Too much sauce in the stir-fry and the sauce had odd flavor. Lots of fresh vegetables, but I couldn't taste them
In fairness, the two people with me were satisfied with their meals.
Update: This restaurant is gone and Shiki Four Seasons has moved in from its old location on Riverside.
We went to My Plate a little over a week ago, before a show at the Craterian. Â My daughter, her friend, my husband and myself. Â We had a reservation, which was good, because it was a Friday night and they were quite busy. Â We ordered appetizers, shrimp dim sum and something else (I cannot remember now, but it was good). Â Still no spinach and basil potstickers available--maybe someday we we will get to try them. Â
For dinner, the girls ordered a C&S roll and green tea tofu, both of which arrived in short order. Â Hubby and I ordered specials, a mussel dish and a shrimp tropical salad. Â A bit after we ordered, the waiter came out with the girl's dinners and said the specials had not gone through because of a computer glitch, so they would be awhile. Â We told the girls to go ahead and eat, which was a good thing. Â A minute later, the waiter brought us a complimentary appetizer, something with cream cheese & crab (none of us cared for it, unfortunately). Â The girls began eating, and about halfway through their dinners, the waiter came back and apologized again, saying it was going to be awhile longer. Â Hubby looked at his watch and informed him that we had a show to go to at 7:00 p.m., and he said he would inform the kitchen. Â Again we waited, and when the host came by, hubby flagged him down and told him if we didn't get our food in the next 5 minutes, we would have to cancel the order and leave. Â He apologized and said they would put it in a to go box for us, but we told him we didn't have a way to store it while we were at the show. Â So off he went to cancel the order. Â In the meantime, the waiter showed up with a spider roll and our bill and apologized profusely again.
Looking at the bill, we were only charged for the girl's dinners, none of the appetizers or specials, and even the drinks. Â The host (I believe he may be an owner, not sure) came by again as we were getting ready to leave and apolized again, and he gave us a $20 gift card, saying he hoped we would give them another chance.
We had another show the following week, so daughter, hubby & I decided to give it another try and use our $20 gift card. Â We made reservations with extra time, just in case. Â When we arrived, they obviously remembered us, because the first thing the waiter said was, "I will make sure everything comes out right away". Â He was true to his word, and we were out of there in 45 minutes, with a lot of extra time before our show.
We ordered a dragon eye appetizer, which came quickly and was devoured--delicious and beautiful to look at, as is all their food. Â As we finished, the waiter came back with my daughter's sushi roll and a mussel dish, saying, "We owed you this special from last week, since you never got it." Â I was amazed, not only that they remembered what we had ordered, but that they specially prepared it, as it wasn't a regular menu item. Â Not only that, but it was amazingly delicious, with layers of flavor in the sauce and a perfectly cooked dish of probably 20 or so mussels. Â I was really wanting to put the sauce over some rice and eat it, but I still had my dinner order from tonight coming.
A few minutes later, the host came over with a tropical shrimp salad, saying "we owe you this special from last week, and thank you for giving us another chance." Â Another item that is not normally on the menu, but they remembered and prepared it special for us. Â Talk about caring about your customers! Â It, too, was delicious.
We hadn't even finished those dinners when they came with our order from that evening, garlic green beans for me and teriyaki green tea chicken for my husband. Â One bit of the green beans, and I knew I was going away overly stuffed, because they were so delicious. Â Hubby also tried them and declared he would order them next time. Â He liked them so much, he took some of the sauce for his rice. Â The green tea chicken was also declared delicious.
All of the dishes here are not only beautiful but perfectly prepared, with layers of delicate flavor. Â This is not your average Asian restaurant--they take it to an art form. Â We feel the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. Â The service is excellent--the waiter was very attentive without being cloying.
When the bill arrived, the specials they made for us were comped. Â We felt funny about using the gift certificate after they went out of their way like that, so we just paid the rest of the bill. Â When we were leaving, they thanked us again for giving them another chance, and we thanked them for the specials and said we'd be back again. Â We will be back--the food is too good not to, and they obviously care about their customers.
