"Honey"...  Really? Am I the only one that finds it insulting and disrespectful when a server 20 years my junior calls me "honey"?  The pizza is OK,  their sauce is very good, but... really...   HONEY??

I have lived in Alachua for three years.  NY Pizza Plus was my first meal, on my first night, and I have been in love ever since.

I can honestly say I have had pizza in New York City, downtown, Manhattan.  As NY as it gets.  This pizza is about as close as you can get, without the plane ticket.  Is it exact?  No.  But it darned sure is a contender for best pizza around.

I get a pizza from this restaurant, almost religiously.....every Friday night.  So, yeah.  I've had it a few times.  It has NEVER disappointed.  One of the most consistent pies out there.

Their main fare dishes rival those of many South Boston Italian bistros I have been to, as well.  If you want to try a little bit of everything, I suggest the lunch buffet.  They put out a beautiful salad and antipasto selection, as well as pizzas, and some Italian dishes (lasagna, meatballs, etc...).

Beware...Tuesday night is Trivia Night, and it is usually a packed house.

Love their vegetarian pizza!! It gets kinda soggy afterward from all the veggies but that's why it's a veggie pizza...

But came in here with the BFF for their Wednesday night special which this review is for.  Was not busy when we arrived and was greeted promptly to sit anywhere we liked.  We chose a booth for privacy and comfort.

We were greeted by a young man who took our drink orders of sweet teas.  We were then greeted by another young man who took our food orders. My bestie decided to go with their #1 Wednesday special of all-you-can-eat shrimp and fries and I went with the #2 special of seafood pasta.  Our orders came with a choice of soup or salad.  She chose the Caesar salad and I had the Cream of Broccoli, which was creamy and great with the garlic knots sopped in it.  Their garlic bread is a 5/5 by the way..we had to ask for 2nd servings :]

All in all, the pasta was a huge serving enough for 2 people, in my opinion.  It had mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops, and capers.  I could not finish it due to the fullness I felt from the soup and garlic bread.

She said her butterflied, fried shrimp was tasty and she had a 2nd order of it.  Service was extremely friendly and attentive.  The waiters seemed to work as a team and were always refilling our sweet teas.  My bestie is a regular and I can see why =).

Very good pizza. This is what I want when I order a New York Pizza. So what if I have never been to New York and can't compare to the best of the best. I can still compare to a hell of a lot of pizza joints and this one is far better than anything I expected from Alachua, Florida.

Even though I've only been here once, it's obviously no secret to the locals, as I was here on a Monday and it was really crowded. I don't know if this crowd is normal, as the servers got behind quickly when they got crowded. Our server did forget about us for about 20 minutes while she was tending to a rather large group, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt since we weren't in a hurry and I enjoyed the pizza enough that this didn't dampen the evening.

Free garlic knots are a plus. They were really good too. I hate the garlic knots that look and smell delicious, but taste bland. I don't understand how that happens. These tasted like they were supposed to.

We settled on a chicken parm pizza because that's what my wife suggested, and considering how indecisive we are about food, I immediately obliged. I was a little wary, as I have had a few horrible experiences with specialty pizzas(I'm looking at you BBQ Chicken pizza from Mellow Mushroom!), but this one really tasted quite a bit like a chicken parm sandwich while still also tasting like a pizza.

Large pizza, garlic knots, and 2 sodas came out to about $26 after tip. Very reasonable considering the quality and the amount of leftover pizza we took home.

I typically don't order pizza at places that don't specialize in pizza, and I somehow STILL haven't tried some local staples like Satchel's and Big Lou's. But for right now, NY Pizza Plus is taking over second place behind Blue Highway.

Apparently, the "plus" is for the diarrhea you get after eating there. The service sucked too. Never again.

EDIT:  I spoke with my friend who was with me the other day when we ate at this location.  He confirmed that he also had horrible diarrhea a couple hours after eating there.  We both had calzones.  We will never return to this place.

So I ate here again yesterday--once again, having ziti for lunch--and was once again asked "soup or salad?"  I declined the salad, but was told "it comes with the ziti."  That explains why the ziti is $12.50 at this particular ILNY Pizza and $9 or less at the others, but interestingly enough this change from a single item to this non-optional meal that costs almost $4 more isn't noted on their website and I'm pretty sure it's not on their main price board in the storefront.  I'm aware that a lot of local restaurants don't create their own webspace and I definitely know that prices can change in a flash, but this is rubbing me wrong.  Even though the food is good, I don't think I'll be back here.  It's too easy to make ziti at home.  Oh well, it was good enough the three times I ate here.  3 stars.
