The beer selection and service are pretty good, but the fish and chips were not. Â The batter was bland and so was the fish. Â This restaurant is usually closed when I try to patronize it (normal fucking business hours), but honestly, I don't know why I bother. Â The deck out back is great, but that isn't where we sat.
Review Source:I wasn't as impressed with Paddy Malone's as some of the other reviewers. Â
I typically am not a huge fan of Irish pubs because I enjoy a more varied beer selection than they usually offer (Guinness, Harp, Killian's and a couple of token non-"Irish" beers), but I actually didn't have a beer here, so I'll just be talking about the food.
I order the special steak, which was $13.75 for a 10oz sirloin. Â It was decent, but it wasn't cooked the way I asked. Â The mashed potatoes were also pretty good, but take them seriously when they tell you that they are horseradish mashed potatoes. Â The flavor really comes through.
My favorite part of the meal was the portabella mushroom fries we got as an appetizer. Â The breading on them was very reminiscent of onion ring batter, and they were delicious.
This is a seat yourself establishment. Â It isn't immediately obvious when you walk in (or maybe I somehow missed the sign?), and the staff were not particularly helpful in letting us know as they brushed passed us going here and there while we stood there looking obviously confused.
It's also in a pretty sweet location, right near the river in an old historic building.
Paddy Malone's is one of the few places in  Jeff city I hang out at. They sure know how to pour a wicked pint of Guiness and have some decent food. Philly steak sandwich here is really good. The patio is the best thing about the place. They have most Irish lagers and ales on tap which is cool. People seem to have fun on karaoke nights. The service is good most of the night. Jamie, Nate and Shane are friendly. The others can be moody sometimes but are quick to take care of you. I had a bad experience at Paddy's that made me take one star out. On St. Patrick's day, when the whole of Jeff city is at Paddy Malone's, I went there early when it was raining and got in. After a couple of drinks I wanted to get smokes from my car. I told the guy at the entrance of the patio the same thing. When I came back I was asked to enter through the front door where there was a line. I told one of the guys who works there, who had previously seen me inside, about the situation. He said he couldn't do anything about it. It had started raining. I got drenched, pissed and left. I was a regular at the place and felt bad to be treated like that. Just because you are the only Irish pub in a small town like Jeff city, it doesn't mean you can take people for granted.
Review Source:This was our first overnight stay in Jeff City and we wanted a place that we could walk to from our hotel. Â We arrived early enough to snag a table in the bar area. Â My 20 oz. Guinness was poured with care. Â My wife had a Boulevard IPA which I sampled. Â Nice complex of flavors. Â It had been a while since we had a burger so we each ordered their basic. Â They both arrived, cooked exactly as requested. Â An 8 oz. burger for $7.25 is a bargain. Â We couldn't resist splitting a side of tater tots. Â What a hoot! Â This is a real honest, friendly spot which I would go back to in a heartbeat.
Review Source:My wife and I love to go to Paddy's. A while back they made a decision to go Smoke Free inside and we have gone more frequently ever since. My wife loves Guiness and it seems to be so much better at Paddy's. I am getting hooked on KillKenny.....good stuff.
You have to try the fish and chip or the bangers and mash....both are top notch.
When I did my internship in Jefferson City, I was told that Paddy Malone is the Democrat bar, named so because of where all the Democrat legislatures go. I must say this is the place to go if you share the same philosphy of Democrats! The prices and food are not great, but they're ok. Emphasis is placed on the drinking and camaraderie.
Review Source:I went to Paddy Malone's for St. Patrick's Day. I don't know if regulars at an Irish pub really like the day their bar is flooded by people in tacky green beads, pins, and party hats. I knew enough not to ask for green beer or an Irish car bomb and the evening was actually really fun. The pub is more or less split into three different sections. You walk into the bar side with a few tables, to your left is another room with tables that looks like it sees more use for actual meals than just late night drinking. If you go all the way through to the back there is a covered patio where you can smoke if that's your thing.
It's advertised as the best Guinness around (apparently it is possible to ruin Guinness draft). I have to admit it was better than Guinness I've had from the bottle or can. They also had Killians and Harp on tap. They advertised Tuesdays as nights when more traditional Irish fare would be on the menu.
