The only thing that prevented me from checking in here all 3 days in a row that we ate here was that Snowshoe has no cell phone service and the wi-fi is spotty.  The food here is delicious for any area, not just a ski resort, but when you throw in the fact that it sits atop Snowshoe mountain in the village, it's perfect. An excellent selection of brews, a full bar, hot apple cider and an excellent variety of food at reasonable prices.  My favorites: The trout dip, the veggie burger and the asian shrimp wrap.  In the summer they will break out the grill and make an excellent burger right on the patio.  The service is always friendly and although the place is small, in the summer months you can spill out onto the patio and enjoy a game of corn hole while you wait for your food.  This is my go to place at Snowshoe. They tend to sell out of items by the end of a 3 day holiday weekend, especially the trout dip, so get there early and try it first.

This location has been a dozen different enterprises in years past from a candle shop, a chocolate factory, to most recently a gourmet hotdog stand.  However, I think they have done well as the Old Spruce Cafe and Tavern.  The beer list is incredible for those hop-heads who need more than the large domestic.  I was introduced to a number of new drinks, both beers and mixed cocktails, by the bar staff.  This is a great place to grab a drink or two in the afternoon or a apre ski drink in the evening.  The food, while limited in variety, is great.  If there is anything to be said that is not extremely positive, its the amount of seating inside as a result of the size of the location.  Clearly, this is no fault of theirs and the wait for seating says a lot about the business.

    The best place at Snowshoe!!

Its a small privately owned bar/cafe, there is a small bar with about 6-8 high top tables.  The owner and the staff are all very nice even when its gets busy no gets frustrated and grumpy they seem to enjoy there business unlike a few other places up there.

The Food...I'm pretty sure I had almost everything on menu.  Steak and cheese, cuban, the ruben all were AMAZING, the sandwiches come with the chef side of the day.  They have homemade soups the chicken and vegetable gumbo is awesome as well.  They breakfast sandwiches on Saturday and Sunday, also pretty good.

They have great selection of beers most are specialty beers, which is nice.  They a have beer menu giving a description of each.

The best thing about this bar is the prices and free Wi-Fi (which becomes gold when your there) !!  They are pretty reasonable both food and drink considering your at a ski resort.  My BF and I spent most of our time here.

Great beer selection and the only place on the mountain that I was able to get any cell phone service on the wifi network(verizon user).   Had beers at night and lunch the next day in between runs on the slopes which was exactly what we were looking for, sandwiches on the run. I will note to beware of the leaving items on the bar as the  bartender knocked over more drinks than he served that afternoon.  He may have had a nasty case of a hangover or something but I've seen better hands on a snake than he had.  Overall good place for an exotic beer and a bite to eat...AVOID SUNSET CANTINA across the street fyi.

This was my first time here February 2013, and boy was I impressed! Awesome soups and sandwiches with a no fried food and vegetarian friendly menu!

Bar scene is killer and the drinks are fairly priced considering your at a ski resort. My gf and I sat in there for 3 hours after riding all day and tied a nice one on before heading back to our condo, we didnt want to leave! The restaurant is clean considering people are in and out all day with boots and gear on, the bathrooms do need more persistent up keep.

The staff was great and was always helpful with answering my questions or when I had some stupid smart remark they always seem to laugh. They serve breakfast on weekends during season a fantastic lunch and dinner.

The best beer selection at snowshoe for sure with tons to choose from. Try the Cubana sandwich sure not to disappoint...

It deserves every bit of 4 stars just for the steady stream of wifi!

I will never step foot in Shavers Center again

Cool place to hangout, and have a tasty breakfast.  I enjoyed having the WIFI access and great conversation with the morning crew, Linda and Denise.  I felt like I was having breakfast at my local breakfast stop in North Carolina.  A super place to begin a full day on the Mountain.  Thanks

These other reviewers are not lying. If you're lucky enough to get service or have internet connection while on the mountain to read this review. Look no farther. Hit driving directions and go!

Killer beer selection (with poetic descriptions of each craft brew), friendly staff, creative spins on old sandwich favorites, and if I had gotten a chance to go back more often I would have even more to list on here I'm sure.

You're probably here on a vacay of some sort and despite the array of healthier sandwich offerings, Old Spruce is also decked out for... you guessed it: desserts. What more perfect way to end a day of skiing that to indulge? You can also grab a scone or pastry really quickly to go.

Best thing: prices are not the hiked up resort prices!

Much different and yet much improved from my last visit. A full bar (no tap but about 20 different bottles beers), the deep fryers are gone, and instead, a much healthier faire that even includes a number of vegetarian selections. And as well, a breakfast menu. Spoke to the owner for about ten minutes while waiting for my Lost Cuban sandwich which turned out to be delicious. Friendly staff.  And al fresco seating that is puppy friendly.

    I'm returning.

Good place to stop in for a quick couple of drinks, but only on a not busy day.

We stopped in Weds. night for a few beers. They have a decent out of the bottle selection, and I settled on a Rogue Dead Guy and a Breckenridge Vanilla Porter.

The bartender was a good guy, quick with a bottle opener and refilling our water.

The place is small, so I couldn't imagine how busy it would get on the weekends, but there were three groups of people including ourselves and the place was over 50% full already.

Beers weren't marked up to a ridiculous amount. 3 bottles + 20% tip ran $16.

I chose this venue based on the rave reviews I saw on Yelp.  It was rated 4.5/5 stars, so how could I pass it up?  It is located in the heart of the Village, next to several other restaurants and shops.  First, the place is more of a pub-style atmosphere.  There was basketball on the TV, more beers in bottles than on tap, and a lively crowd.  This made for an energetic atmosphere.

My friends and I decided to have a beer and try some of the food.  The menu consisted of a variety of appetizers, soups, salads and sandwiches.  We started with the Buffalo chicken dip, which had more of a smokey flavor than a spicy one.  The portion size was about 2 TBSP of dip with several slices of bread.  It was good dip, but I wish there had been more.

One of my friends tried a "Big Green" salad with balsamic vinegraitte and said it was "okay."  The rest of us had sandwiches (Steak and Cheese, 4 Times the Cheese, Veggie Burger, and the Reuben), which were all reasonably sized.  The sandwiches were served with potato salad (no fryers in the kitchen, thus no fries) but we had the option of choosing another side.  It was lacking in flavor.  The Steak sandwich was tender and delicious, the Veggie Burger was seasoned well and topped with lots of fresh veggies.  The Reuben was very good as well!  The grilled cheese was decent, but nothing extraordinary.  We ordered dessert, but the bartender apparently didn't hear us and we never got it.

The place was clean and the bartender was friendly.  So my overall recommendation?  If you're looking for a cool, low-key place to have a beer/drink, visit with friends, or watch sports, then this is definitely your place.  If you're looking for great food, there are definitely some better places in the Village area, but this wasn't bad.   I would definitely visit again.

The food was unique and the service was very attentive and social. As soon as we sat down the bartender came over to take our order and sat and chatted with us for a while. I recommend the JP and the buffalo chicken dip.

Nice, cozy and great service. I can't speak for the food yet (but I plan to return to try it out). The service and all around feel of the place is like that of your neighborhood bar.  Staff was very friendly and prompt. Can't wait to return :)
