LIGHT UP THAT DANCE FLOOR figuratively and literally.
There is a $5 cover on the weekends- worth it.
Opies is a FANTASTIC place to end a night with your grooviest dance moves.
Leave your coat and nicer clothes as this is a smoking bar. No matter what, you will go home needing to take two showers. Maybe 3.
Walk in and you will hopefully be greeted by Opie himself. He's a dude of dynamite and will encourage you to have a great time. To your left, Â there is a room with a LIGHT UP DANCE floor, shag carpet and a DJ pulsin' some serious 70's bitchin' tunes.
This room is my favorite. I married a man of the finest quality dance moves. Think I'm being generous with these words? He has blown out FOUR pairs of pants at weddings from dancing so well. (That includes our weddin') So, friends, I have some some things to aspire to which include keeping up with his booty shaking. All of that to say, this room provides some SOLID oldies that everyone has practice dancing to. I feel like I can do enough Britney hair flips and YMCA's to keep up.
On the right side, you can get a down to a more top 40 hip hip dance floor. The bar is on this side if you get thirsty. This room is not my favorite. It's darker and it feels like everyone is watching you dance. Well, let's be honest, they are probably watch Colin. Nonetheless, I feel a little uncomfortable.
Thanks, OPIE!
Opies is better than a mullet. It's a party in the front and in the back! You can park right out front and you don't have to walk very far. For ladies with intense heels, this is great. However, attire at Opies is open to anything; you can get away with jeans and a t-shirt or a ballgown...
You're greeted at Opies by a bouncer or two. They'll check your i.d. and charge you a nominal entrance fee (like $5) or let you in with your V.I.P. card. If you're lucky, the owner will be there to greet you too; he's very friendly.
Once you're in, you'll see pool tables and a foosball table. But the fun doesn't have to end there. If you walk in and hang a right, you'll walk into a room that has booths along the wall and tables with chairs next to the dance floor. The dance floor has some mirrored walls next to it and the dj booth. You'll get some colorful laser lights and 90s and 2000s music. Â No matter which room you're in, you'll get great service and very inexpensive drinks. There are also some televisions which were showing football games last time I was there.
Now, if you turned left after you entered, you go into the magical wonderland that is the 60's, 70's, and 80's music room. You'll notice the Golden Girls type of lanai furniture set on shag carpet next to the bar which appears to be somewhat supported by lava lamps. It gets better as you make your way to the light up tile dance floor surrounded by a wall of mirrors and adorned with a lifesize statue of Elvis.
Ladies, of course I checked, and yes, the bathrooms are clean. You're welcome.
The only thing that bugged me about Opies was the smell of cigarette. I Febreezed my car when I got home, washed my clothes, showered, and used my Neti-Pot. Problem solved. I'll be back.
