the reviews must be from investors.  After a long awaited weekend getaway with long time friend, we decide to go to The Nest.  We made dinner reservations thru Open Table, arrived and were seated at a great table by the fireplace.  The music  was so horrible we were laughing at dinner, and many times, thought - is he singing THAT? completely butchered "Walk this Way" and as he sang "Pretty Woman" was so lazy and mumbling, he kept saying "Pretty Wo,ooh"  - Timing was awful, and awkward silence gaps in music of sometimes 4-5 minutes made me embarrassed for the owner and the lounge lizard.  It's any entertainer's fear that the energy will die, and it did several times - people were staring at each other "what's going on?" I have no idea why there are great reviews.  We just wanted to dance, the lack of any rhythm or energy.  Complete disappointment.
Review Source:What a blast! Â Not sure why I never knew about The Nest when vacationing in Palm Desert before. Â The crowd was great and the music fabulous as well. They had the main piano singer, as well as a drummer and lead guitarist. Â Then the owner Kevin took the mike with some great tunes--started with Daft Punk, which was unexpected and really fun.
The average age is probably about 60, but with the way everyone was dancing they were all pulling out their inner-30-something. Â By the time we got there the place was packed. Â Two local woman sitting up behind the band let us share their table--thanks ladies! Â The crowd is mostly local and really friendly.
This place is on my "must-do in Palm D" list from now on.
Went for an 8pm dinner. Very friendly staff, seated immediately, even though we were a little early. Very eclectic crowd, unusual set up, in that the dining room and bar are next to each other with no dividing wall. This means at a certain time, the band will be playing and the bar will be hopping, when you are eating - some might not like that, I thought it was rather exciting. Plus a clown will be lurking, perhaps looking at you through the window...all in all, rather fun. Food wise, had the calamari, very nice, good crispy batter, not at all greasy, with 2 dips, including a rather garlicky one, very delicious, as well as a tomato based dip. My friend had a wedge salad, which she really enjoyed, said the dressing was very good. Chose an entree from the Light Menu, Dodi's Pasta, spaghetti with spicy sausage, it was just right, nicely cooked pasta, had a good bite to it, which I like. My dining companion had the sole picata, she wasn't over keen on it, she thought it a little greasy, buttery. Lyonaisse potatoes were not good, tasted like they had been cooked a while back. Veggies were fine. Had a split of champagne (Piper Heidsieck) which was good value for $16, $8 a glass for real champagne is pretty good. As it was Monday's, some wines were half off, not all. I had a Nestini cocktail, quite strong! Pretty good though. All in all, an enjoyable night, would definitely go back to try some other dishes, and would recommend this place for sure. Would rate this 3.5 stars overall.
Review Source:Being from LA, I'm used to the highfalutin bar scene, both west and east of the 405. The Nest, in comparison, is a breath of fresh air. Â First off, don't expect an LA experience and you'll have a great time.
I went on a Wed night, not knowing what this place was all about. Yes, most of the diners are in their 60s and 70s. Â Yes, there are cougars who gave us the evil eye. Â And yes, the music is limited to the DJ singing cover songs. But these retirees have more life in them than anyone my age. The cute old men (and women) were great dancers, and all the patrons seemed genuinely friendly.
Bartenders were fun and kept the drinks flowing. Food was mediocre - calamari was too salty. There were some freaky stuffed animals by the DJ stand - I was afraid to ask so I didn't. Â If you see them, just let 'em be.
If you check out The Nest, you're most likely on vacation so just relax, have a drink, and enjoy the desert.
I freakin' love The Nest! Â It's been around for a long time. A desert staple.
Even though it says "one check-in", I've actually been several times... even as a kid in the 80s. The food and service has been consistently good every time I've been here. And the piano bar is a hoot with such a diverse crowd.
I heard this place was great.  Stopped in around 9:00 p.m. and thought I was in a scene from Cocoon.  We walked around and quickly left and headed for Costas  That place seemed to be filled with trashy 20 somethings clinging to their little groups and standing around listening to loud pulsating music.  We left at 11:00 and decided to check the Nest out on the way back to PS.  What a change in a few hours.  The octogenarians (not that there's anything wrong with that ) had departed and the crowd was basically 40+, all having a great time.  Happy vibe with many friendly people.  All of the musicians were terrific.  Will definitely return.
Review Source:We've eaten at The Nest dozens of times, but last night was extraordinary. The stuffed eggplant is outrageous and the chicken schnitzel was incredible. Service is always outstanding and no one runs a better operation than Dodi Henry. Of course we stayed and enjoyed the fantastic music and cocktails in the bar afterward. I can hardly wait to go back!
It is no secret that I frequent The Nest. The fun, friends and food are all amazing. Last night was truly exceptional. Dodi and Kevin are the hardest working people in the restaurant business  and their efforts are really paying off. The new chef has created some spectacular additions to the menu. The special last night was roast duck breast a la orange. Incredible! The polenta is a new vegetarian option and was also remarkable. Several of our guests enjoyed the stuffed trout saying it was the best they'd ever tasted. I am looking forward to another great meal there tomorrow.
I can't comment on the food, just the atmosphere. The music was too loud... the dance floor too crowded... and how people eat on the other side of the wall listening to ridiculously loud music I'll never know. My only suggestion would be, that if you're coming to EAT here, you find out when the dancing begins... and eat well before it. I wouldn't pay a penny to eat with that racket blasting. Menu, for me, was limited. Most choices were priced in the high $20s... $30s and, yes, $40s. For THAT atmosphere? Uh, no thanks. Now, if you just want to go and dance there and don't care about whether or not you can hear for a day or two thereafter, you'll probably have a good time if you don't mind packed dance floors. Not for me.
Review Source:I had one of the best nights here than I've had in a verrrrrrry long time. Was here just last Friday night for dinner- awwwwwwwesome! Had the wedge salad that was the best along with a yummy bottle of red- I had the stuffed bell pepper and my date had the sole....all was great! Then we hit the dance floor to the live band and worked off all our food! Just a great vibe....a little bit of an older woman/younger man type crowd. Would def def def definatley go back!
Review Source:Wish I could give this place zero stars. While the band was great and people were dancing, the employees were the WORST.
From the start they had an attitude. They made us wait in "line" when it wasn't even crowded. When it was time to leave, it got even worse. When we exited the bar, there was an altercation between the bouncer and a patron. Instead of just kicking the guy out and throwing him in a cab, the bouncer was trying to get the guy to start a fight. And instead of helping, the other employees were taking pictures and videos. It was AWFUL.
Meanwhile, we're standing by waiting for a cab, but everyone is too busy watching the altercation to help us. When someone finally does, he tells us it will be 15 minutes and that we need to move out of the way.
At this point we were incredibly upset, so we decided to walk, A MILE, to the hotel. That's how bad it was. And instead of stopping us, they let us walk away.
I WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE. These people are total trash.
I was trying to figure out why the reviews are skewed so high, and then it dawned on me: this is an old-person's restaurant. We were the only 30somethings in the dining area filled to the brim with octogenarians practically dripping with gaudy jewelry and floor-length gowns. It was...odd. If you're reached retirement, then this is the place for you. For me in my mid-30s, this place felt odd, like I wasn't quite welcome, or at least didn't fit in.
Our table all did the Early Bird menu, and I settled on Dodi's Pasta which is spaghetti in an olive oil and garlic sauce with spicy sausage. The sausage was good but I didn't really dig the spaghetti. The wedge salad was absolutely drenched in dressing but was indeed tasty. I had the carrot cake for dessert and felt overall that at $17 it was a good deal. My wife had their stuffed eggplant which she enjoyed. What keeps me from recommending it to my fellow genX-ers is the overall vibe, which I would blame more on the customers than the restaurant. I mean do you really need to wear a $900 gown to a $20 dinner?
Definately a place you have to go check out when your in the area! Â Such a fun place and GREAT people watching. Â We did have dinner, which was ok.....I'm more of a "foodie" so it was alittle plain for me but the wine selection was good and fair prices. Â After dinner we went in the bar/dance area and it was packed on a Thursday night - heard it's that way all the time. Â The owner came up to us and also very welcoming - she's doing things right there!
Review Source:The Nest is a local Palm Desert restaurant, bar, and night club that is gaining International Fame. Â From the streets of Cannes, to the House of Lords, people all from all over are talking about The Nest. Â
It probably has the most eclectic clientele of any place on earth. Â Its ages 21 to 101. but age is irrelevant here because everyone is enjoying every minute of dinner, drinking, and dancing Or just dinner Or just drinking Or just dancing. Â
As you can see--everything goes here and everyone is comfortable here--so don't question it, don't analyze it, don't call everyone you know--just go!
See you all here after I finish shopping on El Paseo...
In Palm Springs with my teenage daughter for a tennis tournament and we stopped in a little before 5pm for a very early dinner. Â I ordered the stuffed eggplant and my daughter had spaghetti bolognese, lentil soup and garlic bread. Â She loved her meal. Â I thought the stuffed eggplant was phenomenal! Â Even took a picture of it so we can try to recreate it at home. Â Wow! Â
Service was wonderful, food brought quickly. Â Of course, we were so early that we were basically the only ones in the dining room, but still - kudos to the staff as they checked on us often and were wonderful.
I don't know about the bar scene - judging from the reviews it must be a sight to see. Â I will say there were already a few little groups forming in the bar area drinking cocktails when we walked in. Â Will have to come back with my hubby sometime to check it out. Â Would definitely come back for the stuffed eggplant!
So glad we found an off-the-beaten-road restaurant like this one.
I just can't get enough of this place.
No matter what night you go the dancefloor is always packed and the crowd is alive and having the time of their lives. Â If you don't want to cut a rug to the live music, then go there for dinner. Â I have tried many of the selectuions on the menu and ALL of them are fantastic. Â The staff is fabulous, the food is fabulous, and the overall experience is one you will never forget.
I say GO TO THE NEST if you have the chance. Â You won't regret that you did.
What a CLASS ACT!
This is a miss-it-if-you-go-too-fast restaurant - that has a bar - and folks, it is a MUST DINE!
NEVER in a zillion years would I have thought oh-so-unnutritious iceberg lettuce would be so appealing and appetizing - and it was - the wedge salad was wonderful. I ordered stuffed eggplant, as well as the special order garlic bread - the eggplant came with a perfectly grilled serving of assorted vegetables and we ordered the carrot cake for dessert.
The Nest offers "early bird" specials during 4:30-6:30 PM M-F maybe next time I'll take them up on it.
This is NOT for families looking for budget dining - this is an elegant, one-of-a-kind restaurant that is extremely difficult to find - the ambiance, impeccable service - I can't wait to go back.
I saw a mostly older crowd - locals - older women that looked like aging movie stars but the important thing to note is the place was filling up quickly by 7 PM Â - bar was packed.
Did I mention the food was EXCELLENT?
Has a 60's vibe in spite of the upgrades and remodeling they've done - and I for one thought - GROOVY!
Tip well and enjoy every bite.
What a great place... But it's really two places. We went twice this weekend. gotta love a place that's full of locals having a good time.
The first night we went to the dinning room restaurant side. We showed up at 6:30 on a Friday night with no reservation and Dodi said give us a couple minutes and we'll find you a place. Then she sat us at a reserved table in the bar area until we could be seated in the dinning room. Â Even while we waited people came by to check on us to see if we needed anything and to tell us they were almost ready to seat us for dinner. Our server was great and the food was too. Wedge salads with smokey bacon yum! Wife had nicely grilled salmon which was perfectly done... Grilled outside, moist inside. My filet and shrimp were great as well.
Second night we went early to get a seat at the bar. The whole bar menu is $6 until 7 including the weekend. Good bar food, wonderful Bosnian dishes, good service, nice people, live music, laughter, place was packed by 7:00. Thank you Yelp... Great find. We'll be back.
Had a great experience. Â Everything is as all the reviews said: Â A restaurant and a Bar with a lively social scene in both. Â The Desert has a variety of people living there and they are all represented quite well here. Â
One thing noticeably absent is tourists to Palm Springs - it's  about a 30 minute drive from Downtown, the de facto destination of most tourists.  This means its totally legit and though there are plenty of non-locals, there's no one showing up looking like the were left there by a tornado and wondering just what the hell they are in for.
The food is good, not great (dry meatloaf with a dull gravy; I got a side of the marinara sauce to use for it which is what they should serve it with actually). Â The artichoke dip is basically a bubbly ricotta thing, with nice Greek Pitas to smear it on. Â Essentially this is a continental type joint with food you would have expected in the 70s, the peak of most of the customers charmed lives. Â My friend had the stuffed eggplant, which is essentially a deconstructed eggplant marinara - he loved it. Â Desserts - had a decent key lime pie (crust needed to be cooked more, flour tasted raw) and Baklava - way undercooked. Â
Dodi is super sweet.
I will be here whenever I visit the desert.
Thanksgiving at The Nest.
After reading the reviews of the old singles mingling at this place, maybe we could call it Empty Nest? Â No? Â Too harsh?
Anyways... Â I've done Thanksgiving once at a restaurant before this and was horribly disappointed. Â I left that particular restaurant still hungry as they were portioning for maximum profit.
The Nest definitely did a great job. Â They kept the drinks coming, served up large plates with enough to fill, and must've been paying their waitress well enough because she was all smiles while working on the holiday.
It sounds like this is a fun place to check out on a regular night, but the boring dining experience worked out just as well!
Worth a stop. Â Try 'em out!
The Nest really is by far one of the best night spots in town, honestly if not the best. There is always a great vibe here with the perfect mix of locals and tourists. The staff is attentive and friendly, even when things get crazy (and they do)! Music is live and their set list is a great mix of old school cool (check out owner Kevin Henry late night on the piano). Dinner menu is great, I highly recommend their homemade potato chips! Once you pot you just can't stop! Â Steaks, fish and Dodis authentic "moms" recipes are fantastic! Best part about the Nest is that it is a locally owned family restaurant and you always see the owners Dodi and Kevin Henry. You can how much pride they have for this establishment and their always ensure that everyone goes home happy, full, ears ringing and delightfully tipsy!
Review Source:Ate at my favorite hot spot...The Nest of course, tonight I had the spaghetti with meat balls; which was one of the specials tonight. I can't say enough great things about the meatballs, juicy & meaty (not filled with bread crumbs), just one of those things that you have to experience for yourself to truly understand the happiness that my belly went through! Â My husband had the chefs special which was baked chicken, fell off the bone and seasoned to desire, you can't go wrong with either one!
Chef JC and Fonzie, you really do know the way to a girls heart!
So my friend needed some R & R and we drove out to Palm Springs. Â This place is exactly as the other reviews said. Go in with an open mind and you'll have an awesome time. Â
One can say this is the senior citizen crowd. Â But its not what you think. People are dolled up and are getting down to the live music there.
Had an awesome time. Most likely stop by next time I'm in town!
Fun find, indeed! We were greeted, seated, and visited by owner/host Dodi, herself; she made us feel so welcomed with her warmth and friendliness -- and this was only our 1st visit!
Service was warm, friendly, efficient, and unrushed. We enjoyed the Baked Artichoke Dip; the Ribeye steak was perhaps THE best we've ever tasted; the Pacific Sole (despite it being described as one of their more popular dishes) was OK; the accompanying potatoes and vegetables were tasty sides.
After the dining room, we moved into the bar, where it was, indeed, packed. Sitting at the bartop, immediately in front of the speakers and drummer proved to be exceptionally loud, leaving me with a slight loss of hearing in 1 ear after just a few minutes. Fun and lively entertainment!
The Nest is not just a place for the older crowd!!
It is a party every night, and the live music is fun. Mostly tunes from years ago, but Kevin is a great singer & musician.
You can dance, or just kick back and watch the crowd boogie. The drinks are good & stiff, but a little on the pricey side for me! Love the appetizers and the prices for them are quite reasonable.
It's just the place to have an evening out away from the dive bars we usually frequent!!
This place is awesome! Honestly, the BEST people watching eva! Coming here almost makes me wish I was 70!! Â Them old folks were having a blast and they were dancing circles around this youngin (haha). The band was fabulous and I really enjoyed the saxaphone player. If you want a spot to rest your dogs after all that dancing then I suggest getting there before 7 otherwise you might have to wait to get in and you won't have a spot to sit.The place is small and seating is limited.
The food was also really good! You can't beat their happy hour food specials!
This place is very interesting. It may be an older crowd, but that does not mean it is boring.
There is great energy here and the food is solid.
The drinks are very good and the special menus are priced very well. Â Check out the awesome bar scene.
Definitely a fun place in the desert.
OMG BEST. PLACE. EVERRRRR
Literally: Imagine walking into a room full of 55 year olds, fully decked out in the best Chicos and Tommy Bahamas has to offer, dancing, drunk. Scan the room. See anyone younger than 40? Not a chance. More lively, more dancing, more smiles, more denture cream than any other bar you have ever been to in your life.
This is a MUST VISIT for anyone, young and old, all for distinct reasons.
While on a weekend getaway in Palm Desert I dined at The Nest, which I found on yelp. Valet Parking is available in front, but there is also a large parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. I had no reservations on a Thursday night but was promptly seated. Â There is a sit down restaurant area, as well as a lounge/bar area with music. Â Yes, 95% of the clientele here is already collecting social security, but this is true for the majority of the Palm Desert/ Palm Springs area.
The prices are very modest and reasonable for the amount of food you receive. Â All entrees INCLUDE BOTH soup and salad. Â The soup was delicious and the wedge salad was mediocre. Â I ordered the Frogs Legs in garlic butter sauce which were served with a side of risotto and spinach. Â I may not have the most discerning palette in the world, but I have had Frogs Legs on many occasions at a variety of restaurants and I must say that these were my LEAST FAVORITE. Â The risotto, however, was absolutely delicious. Â The wine list was decent, and had a good selection of wines at good prices.
Overall, I'm not sure I would return unless I was just coming to the bar for a drink or for happy hour. Â Who says you can't have fun with the 70+ crowd?
Anyone considering the Nest should read David G.'s review from 2008. Â If you don't like the review, don't go there. Â Everyone else should make it a point to drop in if they are within 30 miles. Â I don't give 5 stars often, but this place deserves them for having an authenic Palm Springs (actually Indian Wells) bar scene. Â Definitely as good as it gets.
I was talking to an 80+ woman in the bar the last time I was there, who was telling me, "Well okay, I guess this place is crudely known as a 'meat market.' Â Once you hook up (and are no longer single), you really don't come back here any more . . ." Â I wanted to hear more but some geezer snatched her up and took her off to the dance floor.
Tonight, my husband and I were looking for a place to eat and every other place in PD was dead at  8:45.  The Nest was not only still serving, but busy.  If you are looking for great food, this is probably not the place (although it is passable and reasonably priced for IW).  For us, we plan on stopping in, on occasion, for next 50 or 60 years.
Still terrific! Â Great food and service.
Just to let you know, any reviews before November 2010, were not the new owners. Â The place has been completely remodeled The clientele is younger, the food is terrific, and it no longer smells like cigarette smoke....
Sunday night is one of my favorite nights. Â Low key jazz... Â Always a great end to a week end.
Freaking awesome! Â Most fun Ive had in a bar in a loooooong time! Â I wouldn't say it was a blue haired place, more like rich retired alcoholic just got off the golf course ready to freaking party is a better description.
The full band they have is just completely on point and a totally legit musical performance. Â All the dudes are in their 60's with plastic surgery trying to rock out and look hot- it works! Theyre good!
People in here are partying their asses off, fun to people watch and be oggled by the patrons whispering they wish they were younger.
Way better place to dance than any other place in the desert ive come across. Â Alcohol is cheap too!
Trouts and cougars galore, and be sure to remember the cougars bite or lick (no really they do)! Beware!
Wow. Â I just got a glimpse of my hopeful senior citizen nightlife. Â My Ferrari being parked right out in front of the entrance by the careful young valet boys. Â My plasticky ex-wife from my third marriage proudly clinging to my right arm. Â The 50 year old barbie doll hostess winking at me before taking us to our table. Â Before the pianist playing my favorite song, I'd bump knuckles with him as I pass by.
The bartender personally delivering my overly strong (in a good way) crown seven that was knick-named after me because of what happened at NYE bash of 2047. Â And the cocktails, wow the cocktails, they would be as potent as the four pack of viagra in my left pants pocket.
After the crowds cheer me on to sing that old classic song that mention the boots with the furrrrr, I'd recharge my bionic leg and get my freak on with my lady on the dancefloor.
When the night is almost at its end, I'll return to my Italian chariot to take my date home. Â I'll pop the first half of my viagra fun pack and then connect connect both our nipples to a car battery. Â That way, we can make like rabbid bunnies and end the night proper.
Of course, she'll kick me out at 3am because I'll have made the mistake of moaning out my 2nd ex-wife's name instead of hers. Â Damn senility. Â It gets you every time.
Crap, did I also forget my credit card at the bar again?
*trying to walk through extremely crowded bar*
:: bump ::
Me: Â Oops, excuse me.
Grandpa: Oh no... excuse ME. Â It was my fault.
Me: Â Oh?
Grandpa: Â Yeah, I have a big butt.
Me: Â Hmmm... *leanin over to check him out*
Man, this place is ghetto... Geriatric ghetto that is!
Peeps in here be settin off metal detectors, not from packin gats, but from the metal hip replacements and pace makers yo. Â They roll up in pimped out Jaguar golf carts n shit. Â They pour drinks stiffer than the Viagra poppin grandpops chillin next to you.
Instead of staring at the ceiling in a retirement home somewhere, these old folks are living it up! Â Drinking, dancing, and yes even scamming... these guys know how to enjoy life :o) Â I hope I end up at the nest one of these days.... well, more like decades.
