I was told this was the best seafood in the area and I have to agree (without trying anywhere else). The Seafood Platter was top notch (King Crab, Cod, and Seared Scallops with veggies). The crab was delicious and a generous portion, the cod was fantastic with chipotle tartar sauce, and the scallops were a nice addition.
Do not be fooled by the outside of this place. The restaurant is great.
Mykel's would definitely be no more than a 3 if it were in Anchorage, but since we're talking about the peninsula here, this is better quality than most places down there. It was kind of cold inside, and the chairs were quite uncomfortable, so sit in a booth instead. No dress code, of course, even though it's a fancier place. I went in with two friends after a long bike ride, so we strolled in sweaty and Lycra-clad. Lots of baseball caps and motorcycle leather here.
Overall, it was pretty good. The spinach dip was amazing, and the warm bread they bring out was soft and delicious. They have a good wine selection, and a few beers on tap. The waitress was very nice and helpful. The portions were not as much as I'd expect for the prices. The $10 spinach salad was not at all an entree-size (and for that price, I'd expect more than seven candied pecans and a sprinkling of cheese!) The vegetable sides looked like they were way too over-steamed, but my dining companions really enjoyed their fish.
This was my first time here, and I'll probably come back again. Since Soldotna is not the dining capital of the world, it's nice that there are some decent places to eat. There'll be something for everyone here, I think. And it's probably the only place in town that uses linen napkins..
Nice cozy little spot that's hidden away. Went on a wine Wednesday for a little date night with the ball and chain. Nice and quite romantic type place with wonderful service. Waitress very knowledgeable on recommendations for beers and the food was very tasty. Had the pound of crab which came with a fancy salad and anther side. Bit higher than market price for the crab but well worth it as it was delicious in flavor and I still had more food on my plate. Wife got a steak that she enjoyed but not to my level of enjoyment since she did notice a bit amount of fat on her steak, which happens every once and a while. After the meal we washed it down with an amazing brownie dessert that topped everything off just right, overall I left full and satisfied and will be back, worth the stop!
Review Source:Came to Soldotna to visit girlfriends family and they wanted to treat me to a nice dinner. Â Ordered the Calimari as an appetizer and it was delicious, cooked to perfection. Â we then ordered our entrees which consisted of prime rib, pepper steak scallops, and rack of lamb. Â After waiting 45+ min and 2 dirty martinis later, the entrees finaly arrived. Â The only item that was hot was on any of the dishes was the rack of lamb, they obviously cooked the lamb last and served everything else after the lamb was ready. Â We asked for the other 3 entrees to be fixed and when the dishes returned they were the same plates served previouslyand were still sub par to say the least. Â We spoke with the manager and they only charged us for the lamb, appetizer and drinks. Â The lamb was hot, tender, juicy and cooked perfectly, Â All three of the other plates however suffered tremendously. Â Happy that we weren't charged for the scallops, chilli steak, and prime rib, but extremely dissapointed overall.
Review Source:After a 14 hour day fishing, we were hungry and tired. Read a bunch of reviews here and this place looked like the best bet. Went in in full fishing gear. Fit in ok. Food did not disappoint. All four in the party agreed that everything we ate exceeded our expectations.
Osso bucco was a 5. Seared halibut a 5. King crab was good, but it was just king crab. Crab seemed expensive but we bought it for the local experience. The ahi tuna was out of place but we tried it anyway. Great salad with the tuna, but the tuna itself was a little old and a little overcooked. But then what did we expect ordering raw tuna in alaska?!
Surprisingly good wine list and good by-the-glass selection.
No desserts. Service was very good and friendly.
Been going to the peninsula several times a year for 5 years but didn't go into Mykel's until 6 months ago. Â I feel like i had been missing out. Â Best food and wine in the area. Â Was recommended it by a friend. Â Is not much to look at on the outside and is why I hadn't gone it previously bot am glad I did as this is my new favorite place. I now eat there exclusively when I'm in town.
Review Source:I love Mykels. Their service is great, especially in the bar. Great food, fantastic appetizers (try the calamari or the steamers). Good price, especially on local's night (Thursdays after 4 and Sundays all day) after January 1st.
There is great local live music on Friday and Saturdays. Wine Wednesdays are amazing - you get a great deal on a wine flight with appetizers that match the wines.
Cozy, romantic, best restaurant in Soldotna if you ask me.
I was given the pleasure of dining here twice and I must say they were both miserable dining experiences.  The menu was filled with dishes that  for the most part were "interesting".  The first night I dined here I ordered a chicken marsala with a side of fettuccine.  The dish came with a soup which I chose to be clam chowder.  The soup was flavorless though it did have quite a bit of clams which makes me wonder how they could have gotten this soup wrong.  When I was served the main dish, they had replaced the fettuccine with penne without my knowledge.  Now pasta will taste the same regardless of the shape but I would have liked to have known that they ran out of fettuccine and given me other options such as linguini which they apparently also can substitute with.  The dish for the most part was mediocre.  The pasta was over cooked and you could barely taste the marsala.  The second night I dined here I decided to give their pastas one more try assuming the chef had the night off the previous time I had dined there.  I had chosen a lemon flavored chicken sauce served over linguini with a side of cheddar broccoli soup.  The soup was bland with chunks of what must have been cauliflower let alone broccoli.  The pasta was a disaster.  It was a creamy sauce with barely any lemon served over penne once again.  I thought to myself, does this place only serve penne?  The price for both dinner items was 30 dollars !! Outrageous prices for such disappointing and flavorless food.  I would recommend avoiding this establishment though Soldonta doesn't seem to have many places to go to eat.  I do give Mykel credit for not following the usual American, Italian, Mexican, food pattern like the other Alaskan restaurants seems to take and can't get right.
