Oak Room

While the service here was friendly and mindful, the food was quite horrific. The specials listed outside were appealing, which drew me in to the restaurant. However, the meal I ordered was nothing short of rubbish and in no way qualified as what I thought I was ordering. Nothing was up to decent standards, besides the service, as far as I'm concerned. I would not recommend this restaurant as a viable option for a meal. To add insult to injury, the bill far exceeded what the food merited. I felt like I paid a fortune for what tasted no better than McDonald's on a bad day. I would avoid it at all costs. Although, I would imagine you can get a good beer on tap.

Most of Athens' bars are packed tightly together on South Court Street, hoping to collectively get the attention of weekend revelers and students. Oak Room is not one of these. Located far off the typical bargoer's path half a mile away, Oak Room is about a little nicer atmosphere and a little more mature taste. The Bar and Grill serves food to match. On weekends, it is packed with graduate students, post-college 20-somethings and people with a little more money.

Oak Room serves a variety of foods ranging from the average bar cuisine to finer dinner items like Penne, sirloin steak and grilled fish. These dishes, while more expensive than the average bar, are a step up in the taste department. Fried shrimp from the bar are huge and delicious. I sampled its burgers and fries, and I had one of its more formal meals which came with an appetizer salad and bread, and I have to say, either of them is great.

An odd layout to this place as it is three small rooms.  First is a restaurant with seating.  Next is a small bar with an odd u-shaped bar stool area also.  Lastly is a game room with 2 pool tables.
A fairly diverse menu with focus on pasta, steaks, seafood, and burgers.
 They have daily drink specials.  Had 8 taps when I was there with 2 empty ones, 2 of the 8 were macro stuff.  Only 1 TV in bar area.  I dont know, the service was very friendly but I dont like the way the place was setup, it just seemed odd.  
The location was nice off the main Athens strip and in a good setting by lots of apartment complexes.
