My family has been coming here for a long time. Previously known as Rollo's, it's been a good stop for Wausaukee visitors for decades. I hope to stop again in August when we're back in the vicinity. Food is normally good and they carry a micro or two from Black Husky Brewery (i.e. micro brew) out of Pembine, WI. Good support of the local micro brews! Â Keep it up!
Review Source:This is a can't miss place. Â I've never had a bad meal here, nor a bad experience. Â The food is amazing. Â I've had different cuts of steak and they've all been cooked perfect. Â I'm not a fish person, but I can say that everything I've eaten here has been great - even the pasta dishes. Â The food is reasonably priced, especially for the portions. Â I always leave with a full stomach. Â I also like that it has two different atmospheres. Â You can choose to eat in the bar area if you want to check out sports on the tv, or listen to live bands, or just have a few cocktails with other people. Â If you want more of a formal dinner atmosphere you can choose to sit in the back room where it is much more formal and private. Â Can't go wrong with this place. Â It truly is as good as it gets in that area.
Review Source:Finding a good place to eat up north is a tricky business sometimes, expecially since service can vary so much from one to another. When we gave up on Gateway in Crivitz last year, we looked for alternate places to try. Going a little farther past Crivitz to Wausaukee, we found Newingham's. My wife's uncle (uncle-in-law??) recommended this place as one of his favorite dining establishments in the north woods of Wisconsin and the UP.
The front of the building is rather plain and unimpressive. Once inside, you see how huge it is, with two separate areas. The main entrance leads you into the bar area, with multiple pool tables and some side seating of tall tables with bar stools.
The restaurant is farther back. It's a spacious room with a fireplace and plenty of American West decor, featuring horses, saddles, and riding gear displayed. There's a definite cowboy theme throughout the restaurant.
With this being Friday, the fish fry is always our first choice up north. And Newingham's didn't disappoint. I ordered the walleye. My wife got the seafood platter, which consisted of cod, perch, walleye and breaded shrimp. My walleye was delicious. Likewise, my wife loved her selection too. And the service is fast.
Newingham's breading is very thin but flavorful. I honestly hate going to places where the fish fry seems to be more breading than fish. This is not the case with Newingham's. Their breading is pretty unique but excellent.
We also got some fries and some red potatoes to share. My kids had chicken strips, which were good too. We took a picture by the cowboy wood carving in the front of the restaurant ont he way out. I know we'll be coming back here in August when we do our 2nd trip to the UP.
