Smiling Skull Saloon

Scott's review says it all very well, but I have to throw in my endorsement for the Skull. Located away from the noise and crowds of Court Street, it's worth a short walk to come here for cheap (good) beer and some fine live music. My biker dad would be just as comfortable here as the Abercrombie set is.

Equal parts college bar, townie bar and biker bar, 'The Skull' was a favorite hangout of my late college years. A little rough around the edges but with a heaping helping of small-town charm. The crowd comes from all backgrounds here, but all seem to get along just the same. A surprisingly decent craft and draft list keeps the beer snobs happy as well as the PBR crowd. A great place to just hang with friends or to see a local band. The Smiling Skull hasn't changed much in the 15 years I've been visiting and probably won't look much different 15 years from now!
