Hadn't been to O'Doherty's in years, though my office is just five blocks away.
Love the atmosphere. The staff are really friendly.
Had the Philly Chicken Sandwich with fries. The sandwich was absolutely delicious - chicken was tender and juicy, mushrooms and peppers flavorful and tender, and the cheese properly gooey.
Left the place thinking I should visit weekly.
Fun  little spot for dinner! Nice Irish menu. The Irish stew is really good. It  has a nice broth and comes with really good bread.  The  ruben was a nice tasty choice as well. The blackened salmon salad was just okay. The service was excellent, very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.
Nice place for a meal with a group of friends.
For a bit if fun, you can stand on the counter and sing a song you can sign a dollar bill to hang on the wall.
Apparently, poor birthdayed souls may stand atop the wooden bar and sing a jingle (no accompanying music) and staple a dollar bill celebrating the event on the bar walls.
This I consider random and somewhat cool. We watched a girl that just turned 21 sing Carrie Underwood as her parents beamed on.
Yes, this is a place you can bring your parents. Hey, she did!
The goal here was to try something "local." When I travel to another state, I like to sample unique offerings. Here, I had a Canadian beer (started with a k and sound more hawaiian in origin). They were all out of Spokane microbrews.
Thus, I can't say that the beer selection is huge. It is not.
The food seems like typical greasy spoon offerings. We chose not to partake as we appropriately noted the growing "food babies" in each of our stomachs. Yummy food be damned!
The service though is very friendly, which, for out of towners, is key.
A Guinness and a hearty sandwich after a long morning/afternoon of work was precisely what the doctor ordered. Â My friend was picking me up to have lunch, so we opted for O'Doherty's. Â It was comfortable and not at all crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Â The walls were adorned with dollar bills that patrons had left with their names or witty phrases (written via Sharpie) on the face of the bill. Â My friend explained that one must stand on the bar and sing a song to earn a spot on the wall to post said currency. Â We each ordered a beer and the Reuben, called "Hooligan & Hannigan", the revered Corned Beef & Cabbage sandwich with Swiss cheese and 1000 island dressing, piled on top of grilled dark rye bread. Â Extremely delicious, filling, and satisfying.
Review Source:This was my first time eating at this location though I have walked by it millions of time while downtown throughout the years. I was to meet a friend here before heading over to watch a musical at the INB performing Arts center.
I was a bit uncertain of the place on showing up since I was early. There was an obviously intoxicated young man outside bopping along to his Ipod and leering at me. I quickly went inside and found a seat. I was quickly given a menu and asked what i would like to drink. I told the waitress I would order when my friend arrived and she came back a few minutes later to get my drink order after I had pondered over it.
I order the Newcastle Ale in a pint and really enjoyed it. I am not a huge beer lover but this Ale was perfect for me. I probably will start ordering ti when out and about because it suited my taste by not being bitter or having a strange aftertaste. The Ale arrived quickly and was just cool enough plus the whole pint glass was filled almost to brim.
I do have to say during my 15 minute wait for my friend...the loud laughing, obviously drunk, group at the actual bar area were very annoying. I know pubs/bars are loud places but that group took the cake! They calmed down as the place filled for dinner service time and the first people getting off work at 6 p.m.
My friend arrived and we ordered food. The menu is not extensive but had enough choices. It was heavy on the Irish food of course but that is expected. I ordered the Guinness Battered Fish & Chips and they were the BEST fish & chips I had in Spokane! The fish was incredibly fresh and didn't have the usual fishy taste! The last time I had fish this fresh I was in Seattle a few years ago so it has been a while. The chips (fries) were just vinegar tasting enough without going overboard. The tarter sauce that comes with them was very good as well. I have to say I totally cleared the plate which was easy because it had just the right amount of food on it without being too much.
The waitress was just attentive enough without seeming over-bearing and quite friendly as well. She didn't mind us telling her we were splitting the bill after asking if were were ready for paying the tab. The was prompt in returning with the cards after we paid as well.
Overall, a great place to eat and I will be returning there in the future.
I was craving some decent beer and some good home food... Well I got it. The stew was great (the sourdough that came with it was perfect). I had a few Harps and the fish and chips. The fish was perfect, flakey and not oily at all. The chips were decent too. If I come back through Spokane again I will make sure I stop in.
Review Source:Stopped in while passing through town coming back from a school visit to WSU with my daughter. Â Right across from the park and look interesting. Â Best meal I had on the whole trip! Â
The H&H Reuben was the best Reuben I've ever had, bar none. Â The corned beef was phenomenal! Â My daughter had the banger hogie and reported that it was very good as well. Â Interesting decor, the waiter was very attentive and had some excellent suggestions about the menu.
When you first walk in, it looks like just a bar with the restaurant as an afterthought. Â But walk in a little further...
Had a business lunch here. Â I had the "banger hoagie". Â And my business associate had the "bangers and mash". Â Both dishes were well prepared and fresh. Â We sat outside right on Spokane Falls Blvd. Â The view was great; a great place to people watch.
Prices seemed fair for the location. Â The staff was young, fun, and attentive. Â I would eat here again.
We recently traveled to Spokane for a visit and wandered into O'Doherty's for lunch. The quality was excellent and the portions were large.  The next evening we went there for dinner with the in-laws.  As we sat down in our booth the waitress brought my wife and myself an iced tea and Guinness  because she remembered that is what we ordered for lunch the day before.  Amazing!  Thank you O'Doherty's for making our trip memorable.
Review Source:The staff here is excellent. That was the first impression. Very friendly, quick to take your order, and constantly checked up on us. I was very pleased. The food wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. My wife and I ordered: Scotch eggs, Guinness beef, and shepherds pie. The Scotch eggs were standard, the Shepherd's pie was different, and the Guinness beef was standard. On the beef and the pie, the gravy was extremely salty.
I'd go back for the atmosphere, the service, and I wouldn't complain about the food. The prices aren't bad either. Sit outside and enjoy the view of the park and the beer.
Gosh, I think this restaurant should've paid ME to eat here! The Irish stew was horrible. Usually one thinks, "thicker gravy or broth" with a stew. Right? Not at this place. The stew was just carrots, potatoes, and a few small tidbits of bottom roast floating/swimming in a super thin broth. The taste was BLAND. Gosh, and I had to pay $8.95 for that dish. My friends ordered their fish and chips. They got one piece about 7 inches long and a handful of fries. REALLY?? FOR $12.95? Please reconsider before you eat here. It's expensive and the food is not worth the price.
Review Source:The downtown O'Doherty's is the best one of the Three in Spokane. The service is more attentive and more knowledgeable compared to the others. The menu is a bit different to, which is a bit weird to us. We would not recommend the Shepherd's Pie; the masher's were gritty... fake potatoes in our opinion. We recommend this anyone that likes a good and simple Irish pub.
Review Source:A friendly, downtown Irish bar across the street from the Riverfront Park. During a weekend trip to Spokane for the Women's Olympic Boxing Trials, my girlfriend and I popped in for a bathroom break in the mid-afternoon and stayed for a beer. The bartenders and local patrons were friendly and chill, and you can tell that it's the usual vibe here. Old timers come in to have a couple of beers and chat or watch a sports game on TV. Being a couple of 20-something year old ladies among a group of older men, we were a little out of place on a Friday afternoon, but they welcomed us nonetheless. We didn't eat, so I can't say anything about the food.
For those that care, it's not difficult to decipher form the décor that this place is faithful to Notre Dame, so come here if you're also a fan.
City Center - Spokane, WA: Â this is a fun place! Â It reminds me of some of the bars in S.F. North Beach. Â Lot's of "Handles". Â They are also known for their speciality drinks. Â Food is typical Pub Food, but who cares when you are having a great time. Â Everyone getting along with everyone ... and that is a welcome experience!
Review Source:Plenty of seating
Great brews on tap
Convenient downtown location
I have had a lot of success with Yelp while in L.A., Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver, BC. Â Unfortunately its more of a miss rather that a hit when it comes to Spokane. Â What seems to pass as a 5 star establishment in Spokane would barely garner a 3 star rating elsewhere. Â This is one of the few occasions where I would agree with the locals. Â O'Doherty's is worth the visit.
I went here yesterday after we couldn't get a table at Hill's Restaurant. After seeing the menu outside, and seeing that they offered Scotch Egg's on their menu outside, we went in to dine, cause we were famished! It didn't take long for the waitress to come and take our order, but after we ordered our appetizers, 5 minutes later she returned to inform me that they "just ran out of Scotch Eggs" gee, that's so nice to know, considering that there was a birthday party forming in their banquet room that a large party of ppl had reserved. I can only wonder if those guests were as disappointed as I was to be told they ran out of a certain menu item after reserving a bday party at this establishment. I can't remember the name of the menu item I ordered, but it was grilled chicken (that was burnt and dry) with a mushroom whiskey gravy served with garlic mashed potatoes (obviously not homemade, it tasted like fake flakes from a box). My friend had Fish n Chips. He said it was ok. We both agreed we wouldn't eat here again. It was more suited to ppl that wanted to drink beer and watch Gonzaga basketball. The atmosphere was obviously "college" orientated from the looks of the crowd dining and sitting at the bar. How crappy establishments like this stay open in Spokane, I have no idea. The majority of these places are geared towards college kids looking to get drunk and willing to pay for crappy overpriced bar food. Save your money and dine somewhere else.
Review Source:Absolutely fantastic location: right on the river walk with the beautiful park across the street. Service was great, but the food..... My chicken wings were too saucy and nothing really exciting, definitely not what the write ups in town led me to believe.
Oh well. Another pub another town!!!
In town for a meeting, and decided to give this place a shot. Bar is comfortable, and the staff seemed very friendly.
Ordered the fish and chips, and came out pretty damn dark, and ate more batter than actual fish. They brag about how huge the fish is, but it really is more batter than fish...and don't leave it in the fryer so long!
Figured I'd give some other food a chance, so I ordered the Scottish Eggs...I like to try them whenever I run across a reputable pub. They did an ok job with them, but again...too much cooking time, and the outside was overdone.
Place has potential, they just need to pay attention a little more in the kitchen. Maybe just a random off night...
This is a typical Irish pub not a traditional Irish pub. Some traditional food is served, but not enough. The steak is fairly good. I was not impressed by the burgers. Â The scotch (or Scottish) Eggs were very good.
I prefer a more traditional Irish pub. Tuesday nights is Celtic night so that's the night to go.
Aesthetically speaking, I didn't care for the carpet. I prefer wooden floors and walls in a pub. Oh, and wooden booths too, but O'Doherty's booths looked like they came from a Pizza Hut.
While I wasn't impressed I would definitely come again on a Tuesday night to hear the music and eat some Guinness Beef.
The one positive thing about O'Doherty's: Â It serves Rogue Dead Guy on tap.
Everything else? Â Not so positive. Â After having been numerous times with my colleagues from work, I went to sit down and make a private business call. Â For obvious reasons, I sat in the back, away from everyone else. Â My offers to purchase a beverage were refused, and after reportedly 'freaking out the waitress' I was thrown out. Â This after some old person in the pub made a comment about how "I look like I'm straight off the boat from Ireland."
I'm from Seattle, and I have never heard of anyone being treated this way in my life. Â The food is awful and their bizarrely elitist self-conception is incomprehensible. Â I have never felt so humiliated at a restaurant in my life and will never go back.
We were in town for a volleyball tournament, and were trying to find someplace to watch March Madness. Â Of course, I called on my fellow Yelp'ers and found O'Doherty's.
Great location, across from Riverfront Park, easy to find, and parking was good. Â Didn't know what to expect when you walk in, it is dark with a large bar area.
We decided to sit and have something to eat along with a couple of adult beverages. Â The waitress was very attentive and helpful and our food and drinks were brought out quickly and as ordered.
When in an Irish Pub, of course we ordered Irish, so we had the Corned Beef and cabbage, and fish and chips. Â Nothing exceptional, but still very good. Â Prices were good for food and drink.
We happened to come in when a Running Club meets so the place went from no people to packed in the span of 15 minutes, then back to no people, then packed again when the runners returned. Â The only comment my wife said was that it smelled like a gym when the runners returned.
Alas the last comment I have is, don't drink too much because if you have to use the loo (restroom), it must be a european thing because just as you open the men's room door, there is a urinal right in your face.
I told the wife to wait till we get back to the hotel.
This is a review of the restaurant/food side of this establishment only - the bar looks like a fun place to be.
My wife and I were hungry when we decided to try O'Doherty's Irish Grille. We walked in and were obviously over-dressed and waited to get seated, after about 5 minutes of just standing there I went to the bartender and asked if we should seat ourselves, he said no someone will be right with you, so we continued to wait. I was about ready to leave when the bartender yelled at the server, who was sitting in a booth talking to friends with her back to us. She gets up grabs two menus takes us to the very first table and tosses the menu down.
When the server came back she literally kneeled on the floor in front of us to take our order, a beer and a ice tea was delivered and then we waited and waited and waited. Finally someone from the kitchen came out front and talked to the server who was back sitting with her friends, back to the door and the customers. She gets up and comes back with our food.
The meat item that we ordered Medium rare was extra well done, the fries were cold. The Irish stew was horrible, no flavor and tough meat. Also when she dropped off our plates she did not offer refills on our drinks which were both empty.
The food was terrible the service horrific, would we ever go back - not a chance.
This is the Irish pub where you dance on the tables! Every town needs one, but you better get there early to get in, get a table and avoid a cover charge.O'Doherty's is Spokane's only true Irish Pub (Gabby's is closed) complete with Irish jam nights (very fun). They have one of my favorite patios with a great view of Riverfront Park.
The food is good, the beer is better - O'Doherty's is a Spokane tradition frequented by a diverse crowd of, college students, business people and regulars. Celtic jam nite is every Tuesday. Throw back a pint and sing along.
And finally, what would a pub scene be like without tradition? O'Doherty's has one, called "getting nailed." You, too, can get nailed by standing at the bar (or on the bar) and belting out a song - an entire song that is. Then you write your name on a dollar bill and nail it to the wall. Your first drink is half-price - FOR LIFE.
O'Doherty's makes me wish I was Irish.
One of my favortie places to go in Spokane. The corned beef sandwhiches are really good as well as the fish and chips and the pastie. In the summer it's really nice to eat outdoors here on a hot spokane day and in the winter the food will really warm you up. Definitely worth a stop if you are ever in spokane.
Review Source:I love O'Doherty's or the ultimate Irish experience, which is something that Spokane is missing since Gabby's closed. Â It's great to watch sports games, drink or eat outside and order appetizers. Â I've never cared for the food but then again, I don't come here for the food.
The bartenders are all very friendly and relaxed. Â I've been there on more than a few occasions where patrons would jump on the bar and sing for everyone. Â If you do, you can put a dollar on the wall. Â And trust me, the walls are covered with dollar bills.
This is the place to go in Spokane for St. Patrick's Day but we stopped going a few years ago. Â It gets so crowded that you can't even walk and they charge a $10-20 cover. Â I don't mind paying covers but I'd better be able to get a drink once I'm inside! Â The last St. Patty's we were here, we waited in line for 45 minutes, came in, spent 15 minutes trying to get to the bar and gave up and left. Â The moral of the story: get here early and grab a table!
I hung out here a lot in college and I miss it. The place is friendly, the food is good and the drinks are passable.
Some of my favorite things about O'Doherty's:
-Irish "jam" night
-Becoming a member of the family-our dollar is there somewhere
-Underage peeps can go too!
Definitely go here, it's a good time!
This is a sensitive one. O Dohertys is an old school institution in Spokane that is the anchor for St. Patrick's day. I have only met the owner once or twice but he is extremely funny and a nice guy.
I really want to give this bar 2 stars but it is part of the soul of Spokane so it gets 4 stars. Why the discrepancy?
The Pros:
Great outdoor patio across from the park
A ton of  history in Spokane
The food is solid
The cons:
If the bartenders don't know you, they don't care.....in fact they barely serve you. The service at the bar is agonizingly slow and bad. The place has a very loyal following (alot of Gonzaga Prep kids from the 80's) and if you are not a regular your money is better spent elsewhere. This fact has kept me from really enjoying the place or regularly going back.
If you walk in not expecting to be part of the bars history and don't mind waiting then it is a great place. Go there in the summer and try to stake out a table on the patio. Its well worth it..
