Old Heidlberg Schnitzelhaus Lounge & Restaurant

The wurst food ever!!  LOL No, seriously the food is fantastic, the service was OK as we were pawned off on another server (mid shift I guess) half way through the meal.  Great beer selection, and AWESOME German food.  Be sure to try the red cabbage.  Definitely worth a stop in!

Came in for a beer, left having three and a pretzel. I think all vegetarians left Germany during the war, so German food is not usually my top pick. The pub downstairs is excellent. A cozy, fun spot. Great draft beer options fair prices for what is offered. I ordered a pretzel to nosh on, and was happy to see a huge pretzel the size of the plate. it was served with melted butter and spicy mustard, I would definitely come back for another beer or two, or three.

Old Heidelberg was awesome! Good food and good service. While we were deciding where to eat in helen, someone passing by on the street pointed us in the Old Heidelberg's direction. We started off with the bavarian krautkrapfen. They are these amazing little biscuits made with sauerkraut and bacon, then topped off with more bacon! Very yummy! For our entree, we got the pork cordon bleu. It was perfectly crispy and was very tender. We got the homemade spatzl, which had a great texture and was dressed in brown gravy. And definitely the best thing for dinner was the red cabbage. It was sweet and sour, and was just soooo good! For dessert, the home made apple strudel is a must! The flaky pastry was divine! I also recommend trying a shot of the underberg with the strudel. It's kind of like jager, but has a lot of spicy cinnamon notes  that compliment the strudel quite nicely.
