North Carolina Tarheel Opry House

I have been looking for a country themed bar all over the area, and this place is great. It's full of people that are there to dance and have a good time and sing. It feels like it's been around forever and I like that. The men were gentlemen and the ladies were very friendly, not like most bars where people try to mate on the dance floor. The dance floor is huge. If you can't find room to dance, it's only because everyone is dancing!  I just wish it was closer to New Bern!

I'm writing this review because I wish someone had written one when I was looking this place up. This place gets 3 stars solely because it's huge, has live music, a DJ, billiards, and multiple bars... though the bartenders aren't very happy women :(

Basically, it seems to have all the right makings to be a great dancehall. However, I don't know if it's an NC thing, but all anyone does there is LINE DANCE. We are from Texas, so we two step, half step, waltz, polka, Texas Swing, etc... but no, can't do that at Tarheels... the dancefloor is too packed with line dancers. I get that line dancing might be fun to a few songs, but these patrons looked like robotic zombies every time they got out there. It was comical, to say the least. I really wanted to walk up to the stage, grab the mic and say, "Either smile and have fun, or please clear the dance floor so that those of us that actually ENJOY dancing can have a good time!!!!"

The expressionless, robotic line dancers really ruined this place for us... and there were about 6 of us together, ready to two step or what have you. We got out there for a few spins, but it was tough trying to weave through the crowd of stagnant "hoppers." The upside: their dance floor is BIG.

The cheap drinks and billiards saved this place for that particular night, not to mention the great live music.

** If you frequent this dancehall, and LOVE to line dance, please remember there are those of us that ask, if you're going to steal the dance floor from real dancers, please at least smile and LOOK like you're having a good time.
