We arrived at 8:30pm on 3/12 and the hostess finally came and asked if we were planning to eat. We said yes, we have a party of 6. She said "i will have to check with the kitchen." She came back and gave us such a bad feeling and feedback. I hope this owner reads this because your restaurant just lost a BIG 6 table client. It seemed like the hostess' friends were drinking at the bar who coaxed the hostess to "forget us" so they can close early. Ahhhh the help/employees we deal with to make our small businesses survive. Word to the wise with this restaurant; go when it seems to be busy or you will be shunned at the door by a "i dont care" hostess. Sorry cant be more helpful with the food, due to not even getting the attempt to. Oh well, there were many restaurants in the area that accommodated our 6top: the garlic, sushi yoshi, foundry, caseys caboose. Wont be back and will tell our friends too!
Review Source:I'm conflicted. Â My NYC palate would give this place 3 stars for sure, but it is Killington so let's go with 3.5, but not round up because I'm being realistic. Â The decor and ambiance is certainly classier than say, The Pickle Barrel - so this is a great alternative if you want to have some wine and relax after a day on the mountain but don't want to be surrounded by 21 year olds, loud music and cheesy lighting. Â
We came here on Saturday evening for my birthday dinner. Â We called ahead and reserved a space for twelve people and they did a great job accommodating us! Â My friend and I decided to split some food on our end of the table and we went with the brussels sprouts, fried calamari and the fish tacos. Â I really liked the calamari - was quite good. Â The brussels sprouts were tasty, but they were a little bit drown in whatever sauce they use for my taste and I've certainly have had better. Â The fish tacos were NOT GOOD AT ALL. Â I am a fish taco snob and these were totally fishy and lacked any sort of flavor, so I would not recommend ordering them. Â Their wine list was sub-par and honestly, who would pay $32 for a bottle of Bogle? Â You can get that for $10 at the store.
Service was good and our waitress was chipper. Â They split our checks up at the end, so that was nice. Â Overall the restaurant is really nice aesthetically speaking, but I think their wine list needs some improvement and obviously their fish tacos..because those were NOT baja, my friends!
Went on a quiet Wednesday night during a snowstorm and found the food, decor and service to be top notch! Â We loved all of the clearly fresh tapas' we tried. Â You can tell the owner and chef truly care about the place and what they are serving. Â They could easily stoop to the bland pizza, frozen then deep fried food items, or 'italian' food that so many other restaurants are serving around Killington but they don't. Â Fresh ingredients seved with a smile from a caring waitress (Diane!) made it all a great meal. Â Skip The Garlic/Outback/Pickle Barrel and head over to On the Rocs.... Highly recomend it!
Review Source:This place is incredible. I never write reviews but On the Rocs really deserves it.
I'll start with the atmosphere. I walked in after a long day on the mountain in jeans and snow boots, saw the somewhat fancy interior and thought "great, I'm under dressed". That wasn't the case at all. The hostess was incredibly friendly and our waitress was even better. She was helpful, knew the menu well, and made excellent recommendations.
My boyfriend ordered a beer but there was an issue with a censor which they promptly came to tell us about. A minute later our waitress delivered their signature house drink to him stating they would bring his beer if the censor was fixed but this was on the house. It was great! An infusion of ginger beer and lime juice plus something else. It was just delicious.
Now the most important part...the food. That's why we go out to dinner, right? I had the maple glazed salmon and my boyfriend had the swordfish special of the day. Both came with fingerling potatoes. Oh. My. God. The food was absolutely amazing. I'll bet anything you order would be just as impressive.
It's rare that I go out to eat and am absolutely blown away by the experience, but On the Rocs gave me something to rave about. Go there.
We went on Sat night (1/12/12) really expecting a  top notch dinner.
We were quite disapointed with the service! We sat down and had no place settings...just a bare table with 2 candles. Our waiter ( who was quite charming but never delivered!) took 10 minutes before taking our drink orders. Served our food before giving us place settings - said they ran out? What? You ran out of place settings on a sat night!? So he puts a pile of forks and knives on the table...thanks for that special touch. Never returned to refill water.
On to the food...tuna tataki was bland...fresh tasting but no flavor. We asked for soy sauce (again another 10 minutes) and was told the kitchen has none. Interesting....because our brussell sprouts were cooked with soy...which were pretty good! Â Chicken Milanese...again no taste and dry. No sauce could take care of that. fish tacos were good.
I think our waiter knew where we were headed with his tip because he " mistakenly" gave us the wrong change! Kept 20% of it. Icing on the cake.
We give it 2 stars because our friends thoroughly enjoyed the bar atmosphere, drinks and service. Hats off to them! They would get 5.
Who knows....maybe just a bad night! We will give it a year and try it again. Maybe our waiter will have moved on by thenn.
I can't believe I haven't reviewed On the Rocs yet! What's wrong with me? Am I getting old?
Don't answer that-its rhetorical.
On the Rocs would be a 5 star review anywhere in New York City. Â In Killington, its a gem amongst semi-precious stones. Â Don't get me wrong. Â I love Killington's bars. Â I love the dive bar scene, the juke boxes, the partying, the wings, the pizza, and sloppy ribs. Â LOVE them.
That said, if you want to go somewhere to have perfect, classic Prohibition style cocktails, and eat decadently delicious food, ingeniously crafted, then this is the place for you.
The service makes it even better, as they're friendly and sweet.
We have been here at least once a visit to Vermont, and that's a lot! I recommend the Dark and Stormy, the tequila based cocktails, and the piece de resistance-the Moscow Mule. Â
As for food, the ahi tuna tartare, the ribs, the lobster roll, the lamb chops, the pasta-they're all excellent. Â The french fries are INSANELY good. Â
They are open Wednesday through Sunday, and have a 3-6 pm happy hour that rocks- no pun intended.
Come here. Drink. Eat. Yelp.
We think On The Rocks has the best food on Killington Rd.! It is called a Lounge, but we recommend it as a restaurant. This was our second visit and we love the sophisticated, but casual atmosphere. Â The cocktail menu is unique, featuring prohibition-era drinks. We both had the Moscow Mule, which was delicious; refreshing, but not sweet. The Asian Ahi, and Caprisi salad with fried eggplant apps were fresh and very tasty. Our waitress brought warm olive bread with dipping oil, which we enjoyed. Â We shared the Rack of Lamb and a Caesar salad. The salad was crisp with shaved Parmesan cheese and light dressing. Â The Lamb was served medium-rare, as requested and was tender and nicely seasoned, served with roasted vegetables which were slightly crisp. Â Our waitress was attentive, but not hovering. We will definitely be visiting On The Rocks on our next trip to Killington.
Review Source:I love this place. Â It is a great addition to the access road. Â It is a unique little restaurant with somewhat of a sophisticated ambiance. The drink menu at the bar is what really makes this place stand alone. I had the mint julep and a taste of the whiskey smash (i think that's what it was called). Â They both were delicious, but i would recommend the latter one. Â I also had the caprese eggplant app and the ahi tartare. Â They both were excellent and i wish i had more time in Killington to have dinner there. Â i would definitely come back and recommend it to anyone who is mature enough to pay more than $10 a drink and not bitch about it. It's so worth it.
Review Source:This place is different to the other bars and eating places on the mountain. The themed interior makes a great change and is very well done. I have visited during the ski season and again in the summer when most places around are closed. Good drinks and the food is excellent. Â Well worth a visit. Don't be too put off by the miserable bar man as there are more than one and only one is a miserable git.
Review Source:The food that was delivered hot was really nice, though the portions are pretty small for the price.
I will not recant the whole experience, but I must say that the service was horrendous. The server forgot my boyfriend's beer twice - it was more than 30 minutes between the time it was ordered and delivery. The food was also quite delayed - and I can understand if the food is late due to a kitchen backup, but it wasn't hot when it was finally delivered. Only the apps were actually delivered at the correct temp.
And, speaking of temperature, it was really warm in the dining room. The people at a nearby table complained to the hostess, who decided that propping opened the door beside our table was the correct remedy. The way the door was opened, the 30 degree wind blew directly across our seats. Hmm.... maybe not the right solution for everyone.
It was a chore to even get the bill and then again to pay it.
The banquettes are quite comfy, the atmosphere is nice, but don't go on Friday night. We were there pre-rush time and the service deteriorated as the place got busier. Others we met on the slopes Saturday said the same thing. Too bad, it seems like it could be a great place.
This restaurant and speakeasy is great! Â It looks like it's either recently been opened or renovated, with low light, low noise, and comfortable booths (great laid back, ski town lounge feel). Â The specialty cocktails were very tasty and the food was excellent. Â The cocktails aren't cheap, but they're worth it! Â And I know it's called a speakeasy, but I definitely recommend this place for dinner, too--all of the food was great and the staff was attentive and friendly.
