The Oak Lounge is the place you go when you want over priced domestic drafts and shitty karaoke. Don't go here if you're looking for a fun dive bar. Only go here if you want to hang out with desperate 40 year old women singing about their failed marriages. This place is NOT WORTH ANY OF YOUR MONEY.
Review Source:First time at the Oaks! Singing some karaoke with Kowbell Karaoke. Came here to see my favorite bartender, Tiffney, and sing with my friends who run the karaoke show. Â Good time, kind of slow for a Saturday night, but still a good crowd of people. Â Pool tables, lots of space, overall a good place to hang out, drink and sign on a Saturday night.
Review Source:Jamie and Kritsie ROCK!!
One thing I hate, especially as a bartender, is when you meet a bartender for the first time and they serve you politely enough, but then go down and hang with the regulars. Don't know if this had anything to do with the fact that the reg's are men and I'm NOT...
A new customer could become a regular you know.
I've met the other two while with the hubby, and I was alone when I stopped in for a beer and "met" Debbie.
Now, I don't require fawning over, but a little chat is nice. I can get a beer for $1 if I just wanted a beer. Much closer too (store on corner.)
A bar, I go to to leave the tedium of my space at home.
But when the stool at the end of the bar and your ass meeting, is more important than a little bartender promotion, that's when I scratch you off my list as someone to go see.
Sorry. I would have given Oaks 4 or 5 stars.
I have not been to The Oaks Lounge in many years and we stopped by on Thursday night around 8 PM after a horrible visit to Loree's. I had forgotten how large The Oaks was. It was spotless from what I could tell and it was nice to see the bartender, Jamie, actually take some time to keep the bar and floor area clean and organized. There was about 10 or so patrons that came and went and everyone was pleasant. We had a couple of 7&7's that were poured well and hit the spot. The bartender was hospitable, friendly without being overbearing, taking time to introduce herself. The only con is the music selection and the fact that nearly every song that you want to play costs 2 credits - you should not have to pay .50 for anything that Michael Jackson sings.
There is a nice area in the lounge portion that  has four well cared for pool tables for those who want to rack a few as well.
We will most definitely add this to our dive bar list.
This is my local watering hole, well at least it was, until I stopped drinking. My friends and I used to go here every single weeknight. Come home from work, grab a bite to eat, go grab a beer at the Oaks.
It is not too crowded on weeknights and the staff is friendly. We liked being able to just sit at a bar, talk to bartender and other people at the bar. Nothing pretentious, just a place to relax and unwind after a day of work. The drinks are cheap and they always have some sort of drink special going.
Can't really speak for the crowd on weekends, I am not a big Karaoke fan, so when I realized they had Karaoke on the weekends, that was a big no-no for me.
I'm not a bar person, period, and I would wager that some of the older creepy dudes had come in because three dozen rollergirls had, and they all seemed to want to touch Krissy Krash (please do not fondle the rollergirls, kthx). Â We made the bar crowded, and it might have irritated the people playing pool at any of several tables, because we all wanted to dance to our friends singing karaoke and they kept having to stop playing because we were in the way.
Decent selection of karaoke songs, or at the least, they had David Lee Roth's "Just a Gigolo," which I have difficulty finding elsewhere (sang Skid Row instead, wish I'd gone with Diamond Dave).
Large, large issue with the women's restroom: there is one stall...and it has no door. Â Um. Â Plus it faces a mirror, so if I wanted to fix my hair or makeup or check for boogers (more likely than the first two), I'd also get an eyeful of somebody on the pot. Â No thanks. Â They couldn't at least nail a sheet to the wall or something?
A Shirley Temple was $2, which is certainly not LA prices. Â Then again, in LA, there are doors on restroom stalls.
We recently moved into the neighborhood and The Oaks is our new corner watering hole. Â
From the first time I saw it, I was had to guess what it was like inside - because of the black tinted windows - I thought that it would be dark and smoky inside with seedy patrons.
The first time I went in was with three girlfriends. Â We walked in on a Saturday night around 8:00 pm. Â It was not dark inside, in fact it was pretty well lit. Â There are four pool tables in the middle of the room, a bar for beverages to the left and a bar for food at the back. Â There is also a karaoke set up in the far corner.
There were a few "regulars" sitting at the bar. Â They were friendly, might have been because we were girls though. Â And when we first arrived it was kind of empty, but filled up quickly. Â And after a game at the Skate Inn, down the street, the Sac City Rollers stopped by. Â Then it got really packed. Â
There was a variety of people here - and it had a good vibe. Â
Tthe owner is a really nice guy, and the bartenders are friendly. Â
Prices are fair. Â Good drink selection, haven't tried the food yet.
I've been back since then and business has definitely been slower. Â But it's still a nice, clean place with decent clientele. Â Go for a beer, a game of pool or karaoke.
