I love the diversity of restaurants here in Orlando, Â You can find any kind of cuisine to suit your mood and we recently found a little gem in a tiny corner of a shopping strip in ChampionsGate, FL (Davenport).
A quaint and cozy little place, the Paris Express Café offers breakfast, lunch and dinner at any time of the day. The prices and selections vary from simple omelets to more elegant dinner entrees like Cordon Bleu or Beef Bourgouignon.
Though the dining space is very small, only a handful of tables, the space is inviting and romantic. Â It had a feel of an upscale restaurant with crystal glasses and fancy napkins on the table, but then I noticed plastic cartoonish placemats and a bowl of condiment ketchup and mustard packets. Â Hmmm, weird. Â Also missing was any type of an ambience, it would've been nice to have a little French music piping into the restaurant, but instead it was silent. Â Nothing. Â Not even a little peep, but not the worst thing in the world.
We saw a selection of crostini appetizers on the menu and we chose the Greek Baguettes (I know, not very French but at least they were served on baguettes). Â They even inspired me to make an entire crostini spread a few days later at home using the menu from Paris Express. Â They were good- but for $6.50, a little pricey for four small pieces.
However, I didn't leave hungry. I ordered the Pain Baguette and it was so huge I could only eat half of it and ended up with a great lunch the next day. My selection had tuna, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, lettuce and black olives served up on a fresh baguette. It was really good. A tuna nicoise salad on a bun. A great deal for $10 as it was basically two meals. It was served with a house salad and I am not sure what the vinaigrette flavor was, I just couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it was extraordinary. It was sweet and savory and the Chef wouldn't give up the secret! Argh!!
Chad ordered a Salmon Omelet- and for $9 it was a also very large. Â Served with breakfast potatoes and a pastry, it was just enough food to fill him happy. Â He really enjoyed having a tasty omelet at 7pm. Â Sometimes breakfast food makes the best dinner.
So we didn't partake in the higher end French dinner entrees but we really enjoyed what we did have. Â We had wanted something easy and quick after a long day on the road and Paris Express definitely hit the spot. Â Next time I am going for the crepes.
We were confused by the upscale menu paired with breakfast omelets and the beautiful crystal glasses didn't quite match the plate of fast food style ketchup packets on the table, but we loved this place.
When we entered, we were seated inside of the restaurant. We had ordered 2 florentine crepes and 1 vegetarian quiche. Very disappointed because the food was so bland! No seasoning used at all! The spinach in the crepe was bitter and the crepe was thick and soggy. The pastry on the quiche was completely raw and the eggs were not cooked. When we told the server that the pastry was raw, she explained that that is how it is supposed to be. I've never had a soggy quiche with a mushy pastry before. We left the restaurant without eating our own food. Never had to leave a restaurant without the food being edible.
Review Source:an excellent restaurant!! Â the staff and owners are great and very friendly. Â We stayed nearby in a house for 4 weeks and visited 6 times. Â The breakfast is excellent and a reasonable price for the quality of the food. Â Dinner was also a good bargain and excellent as well. Â I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. Â We really enjoy talking with the owner, who has only bee in the USA for 2+ years from France. Â Love the accent!! Â Will visit many times next year during our winter get away from the snow and cold of Minnesota.
Review Source:OMG!! Â I am soooo hooked. Â My brother and sister in law who is staying at the nearby Omni Resort told me to come down and have breakfast with them. Â It's a 10 min drive from Disney and so worth it. Â I never had French breakfast and pastries as good when we were in Paris! Â We are here a second time in 2 days and probably will end up coming back for the rest of our vacation. Â
Every thing is so delicious but especially the ratatoulle, the Apple Tatin, and everything else. Â Sadly, This place is very hidden and if you don't know about this place, you would never know that it is hidden on a corner of a strip mall.
I was there in December and just finally finishing my review. Â Months later, I'm still dreaming about the food. Â I can't understand any of the bad reviews. Â We eat at high high end restaurants all the time in NY and all the places we travel and the food here is fantastic. Â I really wish they would have this up in NY so I can go to it every day. Â I can't say enough good things about this place and the people that run this are so super friendly. Â I had better food here than when I was vacationing in Paris!! Â Just plan on ordering as much as you can - you won't regret it.
I came here for breakfast with my boyfriend and we were pleasantly surprised by the "diner-esque" menu (every item served all day). Â The restaurant was larger than we thought when looking at it from the outside but still cozy. Â The owner waited on us and was personable - she clearly wanted us to be returning customers. Â I got one of the best strawberry milkshakes I've ever had for only $4. Â Considering that's the same price as an OJ here, it's a steal!
The food was good - the presentation was beautiful. Â The owner obviously takes her food very seriously. Â It was authentic French (which I loved ...my boyfriend not quite as much) and I will definitely come back to try the creme brulee. Â
Why 4 stars instead of 5? Â The owner made a couple of comments about my sweet tooth (so I ordered a very sweet breakfast...) which made me feel just a little uncomfortable. Â Plus - my waffle left a lasting taste of egg in my mouth.
Excellent restaurant!
I have seen a few bad reviews so I thought its time for a "regular" to chime in. My fiancé and I have been coming here since they opened. There are not many restaurant choices in this area and it kills me to ever see the Italian place on the corner busier than Paris Express. The only reason for this is they have a corner building and Paris is at the other end all alone so people see the Italian first. The food at the Italian is average at best and service is terrible- just watch all the employees congregate outside smoking cigarettes in plain view- where's the management? Â
Paris Express is owned by to "real" French people. The food is fresh, cooked to order, and completely authentic. In fact it's better than most restaurants I ate at in Paris. The food is nothing unusual to the American palate...just look at their menu online- its HUGE. And the prices are very reasonable for such good quality food. I used to own a restaurant myself and sometimes I wonder how they are able to always have such fresh high quality ingredients while keeping such low prices! If you're lucky you'll have a chance to meet one of the owners. They are so kind and it's nice to always get such a friendly greeting. Â
Our favorites are ANY omelet (not greasy like most restaurants), and pastry (their croissants are perfect), cafe au lait, smoothies, the salmon salad (smoked salmon that is), French toast, curry chicken sandwich, and I could go on all day! Oh and they even have spaghetti Bolognese for you Italian lovers :-).
Overall we LOVE Paris Express and eat there very often! Enjoy :-)
Paris Express was recommended to the group I was in town with by the Omni hotel, which is just down the street. One of the members of our party had actually eaten there and thought it was a great idea. We had a part of 9 so we called ahead that morning to ensure we could sit down when we got there.
After ordering we were chit chatting and started to realize we'd been waiting for our food for quite a while. The waitress explained it was coming out soon. When the food did arrive, it was one plate every few minutes, not at the same time (which is completely forgivable in my mind). As we started to eat we realized almost every dish was not as we'd ordered.
Out of the 9 people in our group, 1 order was correct. Some of the mistakes were on things that were changed by us (say, asking for mozzarella cheese instead of Swiss) but most were issues of the food not being served as the menu explained it. One of my friends is a vegetarian and ordered a meal that did not have any meat listed in it's description. As she began to eat, she found chunks of ham in her meal! I ordered the vegetarian omelet, which was listed as including "julienne red and yellow bell peppers, portabella mushrooms, diced tomatoes, and diced red onions." When I received it, it included only mushrooms. Out waitress took the dishes back to bring out corrected versions but many were still incorrect the 2nd time we received them (the 2nd version of my omelet still only had mushrooms and tomatoes but I was hungry). A few of us had even planned to get pastries to take home and changed our minds once we realized they couldn't even make items as they were described on their own menu!
As we were finally finishing up, we asked to see a manager. Considering the fact that 8 out of 9 meals had to be re-made at least once, we were expecting some sort of discount on the food. When my friend explained the issue we were having to the manager, the owner of the restaurant said they were 1 person short in the back but that she could not give us a discount of any kind. My friend let her know, calmly and politely, that we would all be sharing our experience in any way possible if she couldn't have fix the problem. At that point, the owner raised her voice at my friend and at the waitress. She then informed us that she couldn't give us a discount because she "has a family to feed" and basically informed us that she didn't care who we told about our experience.
In the end, we paid full price for food that, in most cases, was never prepared quickly. The entire meal took over 2 hours. The prices are not particularly good (I paid $12 for a veggie omelet and a cup of hot tea) and certainly not worth the hassle.
Wow.
Quality, Kindness, and Value... Paris Express had all three.
The food was all amazing. The croissant, fresh out of the oven, was the closest we've found to ones we had in Paris by far!
The Eiffel Tower, a triple stack (we chose one crepe, one waffle, one pancake) was shared and loved by all. Fresh tasty jelly at the table topped all off well.
The omelet was cooked perfectly with ingredients well incorporated and not just thrown in like a pocket.
The Eggs Florentine was, well, delectable!
And all of this for about 10/person including the added on croissants.
We will definitely be back, totally worth the drive!
And next time saving room for chocolate mousse!
Food may have been good, we wouldn't know. Went for lunch tried using http://restaurant.com coupon electronically. Waitress checked presumably at owner who YELLED loud enough for everyone to hear that it needed to printed out. Alt no restaurant have I ever needed to do that, nor doesn't say that in the fine print. We live close enough to go there often and this was going to be our first experience. Â Let's get into the 21st century. We left, Â I will never return. Felt very sorry for the waitress. Glad to hear the food is good.
Review Source:I was staying at the Omni Resort just a minute down the street and had no desire to pay $20 for a buffet so we found Paris Express. Â My 12yr old and I thought we would try something different.
Just down the street... almost walking distance if you liked long walks, we stopped in. Â We were the only people in there on a Saturday morning. Â It is cute inside. Â You can also eat outside on tables or even order to go. Â We were seated in a comfy purple booth and given a good sized menu. Â
I had a bit of trouble picking what i wanted... salmon and eggs, crepes, egg sandwich, so many choices all reasonably priced. Â I settled on eggs florentine. Â My daughter got eggs and bacon.
when it came out it looked wonderful. Â Eggs were done perfectly, spinach was good, cream sauce could have used a bit more seasoning but i always prefer it to have less salt than to much. Â It was all served on top of a baguette that was very fresh. Â It came with a side and i had choose fresh fruit. Â Fruit was canned and that was disappointing would have liked to seen some fresh chopped fruit (grapes, pineapple, slice of grapefruit). Â My daughters looked good as well. Â Scrambled eggs and bacon and cheese on top of a toasted croissant and a side of potatoes (aka hash browns). Â She really liked hers as well.
Coffee was very good and strong.. expect a French version of coffee not a large american cup. Â My decafe came in a small espresso cup, no complaints, it was good coffee. Â My daughter had OJ and it was fresh squeezed, a nice treat when traveling to Florida.
Skip IHOP, Dennys and all the other chains, support local small business. Â It was far a real treat. Â I hope to get the chance to go back for lunch or dinner. Â Good food, great service in a beautiful cafe.
the interior of the place is cute and cozy. Purple booths cute placemats nothing fancy but not plain. I ordered a cup of coffee and the mug was chipped. $2 Later I ordered a vegetable omelette around $8 which came with hash browns and a side of turkey bacon. Bacon was very good, when it came out but come to find out it was not turkey.
The hash browns were below par, the Omelette was okay. nothing to write home about but okay. I have had better at IHOP. I also ordered orange juice although it was a bit warm ( $4) it was fresh squeezed. It was tasty. I ordered another side of turkey bacon and then I discovered my first order I was not turkey when it came out and looked totally different. In between, my server would refill my coffee but then I would have to ask for cream or sugar again. I also had to ask for catsup for hash browns, then instead of asking how many packets I want only brings 2 over. When he brought the bacon the second time and I told him of the error, he was not apologetic. I do not think he understood English well as he spoke French. Additionally, I was disappointed, it didn't come with a croissant or anything. Total of the bill $19. Food was just okay, service was below par, I would not eat there again for the cost, most likely. Honestly, IHOP or cracker barrel is better. From reading other posts, maybe I should have tried the crepe or quiche. I was disappointed.
Very pleasant surprise in the Championsgate area. Â Went here for breakfast today and had a very nice meal. Â If you're familiar with the area, you know your breakfast options are usually limited to something mediocre and fast-foodish.
I had some fresh orange juice (actually fresh, which is too rare for an area surrounded by orange groves) and the wife had some espresso. Â Both options were tasty.
For our meals, I ordered the crepe Provencal and my wife ordered the eggs benedict. Â We both enjoyed our meals quite a bit. Â The crepe was a little thick, probably to hold all the vegetables and sauce in it. Â Very filling and delicious. Â My wife loved her eggs benedict and noted they poached the egg perfectly.
Service was a little slow but they did have a party of 12 ahead of us. Â They apologized and were very polite throughout the entire meal.
Overall, I'm incredibly happy to have a breakfast place worth the visit nearby.
Went in for breakfast and there is a wide array of items to choose from. I got the quiche with the Paris Express potatoes and couldn't finish it all. It was very well priced for what I got. The only quirk was the interior of the restaurant looking kind of unfinished but maybe that's what they are going for. I will definitely go back again!
