Wine and cheese platters are my favorite meal! Â I wish I could just have wine, cheese and fruit for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Well, I suppose I could.....
I think the wine selection is fairly decent for a small town. Â The menu always has interesting items that are described in a palatable way. Â It is a great place for a quiet date, or to chat with a friend around the fire. Â I think it has too much light for a wine bar though. Â They could use a looking over by an interior designer.
I am an unabashed fan of the OPO Wine Bar. Â It is a spacious and comfortable place, with high ceilings and hardwood floors and extremely comfortable tables and chairs (or sofas by the fireplace). Â Whether you're a single person who just wants a nice glass of wine or beer, sitting at the bar, or if you're part of a group of 2 or 4 or 12, the staff is accommodating and always pleasant.
The selection of wines is remarkable--reds, whites, sparkling, blends, dessert wines, etc--and the beer selection is equally good. Â If you can't make up your mind, the staff is knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to pairings with food.
As for the food, I have yet to have any of the actual entrees, but I have had many of the appetizers/tapas and they have all been tasty and fresh. Â For me, trips to the Wine Bar are usually for working meetings rather than pure pleasure, so the bits of the table reserved for large plates of food are often covered by notes and folders. Â I should remedy that situation...but in the meantime, Wine Bar will continue to be my go-to place for good wine/beer/atmosphere.
