Great place in beautiful Ocean Grove.  Nice decor that matches the Main St. area perfectly, Nagle's is a fun throwback restaurant with a large and varied menu & relaxed atmosphere.  Food and service are great but make sure to stay for the ice cream.  Perfect end to a beach day.

We wandered in at random in the middle of a cold, cloudy April afternoon, and I'm so glad we did. My cream of broccoli soup (with cheddar and bacon, of course) was absolutely delicious, and my scrambled eggs and bacon were done just the way I asked for them to be done. The ambiance is fantastic, and the waitress was very friendly.

I didn't have ice cream, and after reading all the other reviews, I regret that. We will be back.

Great old fashioned ice cream parlor. Quiet night tonight but you usually have a long wait but the wait is worth it. Also a great spot for a summer BLT with iced tea!

What a great place to have lunch!  I love the old school ambiance that they preserved with the quaint pharmacy look.
All the servers are very upbeat and friendly.  The food tasted great, came quickly, and was reasonably priced.
I also highly recommend the ice cream,  which you can get from an outside window.  It is definitely worth the wait!   I have been here several times and definitely plan on coming back.

I give Nagles 4 stars for food that is consistently good.( more often than not, they get it right). Albeit,no frills and basic but still good. Great burgers, great chicken Caesar salads, great soups, great steak, pepper & onions sandwich on a hero, huge portion of chicken fingers, great ice cream, comfortable very casual surroundings. My 6 yo daughter likes to order a soup and the "side" of grilled salmon for $4....Great for families with kids or anyone needing a casual meal after a day at the beach.
    Nice, helpful,staff.

Our favorite place to end a day on the beach. Friendly staff and big and tasty sandwiches. Awesome ice cream.

Nagle's was a pleasant find in the quaint, little shore-town of Ocean Grove. After eating some lunch and touring some of the unfortunate coastal devastation from Hurricane Sandy, I figured (as usual) some ice cream was in order. Chocolate peanut butter cup, to be exact. Oh, and with some coffee sauce poured on top. Heck yeah!

I only ordered a one-scoop sundae, but it was certainly enough with big chunks of peanut butter hidden in the rich, chocolate ice cream. The sauce added a whole other dimension to form a tasty trinity of flavor.

I'm not sure what the regular food menu is like, but if Nagle's is this busy in the winter, it's probably a nightmare in the summer. But, I'd still wait in line for that again.

Nice place and a huge menu however everything I got was slightly off. The French Onion soup was pure concentrated beef broth. Overly salty and light on onions. The burger was completely tastless. Simple seasoning would go a long way in this place. I didn't expect much when I entered so as long as you consider the fact that its just an unskilled grill cook working there, then you'll be fine. It's like going to the snack bar at a community pool. If you're hungry enough and there's no other options, you'll eat it. I did have the ice cream and it was good and fairly priced. Service was attentive and the place was clean.

I go here at least Twice a week. It rules. Hot open turkey with extra gravy and a side of cranberry sauce is my go to meal. The servers are hard working good people. If you like a small bathroom you will love the ones here, they are totally cool. This is an old fashioned place. Go enjoy it. It's unlike anywhere else.

Came here with some friends after dinner for some ice cream.  The window on the side of the building is convenient but beware of the grate in the sidewalk.  Many people have dropped change down there, along with some pens, and who knows what else.  So be careful where you step.  There's a nice selection of ice creams, I'm always a sucker for rum raisin since I was young.  Their rum raisin was delicious and enjoyable!  :)

I lived in Ocean Grove for eight years, and I always got great food and service from Nagle's since they re-opened in 2000. I come back to Jersey twice a year, and I ALWAYS make time for Nagle's, no matter how short my visit is.

Great sandwiches and burgers, and of course the ice cream is well worth however long you have to wait in the summer.

The staff is great, especially when you express sympathy for them having to deal with impossibly unruly Bennies.

If you see shrimp caesar salad as a special, get it: it's amazing. Their "cream of" soups are quite tasty. And to drink, you're a fool if you get anything other than a vanilla Coke: nobody does it better!

Nagle's Apothecary - Cool corner drug store located right in the middle of    the shops. Counter, tables and outside seating is available. Ordered the Egg Salad Sandwich on Rye and a Chocolate Milkshake. The Egg Salad looked great but was a bit bland and had a sour taste usually associated with past due celery. The Milkshake was excellent thick and creamy and a enough for two. The service was fine and the place was clean.

I would go back, but would order something different.

    Enjoy Foodies!

I've never had a bad meal at Nagle's.  Is it the best food?  No but I would put Nagle's in the consistently good category.  This may not sound like a resounding endorsement but there's something to be said about providing consistently good food, as opposed to a hit or miss experience.  I'll always take consistent, wouldn't you?  There's a reason why Nagle's is always crowded.

The ice-cream, while it is not homemade, is still very good, especially after a long day at the beach.  I prefer Nagles over Day's because you don't get the same attitude as the people @ Day's.  Also, the kids behind the counter work their butts off.  While I wouldn't say they're overly friendly, they aren't snobby.  If you're a peanut butter fan, get the Vanilla Peanut Butter.  it was delicious.  Enjoy.

Ended up eating twice here in one day while in town on business.  A first glance, I was quite taken with the place.  The decor is amazing, simulating (or was it once really this place) an old apothecary (pharmacy) with a soda fountain.  Lots of cool photos and news clippings, along with display cases of old pharmaceutical bottles, et al...

Had a sandwich to go for lunch, and a burger for dinner.  That sandwich was good+, the burger was lack luster - though they were INCREDIBLY crowded at the time, which also explains why the service was sporadic and not so friendly.

Seems there are a ton of choices in Ocean Grove, and this is not a bad one.  Just not they culinary experience I had hoped for given the otherwise cool ambiance of the place.

Stopped off last night for some ice cream.  Such a treat to be able to order some and sit outside and take in the beautiful Ocean Grove.  The Ice Cream is top notch and the service is quick.  There was a substantial line, but it goes fast so don't be discouraged if there are a lot of people waiting.

This is the little cafe that time forgot. The food is always great.  Matter of fact I just sent my husband there to get me a hot open faced turkey sandwich. Waiters are friendly. It is what it is. If your in a rush or want a gourmet lunch this isnt the place for you.
Quality feel good food at a great price.

Probably my favorite spot to get breakfast.  Atmosphere is nice and cozy.  If there' s a wait they'll take your number down and give you a ring when your tables ready so you can go walk around.  Banging ice cream during the summer too.

Thank you for preserving this nice little soda fountain right out of the WWII era for me to enjoy.  Thank you for making my grilled cheese nice and big with lots of chips and not charging me an arm and a leg for it like some "gourmet grilled cheese" trendy restaurants do.  Thank you for knowing what an egg cream is and how to make it.  Thank you for using real vanilla syrup and fountain Coke in your vanilla Coke, so it tastes like it's supposed to taste.  Thank you especially to the poor tired-looking twentyish guy with the longish black hair who was working the counter and waiting the tables and seemingly everything else except cooking the food (there was another hardworking dude doing that) last Friday afternoon, while some other dude took hours doing something at the register ignoring customers who sat at the counter waiting to order (no love for him, I was hungry).  Seriously, Twentyish Guy with Longish Black Hair deserves a raise as, while he was dealing with the orders for me and the lady next to me, he was also ordered around by at least one, maybe two, managers like he was Cinderfella.  Why don't you guys leave the kid alone and do some of the table-running yourselves?

Good food, cute place although very very crowded, the tables were full of what seemed to be loud mouthed SUV-drivin'  families and the restaurant seemed shorthanded in general, so I sat at the counter.  I didn't get a chance to try the ice cream due to being in a hurry, but I'll be back some other time for that.

This is a few steps up from your typical diner food. I will have to say that the Corned Beef Hash, the Chicken Philly, and the Chocolate Chip Pancakes are pretty good. They have an awesome Root beer Float as well. The service and the feel of the the dining area is always superb. It's right in the middle of Ocean Grove with all the little boutique shops. It's a great Sunday afternoon spot and very relaxing. The only downsides are that there is usually a 30 minute wait and your clothes WILL SMELL like cooked food when you leave.

We stayed in Ocean Grove for a week and stopped at Nagle's at least daily! The ice cream is worth the wait.....mint chip and cherry vanilla were AMAZING, as well as the banana split! Chef Salad lots of meat and was more than enough for two. We also tried the chicken salad and turkey sandwiches very good! Portions are large.....felt like I was in Texas! Service was okay, but it is mostly high school and college students working so I will cut them some slack...they were all trying and very friendly!

Dude this place rocks, because there is a big menu and the food tastes delicious! Big portions. Service was kind of slow. Very interesting historic pieces throughout the inside of the restaurant, old typewriters and such. And the ice cream is great, I tried the coffee mud slide - mm mm. What a great place to grab a bite to eat during a day trip or night trip to the beach. I would definitely eat here again.

It is the nightlife scene of Ocean Grove.  The chocolate peanut butter is my favorite. The chocolate is creamy, with thin luscious slabs of firm peanut butter.

The lines can be long, but it hits the spot!

What a treasure!  I'll definitely be back.  You can't find an atmosphere like this anywhere else.  I went for breakfast and the food was fine.  Take it for what it is, a very unique setting in a wonderful seaside town to have a basic meal.  Don't get too hung up on the service or whether it's cutting edge cuisine.  Just enjoy yourself.  There's no other place like it that I've ever been to.  If you're anywhere within a few hours drive, it's worth the trip just to visit Nagle's.

Big downgrade for service taking too long and food being substandard. I don't mind waiting for food if it's good, but lately the food here has gotten pretty crummy. They emphasize quantity over quality. My omelet and potatoes were COVERED in pepper. I don't like waiting half an hour for crappy food.

Ice cream is still great, but I'm on the lookout for a better brunch/lunch place now.

I've been coming here for ages with my family, but only to get ice cream. In fact, I didn't even realize until recently that they served food as well. As an ice cream parlor, this place is top notch. The desserts are delicious, and the prices are pretty dirt cheap.

The line can get long in the evenings, but it moves fairly quickly. My personal favorite is the kid sized sundae, which is pretty damn big, a testament to childhood obesity in the US i suppose.  One flavor + one topping + whipped cream and cherry for 2 bucks and change is a steal compared to big chain stores (coldstone/ben and jerrys).

The service is great too - never an attitude. Overall, it feels like a very retro and friendly place, and I'll continue coming back in the future.

This is an interesting place to eat. It's definitely cute and unique. it's an old apothecary that's turned into a diner like restaurant/ice cream parlour. i had the steak sandwich with garlic toast which was tasty but way too garlicy. the fries were only so so. my parents ate the turkey dinner which they said was only okay. service was pretty good and friendly. the inside is fun to walk around and look at with old cosmetics and wall signs and there's diner stool like seating. the ice cream was great, i loved the extra thick choc malt. this is a cute alternative to the fancier places in town and i imagine it's better for breakfast/brunch.

I came back here for lunch with my bf, my brother, his wife and my adorable neice (their daughter).

I ordered a chocolate milkshake. The consistency was spot on, but the flavor was not. I don't think it was made with chocolate ice cream. I think it was vanilla with chocolate syrup (and not enough at that). I like my chocolate shakes made with chocolate ice cream. What can I say? I'm crazy like that.

Our waitress was awful as well and scowled at us the entire meal, when she wasn't busy avoiding our table. I can't understand it, not even the cute smiley face of an adorable baby could melt her cold exterior.

I still find this place to be pretty charming, and the food is still good, so I will be back. Hopefully I will get a friendlier waitress next time.

I've been here before, but I went again today with my family for some breakfast. Admittedly, it's labor day, but although our waitress was really sweet, we waited about 45 minutes for our food to make an appearance.

I got the chocolate chip pancakes but they had a rubbery texture and the chocolate chips were not actually baked in to the pancakes but sprinkled on top. We also got the potato skins which were large but greasy.

Also ordered by our table were the french toast, an omelet, and the roast beef. There were no problems with the rest of the order, except that people at the table were a tad distressed by the sheer volume of food.

Portions are ridiculously large. If you are the kind of person who doesn't eat huge portions on a regular basis, consider sharing a dish with a friend when going to Nagle's.

    I'm an old soul.

Naturally, it just feels right, sitting in this charming apothecary chowing down on a cheeseburger, french fries, and giant chocolate shake. It feels so right that I don't even feel like a fatty when my boyfriend's eating a healthy egg white omelet and I'm eating a meal pre-op Al Roker would order. No, I don't even care at all.

Ocean Grove was established in 1869 by Methodist ministers. Perhaps a remaining part of its past is the absence of beer or alcohol served in Nagle's but its ice cream are positively intoxicating!

We had an early lunch here and managed to beat the crowds. Hubby and I had turkey club and roast beef wrap. I loved the root beer float!  There is always a long line outside for the ice cream.

Although the food choices are typical for a diner, Nagle's is a great place and feel as if you just stepped back in time. The apothecary wall with its products from the old days look like it can tell a lot of interesting stories. -_-

Awesome place to visit in Ocean Grove. Great stop for a summer day. It's right on Main St. You can't miss it, so check it out! :) The food is pretty good. Incredible ice cream.

The food is pretty decent, it's your basic diner type menu - burgers, sandwiches, pickles on the side, and breakfast all day.

But the best part about Nagle's is the ice cream. My sister and I made it a tradition after a long day on the beach to order a cone piled high. The boys who work there are veryy generous; people walking by will ask you if you can really eat all that ice cream (by the way, the answer is YES). As far as flavors, I'm not so particular, but my sister would tell you not to leave Ocean Grove without trying the peanut butter twirl.

Nagle's is also cool because it has a history: it opened in something like 1902 as a drug store, so they have all these old fashioned soda drinks and shakes.

The host told us it would take 30 minutes but it ended up being about an hour wait.
Service was good. Prices are reasonable. Food was better than average.
Our table ordered, burgers, philly cheese steaks, broccoli bite, onion soup, salad.

They also have a huge variety of ice cream which is nice.

I would recommend this place because of the affordable prices, service, and quality of food.
A downside to this place is the wait.

Turn of the Century Soda Fountain Cafe former drug store. It has the best  ice cream on the Jersey Shore and it is not expensive!! You will wait in line for it on a busy nite. This is the kind of place where the waitress is going to call you hun!! I love the Tuna, Egg, Chicken Salad platter on salad with a cup of soup!!! You just cant go wrong here !!! By the way I started to put Nagels Apocothery and didnt finish it LOL!! Oh an update. Still great ice cream but found out it is not homemade but from Welsh Farms...so down a star we go but still great food and ice cream.
