Anyplace that serves hot cheese with cornichons and country bread has to be good, seriously.

Went into Sutton's Bay today to spend the afternoon and ducked in here to grab some lunch.  As it is the off season, it was pleasantly uncrowded, with just a few people in having a few drinks at the bar and watching the MSU/Penn State game.  The restaurant is small, but charming - lots of wood, nice old bar, etc.  Additional seating on the patio in back in nice weather.

Good menu, somewhat more interesting than general pub fare.   On the appetizer list they offered standards such as spinach dip, etc., but they also had the aforementioned hot cheese - a  Raclette plate - yum!  Additional offerings included chili, a soup of the day (potato bacon - I wished I had ordered it when I overheard the waitresses eating some out of coffee mugs and raving about how delicious it was), salads, sandwiches such as burgers, a french dip, chicken, gyros (intriguing), and so on and so forth.

The service was really great -drinks were brought right away by a very helpful waitress.  She could not have been any nicer - my fellow was going to have a french dip and she mentioned to him that they could do it Philly Cheese Steak style with sauteed peppers, onions and cheese as well and he could still have the au jus.  He ordered that, and I tried the burger with their raclette cheese.

Food came out quickly - the cheese steak dip was amazing, the meat was tender and the bread was especially delicious and fresh.  My burger was very good as well - tender meat, perfectly cooked to medium as requested, with sauteed red onions, raclette cheese and pickle on a very fresh and tasty bun.  The burger was so large that I could only eat half!  While we were eating, the cook came out to check with the waitresses and make sure that everyone was enjoying their food.  A very friendly and well run operation!

Lunch for two with 2 sandwiches, 1 coke & 2 Sam Adams was only $22.00 - a great deal, especially up here where prices tend to be inflated.  3 stars for putting on a very good lunch, an extra star for the great service, affordable prices, and for having raclette on the menu - I'll be back for that as soon as I finish digesting my ginormous burger.
