Amazing dinner!! Visiting here from New York and loved it. It was a little hot in this weather with one tiny AC but the food was well worth it. Started with the heavenly mussels as an appetizer. Â Then had the beef tenderloin which was cooked to perfection (I like mine rare). Company had the vegetable ravioli and gnocchi. Both were excellent. Good wine selection and they had small selection of bottled beer. Would definitely come here again!
Review Source:Went with my girlfriend on a Monday night for our anniversary, with mixed results. Â We called for a reservation and arrived right on time, but the one waitress working seemed unprepared for us; it took nearly 15 minutes for her to come with water and ask about drinks, and once we decided against wine that night you could tell she sort of put us last in her mind relative to other tables, presumably due to the smaller check. Â Service was sloooow, and not through any fault of the chef; once we finally were able to order food, it came in a reasonable time frame. Â The waitress seemed overwhelmed, and we heard her apologizing to neighboring tables for mistakes and forgotten drinks, but there were only about 5 tables occupied, and 2 of them were single customers just having a drink and reading. Â The food itself was good, and appropriately priced; my gf was happy with her appetizer of mussels, and we both enjoyed the duck with raspberry demi-glace. Â Waitress again seemed put off when I said not to worry about the asparagus that was to come with my meal, as I don't care for that particular veggie, and seemed to bristle a bit that I would dare to request that the plate be served missing a side that the chef had picked. Â Regardless of the service, which made us feel like a bit of an after thought, the food was absolutely good, with nice crispy skin on the duck, respectable portions, and excellent artisan bread at the start.
Review Source:A quaint and cozy little restaurant: great atmosphere that really helped maintain the wonder of our getaway weekend. Inside the restaurant was very clean and all though very small, it in no way felt cramped. The menu is very unique which was really something we were looking for- our vacation has been really memorable so far and we didn't want some chain menu and conveyer-belt food that anyone could get just about anywhere.
We started with Mimosas and Crab Cake for an appetizer. Then my wife had a Turkey Cranberry sandwich and I had an Alaskan Salmon Burger on an English muffin. Great service and the food was excellent.
We ate lunch here in the "off season" and we were the only couple in the restaurant; I can only imagine this little place must be packed and pretty overwhelmed during the tourist season.
We were lucky to be able to walk in and get a table here as many folks afterwards were turned away due to reservations coming in. Â They have a wide selection of dishes from the simple to the more elegant. Â Everything we had was well prepared and very flavorful. Â While we did not order it, the rack of lamb looked really fantastic.
Review Source:Came here for breakfast this morning. It is a quaint, little place w/ one cook and one waitress + the owner. The food was good (huevos rancheros) and the coffee was decent however the service was hectic, chaotic and slow. One would think that any restaurant should have more than 1 waiter/waitress. Not here and it shows.
Review Source:Got here in time for brunch on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. Their outdoor seating allowed me to bring my large dog, unlike the tourist trap next door which allowed no pets in the courtyard. The staff was great and even paused to take a picture. Brunch menu was eclectic and the gingerbread waffle was delicious.
Review Source:A cute little spot just past the big famous "tourist" hotel. Food was good and service very pleasant. We had a chance to sit outside on a glorious Saturday afternoon only to find out they don'y have a license to serve wine  outside - get one! Add a few tables, clean up the outside to make it clean and neat and do some business - we would come back!
Review Source:No fuss, charming ambience with fantastic service (thank you, Josh!). The food was very good, especially the desserts. I had the duck which was well-prepared, and my husband had the trout which was both beautiful in presentation and flavor. It was not seasoned too heavily, so you could still taste the flavor of the fish itself. The vegetable dumplings were ok, but I thought they seemed a bit dried out along the edge. My real thrill was to see Qupe Syrah on the wine list...one of my favorite California wines that I rarely see by the glass, if at all, in Massachusetts. I'd also like to mention that I unknowingly spoke with the owner while at Williams and Sons Country Store. Alan O'Brient owns both the country store and the restaurant...we had a lovely chat about places to eat in Pittsfield, and he mentioned that he was in the restaurant business, but at no time did he push his restaurant on me. I happened to have reservations at Once Upon a Table, and found out only after the meal that it was his restaurant. Definitely will return when looking for a place to eat in Stockbridge. Call and make a reservation...it is a small place. I did wish, however, that I could have made reservations on line, via OpenTable, but it was worth the phone call!
Review Source:This quaint restaurant was the perfect stop for lunch on our Berkshires day trip. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the clam chowder as an appetizer which was a little watery and didn't have enough potatoes for our taste, but the bacon added a nice flavor. For an entree, I ordered the roasted red pepper, mozzarella and pesto sandwich which was delicious. The accompanying cold couscous pasta salad was flavorless. The homemade lemonade was refreshing but could use more lemon flavor.
Review Source:Have been here twice and would gladly go again many times more.
Had macaroni and cheese the second time I went-it was a special and it was so good-the perfect ratio of cheese to pasta in my opinion. I felt like I had to try it since it was a special.
Their salads are also really good fresh, locally sourced, you can tell the lettuce hasn't traveled from far away to get to your plate.
The desserts there, which have been pies, ice creams with sauces and companions and cake like torts have all been outstanding-my advice take a willing boyfriend/friend/ family member with you so that you can order many main courses and eat them all and then also order many desserts and eat them all.
If you like escargot...which I do not you should go. Boyfriend likes them and he was very happy with them both times he ordered them.
They also have a decent wine list to go with all the many dishes you'll be dining on.
On a sad note, they had some great brunch specials/breakfast type things on weekends-some very inventive pancake and waffle offerings and I regret that we weren't up early enough to try out that part of the menu-it also looked amazing.
Four of us had a late, off-season lunch and loved it. We enjoyed our salad, quiche, salmon burger, and Reuben. Fairly priced wines and lunch menu. There were too many tempting items on the menu; I wish it were a little closer so I could try them all.
We finished with delicious deserts -- the ladies raved about the crème brûlée, the chocolate cake was said to be delicious, and my cheesecake was among the best I had ever tasted. Cheesecake is often ruined with a puddle of sickly sweet raspberry syrup but this one had a nice little serving of slightly sweetened blueberries that were just right. The freshly brewed coffee hit the spot, too.
Unpretentious, friendly, delicious, and fairly priced. We couldn't have asked for more.
My husband and I dined here last night and were more than satisfied. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The atmosphere is probably the least lackluster feature of the restaurant. While it is located down a cute alley way the restaurant itself is very plain. With simple tables and chairs and minimal decorating.
They do have a few tables outdoors but are not allowed to serve and alcoholic beverages there. Also, we were warned away on account of the bugs.
The menu on the other hand is very creative and I had a hard time choosing what to order. I started with the pot pie of escargot. While it was packed with escargot the flavors weren't quick right for my taste. My husband had the steamed mussels and really enjoyed them. I tasted the broth and thought is was very good. Nice and garlicky. For our entrees my husband had one of the specials of the evening - a salad nicoise. He was happy with it. The highlight for me was the duck breast with a blackberry sauce. It was simply outstanding! We ended the evening with one of our favorite desserts, profiteroles. They were nice with a choice of ice cream flavors, vanilla, chocolate or coffee.
I think that the value of the meal was spot on. Not over-priced or under-priced.
Everything was amazing. We started with two reds (one Pinot noir and Spanish red). We shared the muddles, green mixed sad and the pecan encrusted trout. It was just enough for the two of us leaving room for the chocolate raspberry decadence. So not hesitate to try this special, special hidden gem.
Review Source:Street parking (easy during my early season visit). Â The restaurant is tucked behind the country store down a pedestrian alley.
Initially I sat outside but after slapping away a few mosquitos I retreated inside. No alcohol can be served outside if that's a deal-breaker for you. (Some desperate women asked if they might buy it inside and then carry it out to the tables. Um.) The tables inside were disconcertingly covered with pergo style wood. So very odd: easy to clean I guess; hope it wasn't recycled from an actual floor (didn't look like that). There were only 32 seats in the restaurant so it is quite small, but not crammed.
Escargot pot pie was a little disappointing--the esacargot were just the right size, but the garlic broth was a little thin. That said, I did try, unsuccessfully, to sop it up with the puff pastry crust which was also on the slight side.
Ah but the ravioli. Perfect. Vegetarian, tangy, buttery, yum. I will come back for this dish alone.
This place is absolutely adorable. You feel like you're in someone's home. Very small, but really nice and clean and friendly. It was only the owner, Alan O'Brient, and a waiter with a great beard and multiple accents (incredibly friendly it was amazing).
My mom had the niçoise salad which was amazingly delicious. My father had the crab cakes which were just as good. I had the mac n' cheese which was SO good! I would compare the mac n' cheese to the mac n' cheese at Zinc Café where i live. The mac n' cheese originally comes with bacon, but i don't eat red meat, so i ordered it without. quote from mother: "I think that if I were staying here, I would eat every meal here"
This place was really wonderful for how small it is and how quaint is. Stop here for sure!
This great restaurant has a very friendly waiter (the place is small enough that it only has one waiter, I think) and a very warm, welcoming atmosphere. Â The menu, though small, appears to rotate often and has great, inventive offerings.
I had the escargot pot pie as a starter; it was buttery and garlicky and the pie crust was excellent, light and fluffy. Â My entree was from their daily special menu; it was shrimp and scallops in a spicy marinara sauce over penne. Â It was delicious; the marinara sauce was very good and the scallops were cooked perfectly.
My girlfriend had a salad with balsamic vinaigrette and chevre and said it was very good. Â She also had the pan seared chicken with cranberry orange glaze, which looked and smelled amazing.
If you are in Stockbridge for lunch or dinner (or a weekend breakfast) I highly recommend this restaurant...really amazing all round.
Actually a 3.5 (I know I keep giving half-stars, but I wish this was a Yelp option. Â As I review more restaurants, I've become stingier with the 4's and 5's and reserve them for truly great places. Â A 3.5 means a real good place that is above average, in my book.) Â Went there recently for lunch after not having been there in a couple of years. Â Can't speak to the dinner menu, but they have a good lunch menu. Â The location is very nice; down a walkway from main street. Â My wife and I had the potato soup, which was a very nice puree (ie, not a cream based soup). Â I had the mozzarella, tomato, and roasted red pepper sandwhich and it was really good (although somewhat skimpy on the mozzarella). Â My wife had a salad which was very nice. Â A cut above the average lunch place and, based on my experience of a couple of years ago, a nice place for dinner in Stockbridge.
Review Source:Looking for an alternative to the Red Lion Inn at 8pm on a Sunday evening, we were not interested in driving to find a restaurant ready to close its doors for the day. Â Once Upon a Table was a short walk, but an incredibly pleasant surprise! Â From a New Yorker's perspective the restaurant was reasonably priced, but with a reasonable selection on the menu, but it got even better, when we tasted the Mussels w/white wine, Dumplings, and Roasted Pork Tenderloin! Â The food preparation equaled that found in our favorite venues in NYC... Excellent!
Review Source:Upon entering Stockbridge, Massachusetts, I am immediately struck with the eerie feeling that it isn't a town at all, but a row of cutouts, like a set from an old Hollywood movie. In this case, the movie is not a western, but "It's a Wonderful Life." Â Not being a huge fan of the picture postcard, Norman Rockwell inspired, Old New England aesthetic, I am often tempted to give one of the buildings a good hard shove and watch the whole WASPy facade come crumbling down.
But this Christmas, I discovered a treasure in Stockbridge. Nestled among the overpriced "Ye Olde Tchotchky Shoppes" and ridiculously overpriced "art" galleries, there is a restaurant called Once Upon a Table. The owners and wait staff are genuine, friendly and down to earth. Â The atmosphere is cosy and casual. Most importantly, it serves delicious, seasonal comfort food at affordable prices (I had hot mulled apple cider, clam chowder and a wonderful salad). Â
You will love this restaurant, whether you feel at home in Stockbridge or not.
