My husband and I went to Ona's this past weekend.  It was our first time in Yachats and decided to try Ona's because there were lots of vehicles parked there.  We ordered an oyster shooter ($1), crab cakes ($5), pot stickers ($3) and clam chowder bowl ($10).

The staff were very friendly.  The food was tasty, especially the crab cakes and awesome tartar sauce.  We were very happy with deciding to stop there.  They have a great view, good food and friendly service.

I have eaten here twice and both times were very good. The first visit was for lunch and the second was for dinner. I would say that this place is worth trying. I have read some poor reviews for Ona and I do not understand why. I received amazing service and high quality food. The ambiance is a huge plus. Since it is newer, it just seems so much nicer than other places on the 101.

My fiance had the veggie burger and we both agree that it is one of the best tasting meatless burgers around. I had some chicken scallopini dish. I usually do not eat meat but I was craving chicken. The chicken was cooked just right. It was tender and flavorful. I could not ask for it to be any better. I stole some of my babe's fries; they were impressive, crunchy, stringy, golden and just they way a fry should be.

Our waitress was probably the nicest waitress in the whole world. She really knows how to make people feel comfortable and at home. Other people must be very picky to find complaints about Ona.

The cocktails were actually quite good.  I had what they called "Dark and Stormy Night."  This is not to be confused with the Dark and Stormy which is black rum and ginger beer.  This was bourbon, chocolate bitters, and muddled orange and brandy-soaked cherry.  Not bad at all.

We ordered steamer clams as an appetizer.  None of them tasted as fresh as they should have, and at least three were not even open.  The cook shouldn't have served them to us.  The broth they were steamed in was tasty, but the bread they brought to sop it up must have been cut hours before we arrived.

My partner ordered the veggie burger.  It is made in-house from quinoa, beans, and mushrooms.  It is served topped with feta, and was actually quite tasty.  It was more of a fork-and-knife patty than a burger, but still, nicely done.  The Asian slaw that came with it also had a nice flavor, and the spices melded well.  It just had too much mayo or buttermilk or ~something~ that actually detracted from what would have been a very nice side dish.

I ordered pan-fried oysters.  The salad that came with it was fine; fresh greens, and a nice dressing, perhaps house-made, or perhaps from a bottle.  The oysters were more Panko crumbs than oyster, and they were certainly cooked long enough.  If you like lots of "fried' on your oysters, you might like these.  I like oysters. It was hard to find one in among the fried crumbs.

I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant since they opened.  Their menu looked good, and it still does.  The quality didn't deliver that night.

On the way out, we glanced at the bar.  They had a blackboard with happy-hour menu items that are not on the regular menu.  This might be a good place to stop by for happy hour, but if you want dinner, you may be out of luck.

I thought I should update my previous review as I have come back several times since then.  The food offerings tend to be about the same, a lot of fried things, which is just not as healthy as what is offered at the B&B.  The service is still not really up to par.

However, the quality of the food is good.  The dressings for the salads are great and inventive.  They do still need to expand the menu with more non-seafood related appetizers and dishes, however.

I love the new lunchy menu that allows you to come in and try their food without investing into a full evening's fare.

I think staff training and a few menu tweaks and Ona might be the new Le Sere...but they should hurry as it is only a matter of time before someone buys the old Le Sere building and creates a great restaurant there--to draw business away!

We tried this place out on our recent trip to Yachats. We were staying at the Adobe, but wanted to get out for dinner and had heard good things about Ona from some friends and family. The food was excellent, but the service was a bit sub-par. Starting off with the fact that I called at 3 for a 6 pm reservation and when we arrived they didn't have a record of our reservation and therefore sat us in an area past the bar/lounge and had slower service than I anticipate we would have experienced elsewhere within the restaurant. The food was fresh, locally sourced where possible, and for the quality and execution, very reasonably priced. (They do have a kids menu with crayons, and average kids meal prices are in the $7 range - a little too high for our toddler, so we opted to share our dinner with her).

Decent place to stop in Yachats.  $75.00 for a lunch of 2Adults and 2kids.  Crab Cakes were 4/5.  Beat Salad was large.  Soups were not hot enough for my liking (both the chowder and the tomato bisque), but the bread was fresh and warm.
If you're looking for a nice atmosphere and attentive wait-staff - go for it!  If you're just looking for a quick stop while passing through, try another spot for half the $$.

We were greeted immediately and seated promptly on the heated, covered deck overlooking the Yachats River.  Our waitress was always there at the right times, and quite personable. We shared a Shrimp Cocktail with house made cocktail sauce which was very tasty.   I had the special, house made Salmon Cakes, and Bet had the Dungeness crab and shrimp stuffed Sole.  Both were wonderful.  We shall definitely be back!

the first time I was here was for dinner over Memorial Day weekend, I had a wonderful dinner and very attentive service. For that dinner I had the beet salad with chevre and the pasta seafood special, they were wonderful and I would have given this meal 4 stars.
Stopped here for lunch this week, only one wait person for the WHOLE restaurant and she hardly paid us any attention. The beet salad was not as good as I had remembered, (beets were really soft this time), plus they were out of Chevre and substituted Feta which is not even close.and the crab cake was only so-so. The best part of the lunch was the bread that is not even made on site. This lunch was at best 2 stars and I would not have given this place another try if this had been my only meal.
So I split the difference and gave it an overall 3 star rating.

Our second (or third) time in, and enjoyed it very much.
    Both of us had specials.

Hubby had seafood pasta with a good amount of salmon, clams and prawns. The saffron sauce on the pasta was what you want a seafood sauce to be: full of rich seafood flavour without the thick goo that sometimes accompanies pasta. Fresh pasta was cooked perfectly. Warm sourdough meant we didn't have to leave a drop on the plate.

I had the scallops with smashed potatoes. Scallops were perfectly cooked and tho only three, they were huge and so a nice sized serving. My dish came with a mushroom drizzle that paired well with everything else, tying it all together.

Both meals came with a field green salad perfectly dressed.
The only bad thing was we didn't have room for dessert.

Sometimes meals in smaller towns can have a more relaxed pace than one is used to in the city. Ona service seemed just right, especially considering they were busy.

Reasonable price. Kind of a small menu but what we had was good. The vegeburger was out if this world one of the best I have ever had.

The couple next to us must have spent too much time at the beach, because BOY were they crabby! (Cue snare drum).

I mention this because the woman spent a good amount of time complaining that her potatoes were cold (they weren't, I'm sure), and her chicken was larger the last time she ate there (sorry chickens are not robots and do grow to different sizes).

The manager and waitress handled it with aplomb. So... good service to be sure.

Our seafood was tasty, too. The prices, for what you get, are a bit on the high side -- it's not Little Bird, but it has close to Little Bird level prices.

But, it's Yachats. So the fact that someone is putting out a crab dip that's to die for (but kinda small), is great. My my entree, a totally serviceable sole, I think just wasn't quite as good as the menu had me drooling about: "Dover sole wrapped over Dungeness crab and bay shrimp with a Patch Work Pinot Gris cream reduction. Served with our heirloom rice blend, seasonal vegetable."

Good view and heated outdoor seating. Make a reservation during the summer season -- you don't want to be left floundering. (Re-cue snare drum and tip your waitress! Good night Yachats!!!)

Expensive and not particularly good. Bland. And burnt meatloaf, great celery soup except it was supposed to be a chowder. If they hadn't been open with seating we would have waited elsewhere. The drinks were good though the service didn't check back with us at all.

It is a nice place in a great location with good service, but the rating is just based on the food. At our table we had the grilled cheese with tomato bisque, fish and chips and meatloaf. Everything needed salt! It seemed that nothing was seasoned at all.  For the price and ambiance the food should have been much better. It was really just meh.

My husband and I were on our way back home from Florence this past weekend and decided to drive up 101. Neither of us had ever been to Yachats, but we pulled into town around noon and we were looking for a place to have lunch. First off, the curb appeal was great, it looked classy and inviting from the outside and we were pleasantly surprised to find the same when we entered the restaurant.

The food was A-mazing! I had never tried tomato bisque with Dungeness crab before and was very pleased! My husband ordered some sort of seafood melt, and after it landed on our table I didn't hear one peep from him until he finished, good sign! Also, as an appetizer we ordered the Mediterranean plate, and the Baba Ganoush was so fresh and delicious, that my husband now wants me to try and duplicate the recipe at home! The service was great, the server was just attentive enough so that all of our needs were met but he was not overbearing.

All in all, your first food experience in a town you have never been to can really make-or-break your opinion of the entire town. ONA was the first stop we had ever made in Yachats and we are SO glad we did. We were in such a good mood from a delicious lunch that we decided to spend some time in Yachats and really fell in love with the town, we can't wait to make it back and visit again soon.

Food was decent but did not live up to its menu descriptions. Partly due to execution, but also partly because major items (sides, sauces, etc.) that were mentioned as key to the dish did not actually show up when said dish was served. Disappointment coupled with overworked and underwhelming service made this an OK stop but not on the repeat list.

So, finding a good 'nice' restaurant on the coast in Oregon is always a bit challenging.

ONA is located in an almost ideal spot down in Yachats, near the water and has done a nice job of making the visitor feel welcome, and comfortable inside - to be honest, the outside seems like an afterthought with poor seats and iffy tables.

The menu is pretty classic coastal fare, geared at the mid to higher end price point. Dishes are all well thought out, and cover the ten dollar burger and fries to the thirty dollar seafood combo. Nice to see Rogue Creamery Blue offered.

Unfortunately, the chef attempts to put on a better show than the ingredients and preparation reflects. The glassware and plating is poorly functional - tipped bowls 'seem' attractive but in practice are, as one should expect, tippy - and make the portion look small. And the frosted glassware for the desserts is from the 1980s.

But let's get to the food.

I think the chef reads Food and Wine magazine and has seen fancy dishes plated, so thought they'd try that - not understanding the 'why' certain dishes are plated certain ways - and that describes ONA's approach. The chicken looked like it had exploded on the plate in a unappetizing way, the meatloaf looked like it had been pulled from a spam can then cooked, and the cake looked charred.

Their clam chowder was good - in the 'this is tasty, but where exactly are the clams' which both seemed non existent in flavor and appearance. Bacon saved this dish.

The meatloaf is cooked very well - uniformly and slightly crispy all around, as a good meatloaf should be. Unfortunately, the flavor is bland and while not devoid of juices, needs 'something' to go with it. That something should not be the garlic potatoes which are cooked with garlic which is both under powering and more noticeably too young or undercooked, so it leaves a somewhat unpleasant plantlike taste lingering. And both were woefully under seasoned.

Which brings up an interesting aside - at this level of food, spring for decent salt and pepper, or at least not generic salt and pepper poured into fairly poor shakers (in my case, both contained salt, and the waitress had to open it herself to see as if to question my ability to distinguish salt from pepper). This affected the entire meal.

Also, for three people, at least bring three uniformly sized pieces of bread - the mini heel was like a rock for the unfortunate last of our party to grab for bread.

As I noticed other diner's food, the same theme clearly was playing out - an attempt to be high end, but falling short of the meal price in delivery. The table behind me complained of cold crab cakes, and undercooked fish. Looking at both dishes, they looked as if had possibly sat while the other diner's was cooked (a dish which was clearly visibly cooked more on one side than the other).

In our case, the meatloaf was hot - the chicken not so much - and neither of our potatoes arrived more than luke warm. Had it been busy, I may have forgiven this - but it was less than half full by that point.

Finally, we tried the carrot cake with ginger ice-cream for dessert. 20 long and unexplainable minutes later, it came out - small, cold, and hard; the ginger ice cream, though also small was at least interesting to the palate. The carrot cake should be skipped - the box cake you have at home is likely as good.

All in all, for three people we spent $70 before tip. It would have been higher, but the third in our party was our daughter who ate from the children's menu. Surprisingly, and possibly because it's tourist season, many families were here - with the kids almost all uniformly complaining. Ours was polite, but quietly pouted at the mediocre noodles she was served.

All in all, I can't see eating here again, though close to home. Right across the street the Drift Inn serves annoyingly trendy fare, but better food at half the price.

Wonderful dinner Saturday night, we ate in the lounge and had prompt service.  Great list of special cocktails.  Very creative and high quality menu. The only reason not a five star was the steak was not properly cooked to medium rare, it was almost rare. I will try them again and upgrade to 5 if better next time.

I've been visiting the Florence/Yachats area for a number of years and have had a hard time finding a dinner spot that I'd want to return to again and again. Ona has become just this. The food is simply remarkable.

Some particular standouts from my last visit to the coast (2 nights at Ona in a row): delightfully warm bread, creamy crab dip, steak cooked exactly to taste (medium-rare for me) & crab cakes that are more crab than anything else. The NYE special, crab raviolis, were divine.

    I'll definitely be back.

We met some friends in the bar, but when we first walked in to the restaurant, we were sure we were in the wrong place - seemed pretty fancy (and we were not). The service was above and beyond, and veg options were available and fantastic!

I will definitely be back and have already told many people about Ona.

We've tried this place on a number of occasion and its really just never risen to it.

It's a nice location and a nice building with a full bar.  The service has routinely been absolutely awful.  The food is very ordinary and prepared without flare, spiced mostly with salt and served with a cloth napkin as if that would tie it all together - that's the ticket.

The place is always busy, so they might do alright with the tourist trade, but I suspect the locals are the folks lining the bar.  We dropped in on Labor day and were seated in the lounge by the hostess.  That's as far is it went.  We waited for our server as employees dashed hither and thither, careful to avoid eye contact.

As we waited we overheard another couple receiving complimentary meals and offered profuse apologies.  We waited as employees chit-chatted with the bar patrons.  Our hostess said she didn't know who our food server was.

We don't know who our food server was either - never had the pleasure.  We left shaking our heads as we have on other occasions.

Ona, Ona, Ona! Where's your owner? Why you got to be like this?

OK granted, Yachats was invaded over the weekend. But, guess what? Everyone was running amuck waiting on folks etc. in other restaurants in same vicinity.  Did you think about hiring extra help for this?  Who's running the show?

We walked in around 8:30pm figuring that things would have calmed down by now, and there were tables available. We went in to the bar and sat down in the corner where there is a very bright light over our heads, like a spotlight?  The youngest and most organized busperson brought us menus and silverware right away.  Then, the wait and the circus show. WOW.. I saw another couple across from us looking completely worn out and a little upset.  The manager, (I'm guessing), walked over and told them that everything that could go wrong did go wrong with their order and they would not be charging them. Well that just confirmed my suspicions.

Getting back to us under the spotlight,  even though we were obviously there, no one noticed. No one, including the manager that was talking to the couple in the bar right across from us.

The only person that came back was the original woman and she seemed helpless to do anything but she said she would let folks know we were there.

We decided that the food was just not worth the wait. And left. I would not even bother with writing this 3rd review but I am betting we were not the only people that were invisible.

This place is buzzards.  We asked the staff at the Drift Inn how it was since it was a kind of a new place (since we had been in Yachts last anyway).   After pausing for about 30 seconds, "she said that it was expensive and kinda slow."  I would add pretentious and wannabe tasty.

From the second we walked in we were ignored and it took 5 minutes before a bus boy asked if anyone had  taken our name.  It was 5pm, so I thought we wouldn't have trouble getting a table, but they said that the bar was the only open seating at that time.  No problem we thought.  The bartender was a frigging clown show.  If you have ever have worked the industry you know that it can be a haven for "go fast", if you know what I mean.  This chick could keep two thoughts together she was so amped up.

The clam dip was not hot and lacking flavor to say the least.  We went because we found a couple of good reviews amongst the slew of bad ones, but hopefully this one will help you decide not to go to this joint.

F+  Bad service, bad food, tweaker employees.  Naw it's great, check it out!

This was a nice evening dinner. Service was good, the ambiance was nice. I liked all of the photos they chose to decorate with. I got the fried cauliflower (no mushrooms)-it was pretty good. And the falafel burger, which was huge! It was tasty.
My date got the meatloaf and liked it, and the crab dip which he raved about.
They were open later than most of the other restaurants, which was nice.

I had chicken sand my hubby had the BLT.  Service a bit slow but very friendly and we weren't in a hurry as it was a beautiful day with sun and we were seated on the patio. My husbands BLT was really good with crisp bacon and a very good tomato.  Mine was just as good as his.  I would like to go back and try other items on the menu next time we are in Yachats.

My wife and I were recently in town for a stay along the Oregon coast.  We've been through the area many times previously but this was our first time at this restaurant.  For starters, before we were even seated, we were asked three times by three different people if we'd been helped, each time the answer was "Not yet".  This seemed rather disorganized to me but that's fine, they weren't too bad yet.  Once we were seated we ordered our small meal which was served promptly and the food was good but the service was where this place lost us.  There were three, maybe four, servers and maybe only 40%-50% occupied yet our server ignored us after she dropped (yes dropped) our food on our table.  No checking to see how the food was, no water refills, no drink refills, no dessert request, nothing.  We eventually had to get up and stand at the door only to be asked by the same three servers if we had been helped to which I curtly replied this time "No, we would like to leave".  Finally our original server decided to show up and give us our check, no apologies, just left the check with us at the door, turned and left.  In the end, the food was the sole redeeming value of this place but the servers need some serious training.

I'm surprised to read positive comments about this restaurant.  Our vegetables were cool, not at all warm.  When we asked to have them reheated we were refused.  The waiter said the vegetables are cooked early in the evening, not cooked fresh.  I told him the butter on my potatoes didn't even melt.  He said he COULD reheat them because they aren't a vegetable.  Hmmm.  We and the people at the next table took our meals and reheated them at our hotel.

For starters we shared fried cauliflower & mushrooms that came with a smoked paprika dipping sauce.  It was incredible.  Next we had a crab cake sandwich (was to die for) and the hubs had a burger with blue cheese and bacon.  It was truely scrumptious.

The staff was really nice and we will be back again for sure.

Worse food we have had so far on the Oregon Coast.  Not family friendly at all!  Grossly over priced and not that good....and we had the lunch menu!  They were not that busy either so not sure why the food was nothing to write home about.  My salad had lettuce and a bit of cucumber with a very mediocre dressing...blah.  My daughters crab cakes were not good and had fish bones in it.  Good tomato bisque and grilled cheese were only highlights. Just keep driving. At least scenery is good.

after two weeks of road-trippin' through the pacific north west, i was pretty weary of mediocre food: we had eaten in seattle, portland and vancouver (amongst many other towns) and had not had one decent meal in that time.

then we stopped in yachats for the night.

ona is amazing. everything about our meals was perfect: the veggie burger is delightful, and such a nice change from the crappy boca burgers that so many places serve up; the fish n chips was the best i've  had in the US so far (panko'd tender fish fillets, french fries, delish tartare sauce, unusual and yum asian slaw), and the chocolate pudding is OMG awesome. everything was just a perfect balance of flavours, and nothing
was heavy and/or fatty/oily. lovely spot and friendly service, too!

oh, and another thing: this place is pretty cheap. my husband's burger and fries was a big meal and only 10 bucks, and my generous plate of fish and fries was only 14.

Huge disappointment!!! We were told by our host at the B&B that this place was the best in town. He was so far off. We sat down and never received a glass of water. After asking for bread, the waitress ran by our table and took our plates before we finished! And the saddest part was the food. Did the chef go to culinary school or taste the food before it was sent out? My crab cake dinner was all cake and no crab!! How sad and to be right there where the freshest crab were!!! Everyone staying at our B&B agreed it was horrible. Don't waste your time or money! This chef has no idea how to cook!! And the staff were completely clueless and unprofessional!! What a huge disappointment.

We went there with a rather large party - almost a dozen! - just a few weeks after they opened. We weren't huge fans of the River House that had been there before, so we weren't entirely sure what to expect from a brand new restaurant in the same location.

We needn't have worried. The food was amazing. There was a tuna steak special that night, which I enjoyed completely. Between everyone at the table, I think we tried half the menu! We tried some appetizers, and enjoyed several bottles of excellent wine and a bit of port for dessert.

I would also like to call out the excellent and cheerful service, as well as the lovely view. It's an amazing view of the river meeting the bay, and although it was pretty much dark by the time we arrived, it's a striking view in the summer. And the interior has been freshly redecorated, which is nice and is really a great improvement.

All in all, I would say this is my current favorite restaurant on the coast. It's worth driving quite some distance, so if you're staying anywhere on the Central Oregon Coast, you should definitely make the trip. You won't regret it!
