because they don't have journey-don't stop believing!!
Pros:
-Located in relatively new plaza with ample above-ground/underground parking
-Clean/Modern Decor
-New songs with actual music videos (I prefer the random music videos to be honest -- gives you more of a karaoke feel instead of a singing to youtube vids with subtitles kind of vibe)
Cons:
-If you go karaoke at non-happy hour prices, it's overpriced.
-Minimum order of 1 drink per person (Adds up)
-Non-intuitive song-selection (no books--only this wall-mounted screen with remote) can leave you wasting precious singing time while you try to learn the system
-Not very sound proof
Conclusion:
There are better, cheaper places to karaoke in Rowland Heights.
Sunday around 8pm. I just missed the AYCSing option. $28 for a small room, with one drink minimum per person. They have a laminated sheet of paper with directions on how to use their machine. They have real music videos on some of the more recent songs. Speaking of recent songs, their selection of new songs are pretty good, but I think I'm bias because I love Plush Karaoke in Irvine. The employees speak decent English, and using the remote for the machine can be confusing and takes some getting used to. They have ample space and number of rooms, so kudos to them.
For four people at the rate of $28/hour and 4 drink purchases (we stayed for about 2 to 2.5 hours) came out to $120ish. Plush has AYCSing all day on Sundays for a better rate but doesn't include free drinks. JUST SAYIN!
ALL YOU CAN SING FROM 2-8PM ON SUNDAY W/ ONE FREE DRINK FOR $17/PERSON !!
I usually go to Elvis in Fountain Valley, but came here a couple of weeks ago for a friend's bday. They have American, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Vietnamese and more songs. Staff are nice and the rooms are big and clean. Our room was big enough not only for singing but also for dancing :) Free drinks are limited to flavored Chinese teas but they have many flavors to choose from.
Only the downside is that their machine is quite hard to operate...takes longer to look up and enter songs. Nonetheless, this is my new place to be for Karaoke !!
They have new American songs! WOO
Korean songs, Chinese songs, all of them.
Their rooms are nice, Â 2-8pm is happy hour and drinks are free.
Not a good place to eat, but they have snacks.
If it's your birthday, they let you bring your own cake and celebrate. You should also call ahead to reserve a room on the weekends or at night.
Had an amazing time with my girlfriends during happy hour on a Saturday. I didn't think we would sing for that long, but we ended up staying for all of happy hour, 2pm-8pm. + a drink. There were a huge selection of songs, enough songs that I can not complain. A lot of them updated, mainstream songs that currently play on the radio. Mind you, I only looked through the Western (English songs) selection, and not the Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean songs they had as well. The room was very comfortable, clean, a nice squishy couch to sit on. The walls are soundproof enough, in my opinion, that when I went out to the hallway, I could not hear too clearly what what going on inside the rooms.
The only cons about this place... the system was NOT touchscreen, and it took us a good few minutes to realize it wasn't broken. The remote control was hard to use, and very annoying when we wanted an artist that started with an "M." A lot of button clicking that annoyed me when I wanted a song to sing - fast. They charged us a 15% tip, which sucked because we didn't ask for their service more than once. That was only to get drinks, which took a while to get. They were a little understaffed.
Other than that, I would highly recommend checking out their rates for happy hour. Affordable day out with all of your friends! Bring a jacket/cardigan (the A/C was blasting the entire time), warm up them vocal cords, and go sing your heart out!
Can't beat their happy hour between 2pm to 8pm.17 dollars for 6 hours of singing including a drink?Where else can you get that deal?Service is quite slow since the are understaffed.Great English/Chinese/Cantonese song selection, but I was a bit surprised they don't have some of the most popular Japanese songs of all time.Even for their K-pop selection it is lacking despite having some of the more popular K-pop group songs.
Rooms are nice and comfy and their karaoke technology is quite up to date.
Been to this place with group of friends many times
We only come during the happy hours. It is cheaper and you get a free drink.
It has pretty good songs to choose from and lots of song selections. Mainly lots of Asian songs. The rooms are quite comfortable and the inside is pretty nice.
Bad thing is that the door and window is big so people passing by can see what you're doing. The service is slow to respond mainly because there is only like 3-4 people working at one time in the whole store = =.
To select songs you have to use a remote and not touch screen, our dumbass was touching the screen for 5mins straight and until the worker taught us to use the remote, but its all good we know how to use it now.
Went here on Friday 11pm. It was $28/hr for 3 ppl. They have too many shady things going in here, you have to buy a $3.50 minimum drink, there's like random service charges they tack onto the bill for doing pretty much nothing, AND KTV places are supposed to give you a courtesy warning of when your time is almost up (like about 10 min before the hour is up) to see if you would like to continue or stop, NOT assume you want to continue even after you said you only want to do an hour. Â Drinks are nasty, it was like drinking pure sweetener syrup. They had more fake music (not original song music) than other KTV places. They do have more language choices. Their ktv system is ok...all controlled through 1 remote and a tiny screen, it takes a while to find who you're looking for. Â No extra disco or colored lights in the room. The windows looking into the rooms aren't darkened or anything so ppl can look in and stare. Their ventilation system apparently is linked to their kitchen so you get all the smells as you try to sing.
I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you're in the area and HAVE to satisfy that itch in your mouth to sing. Too shady, stinky, and expensive if not during happy hour.
The only reason this place gets 2 stars is due to their wide selection of english songs. Otherwise, I would probably rate this place 1 star.
The beginning started off fine. They told us $20 per hour of karaoke and got us a room right away.
Other than that, the rest of the experience was crappy.
The bathroom was really messy and they ran out of paper towels half way through the night and their trash can was overflowing with rubbish. They also didn't serve alcohol so that was kind of a bummer. We went with 3 ppl (i know... don't judge me) but they still added an automatic 15% gratuity fee, charged us $28 per hour instead of the $20 they said initially, and tried to sneak in an extra hour... talk about bad service.
I think the only reason why I would come back here is for their happy hour deal. But I'm sure they'll charge us $24 instead of $14 and try to include an extra 2 hours at their normal rate.
OMG what a bad service!!! Â I would never go back to this place again!! Â went there tonight to chill with my friends since we haven't seen each other in such a long time, and what's with the dude that worked there tonight? Did he break up with his gf or did he just have no manner at all.
Anyway, their service FAILED big time!!! Â
Oh, and what's with the 15% tips?? Â Did i get any service tonight? Â HELL NO!! so why the hell should we pay for that kind of services?? I will definitely check with my lawyer to see if this is legit!!
The only reason why I even bother to rate this place with one star, that's because I think they deserve some credits on making the interior looks nice.
overall, I think they should work on their services
Oh, I went there on 9.27.2011, It was a Tuesday
I was there around 10pm on Tuesday night 9.27.2011. When we first walked in, the guy that worked there did not seem too happy that he's got a customer. I have no idea what's up with the shit face, did we do something wrong??
So after we got into the room, we waited forever for him to order our drinks, apparently he was too busy looking at his computer( prob facebooking). We had to walk out to order the drinks ourselves, i mean, hello?? Â if you want to include the 15% tip on the bill (which i think it's ridiculous) at least show some effort!!
Anyway, tonight was my first time there, and i'm sure that it'll be the last time i go. I think the guy who worked there tonight should go learn some customer service first before he started this job, or maybe this is just how Music Box's management is like.
Bad service!! prob will never go back to this place again. Cash box has better customer service!!!!
Music Box...not to be confused with Music Box in Hollywood.
First timer at this karaoke. Walking in, I can smell the paint on the wall and knew it's fairly new. Very spacious and has multiple rooms. I came for a friend's bday so they reserved the large room with a pool table and a large patio area. I saw that they had grill, so I guess it's extra if you want to BBQ. They have a pretty large selection of music, up-to-date as well.
Hush Hush...you can BYOB, but be discreet. Two bottles at a time and they'll pour it in a pitcher. I believe you can order food there. Not too shabby. Had a good time with old friends.
Sing your heart out.
I love it! Â We went for happy hour and had a great time for just $18 each including tax and tip. Â We sang a mix of Mandarin, English, Spanish and Japanese songs and I was really impressed by the song selection. One thing to note is that most of the English and Spanish songs did not have the original music videos so it was a little bit less exciting.
Music Box even has a VIP room with a pool table for larger groups. Too bad we were a few people short for the required 10 for that room. Â I think Music Box may be the closest in quality to a KTV that you can find in Asia. Â The happy hour price also includes one drink per person. Â Unfortunately, the drinks kind of sucked. Â But then again, for that price, I really can't be too picky.
Really? Minimum order of one drink per person? As if they didn't charge premium rates for the rooms already, which are not good enough to reflect their exorbitant fees.
Not even worth leaving a full review. Just know that they charge for everything and barge in every five to ten minutes for even the most tedious of reasons. They're subpar on courtesy as well, and lastly when we were figuring out the bill they would walk in every two minutes trying to pick it up. They didn't understand "can you wait a little longer?"
This place is kind of bizarre... My friend ordered a curry chicken plate that was $6... Turned out the so called curry chicken was microwaved from those freezer box that looked pitifully disgusting when it was delivered to our room. We felt deceived so we asked the manager to give us a discount or at least tell its customers next time that their food were all from the freezer. She said, "sorry, but we are not supposed to disclose that to our customers". WHAT?? So it was their intention to deceive? After some discussion they agreed to just charge us $3 for the the then glue like curry chicken plate. Out of frustration my friend went out to buy some decent food. When she walked in her food was taken away because customers are not allowed to bring in any outside food... @_@...
Other than this incident, I must say this place is incredibly new and the decor is decent. So they get 2 stars :).
Typical Cashbox, Karaoke bar. Â Reason my experience was bad was because of the staff. Â Extremely rude and condescending.
We asked for the check and our party was 7 people. Â As we asked for the check, a friend of ours walked in to meet up with us and go to dinner. Â The guy came back with the check and it was for 8 people so we kindly pointed out the error and then the staff member started to accuse us of trying to scam him.
What blew my mind is that as I tried to explain, he cut me off and when I asked him to let me finish, he cut me off again and said "No, you listen to me". Â I thought he was just a boss who is tired of running this business but it turned out he was just a lowly employee. So when I asked for the manager, this guy called Jackie came out and was very polite and accommodating. Â I warned him of his spoiled-brat of an employee and left the place. Â I wouldn't go back just because of the possibility of getting ticked off by their staff.
Best karaoke place I've been to!
But, I was here for a friend's birthday and she rented out the super sweet VIP room, so maybe my experience isn't typical. Anyways, huge room with black leather couches, dark wood, dark walls, and a huge tv playing actual music videos instead of the random shots of asian scenery. Also, for those not musically inclined, there's a pool table in the back of the room with plenty of space to play. Outside on the spacious balcony, it's pretty bare, but at least they have a small table to put all your "drinks" on. Very easy going when it comes to "drinks" haha.
There were about 30 people there for my friend's birthday, but this place could easily fit 50+ people. If I had known about this place prior to turning 21, I'd come here a lot.
I didn't realize their speaker and mic are that good until to visit today with a group of 6.
Very clean, good A/C temperature, not too hot or cold. And the best part is they would allow you to bring outside food to eat there. That's awesome!!
About the price..really.. you should go there during their Happy Hour. $15-18 per person for 6 hrs fun and with great quality product and service......where you could get this..
Only one thing...ladies room is always out of paper..@_@
This review is serious. I love this place. I consider this Karaoke house is the best in LA and OC area. I come here at least once a month.
I've been several times to Plush at Irvine, Cash box not far from Music Box.
Music Box got the best equipment, best MV (almost all original) and the best rooms.
Very comfortable staying in.
The price worths it.
I went a new one to have a try recently but so upset. Then I suddenly noticed that I should rate Music Box.
Everybody deserves a better surrounding and better entertainment.
I came to Karaoke @ Music Box last year with my friends from Japanese Club.
The environment was neat, slick, and rather futuristic. We went for Happy Hour which meant that the price was lower and since we had a lot of people in there, it was loads of fun.
Like some of the other reviewers, I agree that it was a bit annoying trying to navigate without a song book. There were some singers who they only had a few older songs available and none of the newer hits. Some of the American artists had these ridiculous graphics in the background as you sang whereas others used the music video or a blue screen. And all of the Asian artists used the music videos as background eye candy.
My friends and I out of spontaneity decided to try this joint out. I don't go karaoke much but I have been to a few good places in my days so it was kinda exciting to try a new place out and see what they had to offer.
Basically, it was $28 an hour for 4 people with a 1 drink minimum. Not the cheapest place I've been to but we went with it anyways.
So you get this private room of course and it was pretty spacious and pretty clean. HUGE tv! Then, we look for the book of songs....and there is NO book of songs.
You literally search for the songs, artists, etc on their non touch screen tv. Sounds cool right? But no, it really isn't.
Think about all the time your wasting scrolling and scrolling to get to the letter M for Madonna. Or how you can't think of any songs you really want so you just want to scroll around to see if anything sounds good to you. Seriously, I think they do this to waste your freak'n time and earn more money by the hour. I wanted that dang book. It's so much faster!!
I would venture nearby to http://www.yelp.com/biz/…
They are $25 an hour for 5 people with 1 drink minimum and they have that dang music book I want.
Oh not to mention, Music Box did not have the best selection of songs. Some of the most popular songs that have been out for at least a year were still not even listed. I was kinda sad and very surprised.
So overall, I was not very impressed. This place is a little bit more expensive, less song choices, and stupid tv screen takes forever to find your perfect song. BOO!
Karaoke Music Box wowed me as I stepped through the doors, with it's polished night club aura and nicely ordorned rooms, but left me with an infuriating experience (namely, its piss poor service and unintuitive karaoke machines) and an empty wallet.
Pros:
- Good interior, high class looks
Cons:
- You end up paying for the high class looks at the end
    a) $38 per hour, charged by the minute
    b) 1 drink minimum per person (around $4)
    c) gratuity is tacked on to the bill (15% for group of 6)
- The piss poor service is only there to take your money.
The mandatory drinks took 15 min to be served. Here's a conversation I had, verbatum:
Waiter: What would you like to drink?
Me: Can I order my drink later?
Waiter: Yes, but I will keep coming back until you order a drink. (1 drink min per person)
- Karaoke machines are REALLY hard to use. There are no physical menus, everything is accessed by the remote. The waiter told us the fastest way to browse songs was to type the name of the song using the remote, which had a keypad like a cell phone. You could ONLY search the first five letters of a song and not any artist names. Computer science majors would have difficulty deciphering how to find Journey's Don't Stop Believing (took me 1 minute to scroll down to the J's on the menu).
TL:DR
A frustrating karaoke machine makes for a tedious karaoke experience. Horrible service and hidden costs makes me feel like I've been scammed of $80.
This place sucks. If I could give it a 0 I would. We only came here because the other place we were trying to go too was packed and had a long wait and it was getting late.
The music selection here is very limited. How can you not have any Journey songs. Really? Maybe cause it's an Asian place but all the other places I've gone too has had them.
They also make you purchase a drink, per person. That's ridiculous. I'm not at a comedy club. Don't try to entice me with a virgin mojoito, I don't like anything virgin.
Needless to say. I probably won't be coming back here. The guards outside were cool though.
I've came with my cousin cause both her and I love to sing. We came for happy hour. So i thought the room that they were going to give us was going to be really small or something since it was only the two of us. It turned out the room was huge and probably could have fit like 10 people in there. The place is really nice, just as nice as the ones down in Ktown but a lot closer of course. They have a real good selection of music including the english and korean. The snacks and drinks are good although i think they can get rid of the dumplings and put in popcorn chicken or something. The place was pretty busy for a monday afternoon but I think it's because it was memorial weekend. There is also a VIP room with a pool table inside and it seem pretty nice. Â This place is pretty good and definitely would come back again.
The only down fall is that they don't have alcoholic beverages.
