Oscar Store has been the site of two big family events and I'm a fan!

The ambiance is perfectly Texas. This is a great place to spend some time on a weekend afternoon. A band was setting up as we left this weekend. I wished we didn't have to leave because it seems like a great place to listen to some Texas music!

Y'all know I love comfort food and Oscar Store is the perfect place for some good comfort food. I've had the chicken fried steak every time. It's good! And they have fried pickles! These fried pickles are slices with really good ranch.

We held one big family Christmas lunch here and a 60th anniversary celebration. Each of these events involved groups of 20. There was plenty of room for everyone, something for everyone on the menu, and the staff are so friendly and accommodating!

We went to Oscar Store on Friday afternoon. We ordered burgers and fries.  Love hand cut fries, and home made burgers..no pre-fab patties here..very good service, and the atmosphere is great..we will be going back :)

Great all around Texas food(ex. burgers and chicken fried steaks)!!  The Thomas Burger was amazing but you need a big appetite to take down the two 10 oz. patties it offers.  Also, Oscar Store offers a large Live Music venue which was spectacular and icing on the cake!  Definitely, worth the drive just outside of Temple, TX for a nice Friday night outing!

This place is decidedly meh.  The food is ok but not that special.  The service was definitely lacking.  I asked about a t-shirt at the till and the lady more or less blew me off.  I guess they don't want your money unless they're charging you for soda refills of all things.  Again, it's ok, but I can get better food and better service at someplace in town.

This little piece of Texas is a big plus for those that reside or are passing through the Temple area. Setting is simply awesome and you can't beat $2 brews all the time.

Love cheeseburgers and believe they could improve the offering by simply following a few basic suggestions. First of all make sure the customer doesn't want their meat patty well done. Secondly this is not Sonic Burger. Adios the chopped lettuce and chopped onions. Lastly... melt the damn cheese over the patty. Y'all should also take pains to ensure that extra crispy fries are indeed extra crispy when served to the customer. Y'all have a great start with those hand cut spuds. Stop screwing it up!

A few simple steps and this burger could be in the Texas Top Ten.

I LOVED this place!!!!!!  What a great piece of Texas! This place is in the middle of nowhere but the food is awesome and the beer is cheap!!!!! Outdoor dance floor that is huge, great bands! We went in July when it was super hot but the heat didnt bother us, they provide buckets of ice to keep the beer cold :) nothing like a warm Texas night with good Texas music and some shiner!!!!! Check it out!!!

Heading back to Taylor after a blistering afternoon of hiking at Mother Neff, we stopped by the Oscar Store on the recommendation of a friend of my wife, who grew up in Temple and used to go to there with his grandpa.  I'm sure glad we made the trip.  This is your classic small town restaurant/bar/roadhouse.  The menu is simple, fish, chicken fried steak, burgers, etc.  But really, do you need anything else?

My wife and I started off when a couple of ice-cold longnecks and an order of onion rings.  These were perfect, nice flaky batter (not that thick kind that breaks off and leaves you with just an onion strip hanging there...), and they were HUGE!  I'm not a small guy and I could have worn one of them as a bracelet, heh heh...

We both got the cheeseburger baskets, hers the small and mine the large.  They were both excellent, and one nice surprise I didn't expect - the burgers were char-broiled.  Damn, that was just the topping on the cake of an excellent big juicy burger.  Oh, did I mention, home cut fries?  Hell yeah!  Just like mama used to make.

There were quite a few folks here at 2pm on a hot Friday, everybody was super friendly, we made sure to check out what everybody else was eating, the chicken fry looked great and I saw a heaping pile of fried chicken gizzards that I will definitely be ordering next time.

The place also has a little bar on the other side of the dining area, a TV or two (looked like a great place to camp out and watch football), and a biergarten/dance area outside, looks like they have live music on Fri-Sat nights, may have to check that out sometime.

All in all, a classic piece of small town Americana (a cliche I know, but true).  Stop by and see 'em!

It's fun to be able to hang out like a local, and that's what we did hear.  Good music, good people, great people watching.  We never would have known about this place except for my husband's co-worker, whose family lives here.  Lucky to have been invited and hang out with some great people, thanks!

Since my first review of Oscar Store I have returned 3 times and those times I have had the wonderful opportunity to eat fabulous Texas style food. Now, the food in the grand scheme of things is not 5 star worthy but if you put it all in context this place gets a 5 all around. It's places like this that make me wish TX was my permanent residence and not just a place I happen to be for business.

If you want a taste of country, give Oscar's a try.  Oscar community is no more than a dot on the map.  The only business I saw was Oscar Store.   Note sure the history but you can tell it has been there awhile.  The store has been converted into a restaurant with great atmosphere.  The food was tasty with large portions.   I had the chicken fried chicken with corn on the cob and a baked potato.  I finished it off with homemade apple cobbler.  I left stuffed (but not complaining).

If you go on a weekend expect a wait unless you arrive early or late.  The wait is not bad - we sat outside under huge oak trees and chatted with friends.

Oscar Store is also known for live music and dancing under the stars on the weekends.

So, load up the gang and ride on over to Oscar - its worth it!

What a great place!  I have had many steak house steak that can't hold a candle to this $14 Rib Eye!  There is also $2 ice cold beer, live music on an outdoor stage.  Makes for a great evening out!  I can't wait to go back!
