ONE-2ONE is a wonderful venue. Â Destiny (owner/bartender) is extremely sweet and personable as well as the other few staff members they have. Â They are incredible supporters of local, live, Austin music including singer/songwriter, blues, jazz, folk, etc. Â Additionally, every Monday is Motown Monday featuring the Matchmaker Band @ 9:00pm & the Nightowls @ 11:00pm. Â The Matchmaker Band is a groovin' 10 piece band covering classic Motown, Funk, Soul, & Dance music. Â The Nightowls is led by singer, Ryan Harkrider and features his soulful original tunes. Â Both bands are great, and there is no better place to be on a Monday night or any evening for that matter!
Review Source:They've recently moved this bar to South Lamar. It's diagonal from The Saxon Pub. In a strip center next to the 7-11.
It sounds AMAZING in this room. I was so very impressed. I went to see Jess Klein and her band. It sounded good as we walked in, it sounded good as we found out seat. It is a small venue!! But it's ok. I would definitely suggest it to other people.
Everyone needs to have a place they can go to, where everyone knows their name. 121 bar on Fifth street was that place for me.
After the place closed, the owners worked feverishly to rebuild their reputation as a fun bar to go listen to live music at. And a few months ago they did it.
Reopened on South Lamar, the One-2-One bar retained its name yet completely revamped its image as a Walk off the Street bar into a place someone drives to specifically to see a band or two.
Greg and Destiny, the owners, have brought their feel good, awesome vibe to this otherwise low key shopping strip, and have opened what I think is one of the best places to hear music on south Lamar.
The night I visited, it was a packed house in anticipation of Mingo FishTrap, am awesome NOLA style Country Funk band.
With Greg at the Board, and Destiny by his side, I see the overall increase in their happiness.
Mike Q and Jess G behind the bar pouring drinks and taking names, are two of the best bartenders in Austin.
If you are from out of town and looking for a place off the main drag of bars downtown, head down South Lamar and look for the sign at 1509 S. Lamar. They always have some local band playing its tunes, plenty of parking, and lots to drink.
There are plenty of food options nearby for those who are looking for food.
Great Job G and D...keep it up!!!!!!
New venue opened Fall 2012. This is the most bias review I will do. I love this place! The bands are mostly superb local Austin talent. If you're in the mood for Austin live local music, STOP THINKING AND GO to One-2-One. If you're not into the band for the evening then walk across the street to the Saxon Pub. It's that simple, JUST GO!
Review Source:Yea, One2One is coming back!
Having lived in Austin all my life i tend to be a bit cynical about touristy/soon-to-be everything-corporate downtown and the music scene. Â One2One became one of our favorite hang outs because they usually had talented musicians, good drinks & bartenders, a great roof top deck and more of a welcoming Austin local feel.
We're excited to hear that they really will be opening their doors again.
And now we won't have to go downtown. They'll be at 600 S.Lamar, close to the intersection at Barton Springs. Not sure of their opening date, looks like they have bands listed starting in october.
I am sorry to write about yet another great Austin live music venue that is no more in downtown! Â This really sucks :(
After the bad news about Momos going away, I found out this week One-2-One bar, which was easily accessible from downtown, had great bands come through, and that inviting large deck on the roof, sold their business there and are moving somewhere on south Lamar in the future.
The high-rise development and high costs of downtown Austin are driving some of the best music venues away. Â Ironically one of the main attractions of Austin is the live music! Â I will look forward to visiting the new location, but it will never be like the old one...
Its Nice, its small, has some seating. Has upstairs and downstairs. Downstairs usually has a band that's really super loud. So it makes you have to run away to the roof where you can hear yourself think for 2 seconds. Good to take a date to, or a good Pre-Meet up place before you start your bar hopping night.
Pros:
Medium Groups
Small Groups
Night-Time 1on1 Dates
indoor and outdoor seating
Good atmosphere, its pleasant but nothing unique.
Cons:
mildly limited seating throughout the indoors and outdoors.
Drinks, not that good.
I started going to One-2-One bar to see a local artist. I kept going because the owners and staff are very nice. They pay attention to who frequents the place and they are nice to everyone who comes in. The bar is located right at the corner of 5th and Brazos which is a great location. You can go listen to some great music, drink great drinks, or hangout upstairs on the rooftop (which has a great ambiance). I have never paid more than $5 to see a show. That $5 is for the whole night. Usually there are at least 3 bands performing.
Review Source:The people who own this bar and their employees have become like family to me. They're down to earth and pour a mean drink. The rooftop deck is beautiful and continuously upgraded. If you don't want to deal with the crowds and crappy house music on 6th street, come into One2One for some real music and good company.
Review Source:I am 23, an age fairly young by most standards especially my own. I've always held a firm belief that you are only as old as you feel. However the places I normally frequent have changed and evolved over the years most notably in the "recreational" department. Â While I am still young enough to yearn for the club scene where by 2 am you can hardly hear the girl in the pink top giving you her number, there is a huge side to me that just wants to pull up a stool and drink a couple cold ones.
A buddy of mine invited me along to see a local band play at the One-2-One Bar on a Friday night. Upon entering I knew this was the kind of place I would instantly like. The staff from the fella at the door to the bartenders were all very welcoming and didn't act like they were too busy to simply shoot the breeze for a couple of minutes and actually get to know their customers, (a trait that many people in the bar scene tend to undervalue nowadays). Â If you aren't satisfied being downstairs the bar also holds a section upstairs filled with comfortable chairs and a simple view of the downtown streets. So if you're looking for a relaxing time with a few friends and some good local music, head towards the One-2-One Bar.
At some point in my early-mid 20's, I got old. Â The pulsating, chest-rattling music on 6th street (and certain parts of 5th street) didn't do it for me anymore. Â Neither did the throngs of college kids who have a tendency to vomit where people walk, or the idiotic guidos who visually pollute the place with Affliction shirts.
Enter One-2-One. Â The name is goofy enough, but the venue is relatively quiet, in a good way. Â The downstairs section has live music, and from the times I've been there, it's generally been pretty good blues or rock.
I prefer the upstairs (rooftop) section, though, which allows a relatively relaxed evening. Â This section has chairs with those freestanding propane heaters, which keep you warm and cozy on a cold night (or maybe it's just the booze). Â It's rarely extremely crowded, and quiet enough so that you can actually carry on a conversation. Â Despite the fact that there are fewer people there than in most bars, it's actually easier to meet people here because you don't have to shout. Â One time, we met a ranch hand who basically castrated bulls for a living. Â It takes all kinds to make a world, I guess.
this will be a double review as I'm reviewing it as a patron as well as a musician. So, if you would like to attend this venue and hear music and have a drink, read the first review. If you're in a band and contemplating playing here, kick the groupies out of your bed, yell at your road manager for letting one yellow M&M wind up in your bowl smash a guitar and read the second one:
*One 2 One as a bar*
Sound System - This bar is built as a live music venue. Therefore, all of the equipment in it is very high quality and always operated well and maintained throughout a show. In other words, the sound guy always rides the mix and makes sure that the sound the audience hears is of good quality. Also, and more importantly, every band that plays here is GOOD. I know that sounds typical but it isn't. Sadly, most bars care more about how many people a band brings but not One 2 One. Instead, they are branding themselves as a great place to hear live music where people can come any night and expect something special.
Ambiance - It's really two bars in one. Downstairs is a great intimate live music setting with perfect sound and upstairs is a very well put together rooftop deck with benches and chairs. Excluding the live music, the upstairs patio is a great place to sit and relax with a date or hang out and catch up with old friend.
Service - Always prompt, always professional, always friendly. One of the owners is always behind the bar and all of the other bartenders are constantly trying to serve drinks as opposed to texting friends or talking to their friends in lieu of serving customers. There is nothing revolutionary on the bar menu and I'm perfectly ok with that.
Overall - One 2 One might be tied with Saxon Pub as the best small live music venue in Austin on a sound level and when coupled with it's more laid back feel and service, it's my favorite.
*One 2 One from a musician's standpoint*
caveat - I've only played here 3 times and every time in a different project but the consistency of those experiences makes me confident in this review.
Positives Â
1. BACKLINE!!! Yes, it's true!! It exists!! One 2 One has a nice small Gretsch  drum kit so you just bring cymbals, snare, kick pedal and throne and you are set up! Or, in drummer terms: ONE trip from the car as opposed to 3. Also, they have a Markbass 1-12 rig which sounds great so bassists can just bring their bass and leave their rig at home. I don't think there is a guitar amp but knowing guitarists and their quest for tone (yes, I would bring my own amp as well) that makes sense.
2. Soundguy who cares - I know, I know... the set it and forget it Ronco Soundguy. We all hate him. You'll never get that here. He's constantly tweaking the PA to make sure it sounds perfect and will ride the mix until you're offstage.
3. YOU KEEP THE ENTIRE COVER CHARGE! Yes, all of it. ALL of it. Not 50%, all of it. Also, they'll sell your CDs for you with no commission. It's pretty awesome.
Negatives
1. You have to book 3-4 months in advance. They run a tight ship there is if your schedule can handle it, this is how you'll book.
2. They don't care how many people you'll bring. If they think you are really good and you'll draw 10 people, they'd rather have you play than someone who sucks and draws 80. So.... You better play well and you better have some sort of music they can hear.
3. Oh, cruel twists of fate... NO BAR TAB... Apparently, some owners don't think it's cool when their musicians get shithoused at their shows. I know, I know.... every other bar gives us a full comp tab which we abuse mercilessly, but nothing here.
Overall - I honestly my musical projects were better suited to this place because every time I've played here it's been an incredible experience. There is no other bar in Austin where musicians are treated with this kind of respect and made to feel like a partner more than hired help. If you're a musician and you have an opportunity to gig here, pursue it with vigor as you'll be rewarded with a great experience.
Went out for Halloween shenanigans last night and One-2-One was a welcome reprieve from the throngs on 6th street. We stopped here to drink up on our way to go dance. The booze was reasonably priced and poured generously, bartenders were friendly, and the separate beer + Jagermeister table(we were on the roof) helps keep wait times down.
The only downside was the music selection, which wasn't really conducive to downtown foolishness. That said, I'm pretty sure they know this, since they keep the volume low enough to allow conversation, which is a nice change of pace for Austin, though not really what we were looking for last night.
Reasonable prices, friendly service and decent atmosphere. Recommended to kick off a night (drinking quickly) or to drink in an environment where you can actually enjoy your friends.
What a like about this place is that it is downtown, but a tiny bit off the beaten path, so it normally doesn't pick up the usual throng of frat/sorotwats that you encounter in the 4th and 6th street districts.  The bar downstairs is long and narrow, so get there early if there is a band that you must be within spitting distance of.  Bartender and other staff are super nice and on top of their service. What makes this place  great, though, is the roof top bar.  I've never had a problem finding a seat, and the atmosphere is open, yet cozy.  Good place to take a date, if you actually want to talk to him or her.
Review Source:5 stars for the music! 3 for downstairs seating. 5 for acoustics/sound quality. 4 for service. And unfotunately a 2 or 1 for drinks taste. The orange they use is absolutely terrible! The pineapple equally gross. I felt bad because otherwise this place is entertaining and very fun. I just highly reccommend staying away from the mixed drinks and I promise you'll have a good time if you're into great live music.
Review Source:Ended up at this place last weekend because it was convenient. They had a bar that hadn't started yet... We were told we could pay $5 cover to sit downstairs at the bar in a cramped area and wait to hear a band that hadn't started yet, or go upstairs to the rooftop for free.
We went upstairs and were pleasantly surprised. The patio furniture was reminiscent of Union Park. Cozy setup with lots of heat lamps. It wasn't too busy. Nice atmosphere to have a few drinks and relax. Seems like they're pet-friendly, as we saw a dog bowl... No dogs present, though.
There are two sets of stairs--one of them puts you downstairs at the bathrooms, past the front where they collect cover. Curious, we asked our waitress if it really was $5 to sit downstairs. She said t if we want to sit downstairs and drink, we have to pay another $5 (even though we could clearly just walk down there and avoid paying) because they want to pay the band without it coming from the bar's proceeds.
Anyway, it was a nice, relaxing atmosphere. I'll likely go back.
After speedily passing crappy top 40 bar after top 40 bar, we almost past by this place to grab a cab, but stopped in because of the sexy blue's coming from inside. Â We grabbed a few beers, and had a great time. Â I ran into the owner, and she seemed really friendly, and hands on. Â This place feels really comfortable, and the musicians are right there with you, so you can really enjoy their music.
Review Source:Checked out this place based on all the good reviews posted here, and truly lived up to it's expectations. I loved it for 2 reasons - the rooftop balcony is a wonderful to have a small get together. It was not crowded (even on a Friday night), and they have given thought and care to the ambiance. We could all hear each other speak, which was wonderful. Downstairs was just as great. There were two separate bands that performed throughout the evening - small, local, and good, and even though my group was upstairs I kept getting sucked into the music downstairs every time I came down for a refill of my "Blue Moon" draft. I think most of all, the downstairs mood and ambiance reminded me a little of all those great off-the-beaten path New Orleans joints where you can have a drink, enjoy some fine music, and let the night hours slip on by...
Review Source:One-2-One has got to be one of the greatest places in town. No, it's not Stubb's or Antone's, but it's the place to go if you want to catch a good show for FREE almost any day of the week, and not pay ridiculous amounts for a drink.
People say that the indoor part of the club is a little small, and I would agree that it is. But hey, doesn't that mean we all just have to get a little closer together? If you ask me, that's what the world needs right about now...
Though it would be nice for them to expand into the building next door (which they were trying), the deck upstairs is freakin' awesome. I love hanging up there during the winter. Just chill around one of the heaters with a few good friends and have a great time. Â Or just enjoy the rad view of the city.
The staff is pretty awesome too. The owners are always there and they'll make sure that you can really enjoy yourself. Also, it's not on 6th street, so it's a lot calmer and you don't have to deal with drunk folks gettin' all up in your business.
This place is straight up bad ass. Again, it's ALWAYS free. So next time you're walking by and you see Eric Tessmer or Alan Haynes shreddin' Â on stage, don't just stand outside the window and watch. Because everybody inside will be looking at you funny. Just walk on in, grab a drink, dance a little, and enjoy the tunes.
This place has definitely become my favorite Wednesday night hang out. The bartenders are friendly and attentive, and drink prices are reasonable. Their rooftop is awesome. I've never seen it too crowded. Overall a good little bar.
But the true reason I frequent this place so often is that Ady Hernandez plays (almost) every Wednesday. Don't get me wrong, I have gone here on other nights and had a fine time, but the bar itself only gets 4 stars. It doesn't get much better than this guy. He plays with a band (80H project) that has a few rotating members, and they always put on a great show. It's a brand of music like no other and it is where I go whether I need a pick me up, to chill out, to release some stress, you name it. However you slice it, it's tops for me.
I really want to give this place 5 stars for allowing my Butt Sniffer. Â So, Â for me they get 5 stars for allowing my Pup to tag along while I socialize. Â But, for the average person looking for a roof top bar I give them a good 4 stars.
If you are looking for a rooftop bar that has nice views and low prices I highly recommend One-2-One Bar.
One-2-One is Two-4-Two. Â I have been on two occasions and enjoyed both visits. Â The first was to enjoy the rooftop deck with some co-workers. Â The deck provided a nice place to chill out. Â I went for a second visit and caught Blaze for some smoking jazz. Â This visit sealed the deal. Â I sat at the bar and enjoyed the service provided by the bartenders, Destiny and Billy. Â They were fantastic and enjoyed the music as much as I did, if not, more. Â The placement of the stage provides for some interesting people watching, as you can see foot traffic walking by stopping to check out the band. Â I will keep an eye on the bands the book and make it a point to return. Â As others have noted, the spot is conveniently located in-between sixth street and the warehouse district.
Review Source:I have driven/walked by this place too many times to count and never thought to actually go inside. However, last Friday night, upon chance, I ended up walking into the front door to this place after a friend heard a familiar band playing inside.
The bar itself... is... well... mediocre at best. It's small, long and skinny (yeah, that's what she said...) and there isn't a whole lot of place to move around. We decided to head upstairs to the rooftop deck between band sets. The rooftop was super cute, roomy, not at all crowded, equipped with a bar and a semi-great view of downtown. And by downtown, I pretty much mean the Frost building, but it just happens to be the prettiest downtown building at night, so it was nice.
The music was at a reasonable i-can-actually-hear-what-you're-saying-to-me-Âlevel.
If the weather is right, so is this upstairs bar.
A surprisingly coy and charming rooftop bar masquerading as a throwaway, poor-man's Steamboat in the not-quite-warehouse, not-quite-6th-street desert of 5th and Congress. Â The open air patio has decent views of downtown but comfortable furniture and plenty of leaning spots for a casual night out. Â You're not gonna blow it out here, but its a great space to just chill with a pint and have great conversation. Â No DJs mashing up the decks or live cover band clanging away, crowding the talk space. Â Whats also great is you can open up a tab anywhere in the bar and its linked to all other bars [yes, even upstairs], so you don't have to make that dispiriting trudge downstairs to the main bar. Â Only catch, no draft at the patio bar.
Review Source:Can you keep a secret? I'm sure you can! Â One-2-One bar has one of the best roof top decks in all of Austin. Â Add to that their great drink prices and I'm willing to forgo the South Beach feel of Speakeasy's Terrace for the elegant and simple confines of One-2-One. Â The cherry on top: the roof top is dog friendly!
Review Source:The name of this bar makes me think it's made for you to meet someone. I went for the Yelp event and I thought it was pretty cool. The time that the even started was definitely not peak hour, so nobody was there 'cept us yelpers.
The roof is nice. I can see myself hanging out on it with some cool people and having a brew. It was nice and windy, so it kinda "cools" you off from the Texas summer heat.
Also, the bartenders were really nice. Helpful and chatty! which makes me wanna throw them some tips!
Nothing says "sweet bar!" like an upstairs, outdoor patio. One 2 One's outdoor ambiance allows for the social gathering between friends as well as the meet and greet mingle. It's a good after-work bar--I visited around 5 or 6 on a Friday for the most recent Yelp event. I can't speak for the Friday/Saturday night 6th Street make up of the place, but it's laid back here and I'm definitely going to put it on my list of bars to go back to.
Review Source:So I got a little confused about when the yelp event was supposed to be so I showed up at 1-2-1 a week early. Â I really like their roof top lounge area. Â It was nice and shady when I was up there so I really enjoyed it; it would be have been HOT HOT HOT without any shade.
They seem to have good prices on the drinks.  Downstairs the windows are usually open & the place is so packed on Friday/Saturday nights that it seems like bodies are hanging out of the  windows.
Too bad that I won't be  able to get the VIP seating at next week's yelp event (I suspect that there will be too many people).
Stairs, stairs, stairs!
From one Yelper 2 another (yes, I gagged while typing that), I've got a confession: I don't really see what makes this place special.
Nothing wrong with it, and maybe they've got good drink prices (I haven't investigated) or invite cool bands once in a while, but the night I was there, just about the only attractor was the fun group (Yelpers, all) and an unremarkable but comfortable rooftop deck -- reached by climbing 4 flights of metal stairs.
The bands (saw two, briefly) were not interesting in the slightest. The vacant look on the face of the guy half-heartedly snapping his fingers as his bandmate strummed along was quite strange, too.
I did like that you didn't have to go downstairs to get drinks -- a waitress helped us out there -- but I'd only come back for friends' sake.
I'd been in here a few years ago, prior to the addition of the rooftop deck, and at the time it was three stars fine. Â Given that, I've been meaning to stop back in and give this place a whirl since they added a second level, and as they were on my way to the car last night, I did just that. Â Pleasant surprise.
I've always worried a little about this place in days past, mostly cause it has a neighborhood bar feel smack in the middle of downtown, and most times, it's been moderately slow when I've been by. Â But what a difference that deck makes: Â gazebos, comfortable seating, modern touches, revealed upstairs in the shade of the next building facade. Â The result was a cozy and comfortable stop that made each of us in our party wonder why the hell it had taken us so long to get in.
Minus a star for the fact that there wasn't a bartender upstairs, but even so, that may have been a blessing. Â And it definitely made the intimate yet ideal surroundings all the more immediate.
Love this place.  I have been on several occasions and everytime the  music has been outstanding.  the bartenders are great and the atmosphere is  truly what the Austin music scene is always looking for. Fans of good music, not just a nightly hookup that is so easily found  around town.  Keep it up One on One,, you have a bright future...
Review Source:This fine little bar on the corner of 5th and Brazos is a quick escape whenever you're feeling overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the 6th street district. Â The windows in the front are generally wide open during the summer so you can enjoy the breeze flowing into the bar area.
The drinks are moderately priced, the staff will take care of you, and the bathrooms seem a bit cleaner than their counterparts one block away.
And if you've got the time, have a chat with the owner and hear some great sky diving stories.
