I really like this place, my wife and I go here once a month or so to sit down on the way home from work or from running errands and usually grab a burger some some happy hour half price appetizers. Â The selection is good and it's all american food, I think there might be some tex mex but mostly country fried steak / burgers / fish / etc... Â
I typically get a bleu cheese burger and the wife gets a chicken fried steak, they are pretty yummy and I'm only not giving it 5 stars because I've had better at other places.
The waitress got my order wrong and gave me a real burger instead of the veggie patty I asked for, but she was still a phenomenal server: so friendly and always keeping an eye out to see if we needed anything. I'm not usually a fan of veggie burgers, but this one was actually really good. I love the unique decor. I'll definitely come back!
Review Source:I was really pleased with my recent trip to Patsy's Cafe. I have eat then chicken fried steak from here more than a handful of times, but always been picked up and brought to work. Never had the pleasure of actually dining inside until recently.
We walked in to a full blown concert going on, the baby sound asleep woke up to a nice drum riff going on. The lady who sat us said we could sit in back in a quieter section and I opted for right next to the stage. Have to get the little ones trained early, ACL is going to creep up on us fast lol. Sat, looked at menu, jammed out, sat, waited, and waited. lol Only real gripe I had was it took a little long to get our orders going, the place wasn't super slammed, but it did look like they might have been short handed. I saw, what I believe to be the cook, bring out most food orders. Not really a big deal as we didn't mind sitting and watching the band. Finally got our orders in, me being creature of habit opted for the Chicken Fried steak, youngin had a burger, and the wife had fish sandwich or burger, something like that.
One thing to keep in mind here, and it has been said before, the portions are BIG! Even the kids burger is a good size burger, and for the price, can't beat it. Will say desert stole the show though, the chocolate peanut butter pie is heaven in a slice! SOOOOOOOOOOO good lol must order, and don't make the mistake I made and share it haha
All in all everything was good, I am glad we had a chance to come and see a live band. I know the 4 year old loved it as he air plays the guitar and drums daily as he does his dance moves around the house lol. Prices are very reasonable and the food was good. One problem I run into going to dinner with a hyper 4 year old is having him stay calm, here with the loud band, doesn't matter he can talk and yap all he wants and the sweet music drowns him out lol. We definitely will put this into our family dinner rotation.
(For those who don't read long reviews: Bottom line, GO)
After the lukewarm reviews about this place, I wasn't expecting much. But being stuck near, but not in, the airport, Patsy's stood out as real food in a landscape of fry grills. And it was a happy choice.
The restaurant decor is like the daughters of Austin whom the food is named after - showing it's age a little, but people don't hold it against them since they are the real deal. Â The food, too, is substantial and with local flavor - jalpenos and guac for example. Â It's maybe a little more pricey than you'd expect to pay in a little dive, but that isn't keeping anyone away - the two small dirt parking lots are packed with regulars. Service is quick and friendly.
It's a reasonable choice for a place to bring guests who have stepped off the 'plane hungry - Welcome to Austin. We've got country roots. Â I'll be happy to eat there again when I'm in the area, but I would not drive across town to eat at Patsy's. There are too many other great restaurants in town.
disclaimer: I didn't try any of the deserts, which might have juiced my score a bit.
You know you're in the country when you can't order something on the menu for the sole reason that it has an embarrassing name. In the country, men eat men food and the women folk get something like a "Cowgirl Fish Taco". And almost all of their sandwiches are named after some famous Texan chick (or Kinky F.)
So, what, exactly is a restaurant worth if a guy can't order half the stuff on the menu?
Patsy's isn't the best burger place either. In fact, their burger taste like a Whopper. Thin and flame broiled and not that hearty or tasty. I would have expected more from a comfort food joint: even one named after a bleeding heart country singer from the 50s. Fries were salty and had that "twice fried" like vibe that Hyde Park Bar N Grille made famous.
To be sure, Southern comfort food, like chicken fried chicken, abounds at Patsy's. That's a menu item that deserve's it's etymological study. Do chickens fry other chickens? Should I feel good about that or fear the dawn of the revolution? Â I should have just manned up and gotten it. Those who did seemed quite satisfied.
At the end of the day, I can only seriously dock this place for the burger and for my own insecurities, I suppose...Go ahead and get your cheatin' heart some some chicken fried satisfaction. Then get back to Hoover's.
Maybe ever 4.5 stars. The breading on the REAL chicken fried steak was flavorful and not just flour without flavor. It had a crunch, which means that it was fresh and not soggy. The gravy also had flavor and was not just flour and water.
Mashed potatoes were good. Green beans had extra spice on them and were good. Corn bread tasted good. Wish we had more. My brisket tasted good and I will recommend it to anyone who likes meat. The portion was a little small, though.
We liked the bucket sinks in the restrooms. The place was tastefully furnished with a hill country rustic motif. All kinds of things on the ceiling and the light fixture were in some kind of buckets. Also books along the wall just below the ceiling.
I loved the music. It was 1960's rock and roll with a good choice of songs. Not ones that have been overplayed on oldies stations.
The waitress was helpful and attentive. Service was quicker than average.
Prices were average.
Also like the location, which is convenient to where I work in South Austin and it is near I-35.
Dining here would be a good choice as it compares favorably to similar restaurants.
Patsy's is such a fun Texan spot. I would love to bring out-of-towners here that get a kick out of western atmosphere and awesome food.
My boyfriend and I shared a burger and The Kay Bailey Hutchison. The burger was great, but the Kay Bailey is why I'll go back. AMAZING SANDWICH. The chipotle cream sauce is wonderful, and the fish is fried lightly and perfectly. Seriously, this sandwich might be one of my favorites in all of Austin. I'd venture that the fish platter is similarly amazing.
I almost didn't want to admit it and almost got through the review, but I just must tell you. We did get the Cowgirl Queso too. Queso with guacamole & brisket in it? Wow. I was impressed that the brisket wasn't greasy or dry, just perfect. This queso gives Kerbey Lane a run for it's money as my fave in Austin.
Our server was also super nice & made the experience that much more enjoyable.
I drove by this place a dozen or more times when I live in South Austin so I decided to stop in for Happy Hour with my social group - we had a great time, food was good - nothing really to write home about - they had a band that started at 6:30pm - band was pretty good.
Staff was friendly, outgoing and helpful.
Reason for only 4 stars is that parking SUCKS and the parking lot really needs to be re-done - lots of pot holes.
Love Patsy's. It is always packed at lunch so I am not alone. Burgers and sandwiches are great - the Sandra Bullock is a major favorite. Fries and onion rings are always crispy and good. The chicken-fried Portabella is crazy good. Pecan chicken also a winner and you can get it on a huge delicious salad. Never had a bad meal there and go pretty often.
The waitstaff is hit (big hit) or miss (big miss). Several of the servers have been there forever and they are fantastic - quick, efficient, and always get it right. The newbies need to take some lessons. Hostess quality also depends on who you get, but all of that is worth it in the end.
Prices are good. Easy to get in and out in a lunch hour. Portions are generous. Will continue to frequent Patsy's!!
After my one hour training class turned into three hours, the trainees felt bad for me and took me to lunch.
A short drive from their office was Patsy's. Their parking lot is in desparate need of repair and laid out ackwardly. So beware of the pot holes. The vib was without a doubt western, inside and out. If the weather was nicer, I would have opted for sitting on the patio.
I guess they keep the lighting dark so you don't see it needs updating and cleaning. Â We were seated at a booth which was a bit cramped. Our waitress was pleasant. I didn't catch her name even tho she said it twice. It seemed when she said her name the Jukebox played louder at that moment.
Most of the party had burgers. I went for the Liz Carpenter (BLT). It was only a short wait for the food. The BLT wasn't bad. Bacon crunchy, Lettuce and tomato fresh, not too much mayo, and the wheat was toasted just right. The fries were okay nothing special.
Don't think I'll ever make it back here and that's okay by me. Their prices are very reasonable.
Patsy's is a warehouse district comfort food cafe located....surprise!....smack dab in the middle of "industrial" Austin on Hwy 71 just west of Montopolis. Â Most Austinites would say it's "out there" because there are few houses around and it's on the way to the airport. Don't let that stop you because it's really not far at all, 1-1.5 mi E of I-35 and Ben White.
I work out that way and stop in for lunch about twice a month. Â During the classic lunch hour, the small parking lot out front can actually hold quite a few cars, and patrons creatively fill it to the edges before heading around back for the last 8 or so parking spots. Â After that, you can use the side of the adjacent road. Â Ta-Da! Take home message - Patsy's is popular for lunch. Â And why not? She offers a variety of dishes chickenfeed stricken, burgers - specialty and build your own ($7-10), the usual fried appetizers, soups, salads, a big sandwich lineup ($8-10), a Mexican dish or two, and other comfort dishes ($10-13).
I'd bet that many of the regular lunchers have found some items on the menu that they really like, and they order those dishes most often. Â Another group probably goes for the daily lunch specials. Â That could be chicken and dumplings, some sort of roast, or stew, or a special comfort dish. Â
I've never been much for packing in a plate of heavy food at lunch. Â Plus, I'm watching my figure so I eat salads, and when I don't have a salad I'm eating whatever I crave that day. Â For salad, I go with the chicken salad - a mixed green/romaine mix with grilled or fried chicken on top. I get grilled. Â It's a large piece of sliced, grilled chicken. Â The salad itself is big and has various vegetable toppings. Â Nothing fancy, but a decent size so it's filling and with flavorful chicken. Bleu cheese dressing is above average for a cafe with chunks of bleu cheese. Â In the sandwich department, I'm eating my personal favorite sandwich - the Greater Tuna Melt - big and fat with lots of grilled onions on a toasty rye bread, or a Kinky Friedman Reuben. Â Sandwiches come with fries or homemade chips. Â I prefer my potatoes in the chip format when they're good and Patsy's has some good 'uns. Â
Because, I'm usually eating alone, I'm a babysitter at lunch. Â Service is always better at a bar. Â I haven't had anything bad here, my service has been average, and food comes out reasonably quickly. Â The bar itself is small - about eight seats. Â Drink choices include liquor, draft and bottle beers, and wine - each category having some Texas-made choices. Â $2 pints of ZiegenBock at least at lunchtime. Â The bar picks up a little bit at happy hour, and I haven't stayed beyond that. Â They have one TV near the bar, off to the side in somewhat an awkward spot. Â
Also, Patsy's does a pretty brisk take out business at lunch time.
So a sizeable group of local lunch diners, including myself, have found some comfort at Patsy's. Â I probably wouldn't head out there for dinner as there are equal and better choices near my home. Â If you haven't been there, try it. Â For lunch or dinner.
This cute little Texas café has lots of western flare oozing throughout the ambiance. It's everything that embodies this great state and even more fabulous city. Quaint establishment, charming decor, friendly service and great comfort food. Austinites and guest alike will appreciate all of the names of the sandwiches as they pay patron to famous Austinites & Texans. Definitely try the fish sandwich, tacos, or fish platter, because whatever is in the chipotle cilantro cream sauce will have you dancing in your boots and tossing your cowboy hat in the air! Since this place is right by the airport make sure to take your out of town guest there as an introduction to Austin. Who knows, they just might fall in love with Patsy like I did. Welcome to ACL!
Review Source:I checked out Pasty's Cafe on a weekend evening. I know it seems like more of a music venue (the band was quite good), but I mean... the food was just straight up not good. Not acceptable. It was not horrendous, but if you are going to have not-that-good-grub, you might as well just be a music venue. Austin will still accept you.
The menu is fairly standard. It looks fairly unassuming until you realize that the grub is just bad. At least pricing is not terrible.
salty sloppy The chicken tortilla soup was salty, sloppy, and there was an excessive amount of rice underneath. An attempt to give the soup depth, I assume?
The meatloaf was extremely bland and possessed an unappealing soggy texture. It was far too sweet.
The trio of dips sucked, as well. The salsa was one of the poorest seasoned tomato purees that i have placed on my fried tortillas. The guacamole was bland. The queso was a little too chunky, and usually that weird film on top is OK...but here, it was a bit too thick.
Yikes.
Being one of only a handful of places close to work, I decided to have lunch at Patsy's. I have been here a couple of other times but its been a while.
I started with some chips and queso, yes I ordered chips & queso here, I can't help myself. I probably wouldn't order it again though because it tasted a lot like Velveeta, it was small and I had to pay for the chips too. My meal came with a house salad and I had the house vinaigrette. I am not a salad person so I didn't eat much of it. What I did eat was ok. The dressing was not bad but I put to much on the salad.
My chicken fried steak was the best part of the meal. The meat is tasty and the gravy was good too. All other things considered this is one of the best chicken fried steaks I have had. Sad thing is, the mashed potatoes were bland, I had to add lots of salt and pepper for them to taste better. The vegetables were squash and zucchini. I don't like most vegetables no matter who makes them or how they make them so I can't comment on that part of the meal because I didn't eat it. I did try to eat the jalapeno corn bread but it was dry so I didn't have that either. My sweet tea was good.......
Seeing as how I didn't eat much more then the CFS I ordered dessert. I got the buttermilk pie. This was soooo good until I got to the top crust part. It was salty, almost ruined the whole thing. It didn't because the pie was so good. I would go back just for the pie.
Patsy's has a bar, outside seating and a playground. My waitress was nice they play old country music. The parking lot is small in front but there is also some parking in the back. I can't see me going back for dinner because its out of the way unless I am at work. Then again, they don't have a lunch menu so I paid more for lunch then I wanted to and I don't like doing that.
I really should not be reviewing this place. Â The restaurant feels like it should be in Austin in the mid 90s, just before the http://dot.com boom and bust. Everyone seems happy to be meeting the people they are meeting and, yes, the crowd is really diverse. Â But why review the customers!
The real reason you should go is for the Molly Ivins burger. Â I don't know why their particular green chile and cheddar is simply magnificent. Â My partner and I usually try not to order the same thing at a restaurant. Patsy's is our exception. Otherwise one of us always leaves disappointed. The drinks are reasonable (Ok, cheap) and the playground is awesome.
Yelpers, please don't take our trip to laidback 90s Austin away.
A 2-Star rating on yelp is defined as "Meh. I've experienced better," and honestly, I wish I could split my rating, into a couple of different categories, but alas, I can't.
Service isn't the greatest, isn't the worst; food isn't the greatest, isn't the worst.
Run of the mill, overall. . .Chicken fried steak is solid, but the sides are typically overcooked, flavorless, watery veggies. . .Again, not the worst, but certainly not the best. . .
We usually stop by, watch local bands, which again, are sometimes pretty darn good, sometimes, are pretty painful to watch (in a "I'd like to thank my whole extended family for being here, because they're the only ones who think we have talent and have encouraged us to get out of the garage and perform live, but all of them have tin ears, Â and are just remembering the once upon a time glory days of the school talent show" type of embarrassing painful kind of way). We've seen some up and comers in the Austin music scene, and for free, so who can complain?
What brings us back to Patsy's, again, and again, is their key lime pie, pecan pie, and buttermilk pie. If I could rate Patsy's on their pies, ONLY, then this review would easily be a 5 star, however, woman does not live by pie alone.
I literally work about a couple hundred yards from Patsy's and I will not allow myself to eat there any more. The convenience just is not worth the shitty service and the state my stomach is in after each and every meal.
The last time I was in, I didn't even eat there. I stood in the doorway for a good minute and a half, not one employee acknowledging my presence.
Today i went to independence brewery and sweat off about 45 gallons of water. Â So we decided to stop by Patsy's and have a cold one. The good news is that I've been wanting to go there based on the name alone for a while. The bad news is that it was not what the cowgirl ordered. Har. har.
At least there was air conditioning and cold water. My salad was lackluster, blue cheese dressing tasted off and was watery, the bloody mary (which granted, i asked for "from scratch") was basically tomato juice with a salt rim and the crackers served with salad were stale.
The nachos my friend got looked awesome but hell, they're nachos, hard to screw up, and the stella cowgirl drink was bright pink and so sweet we dumped it in the half full water glass to make it palatable. Save the trip. There's a reason this place is empty at dinner time on Saturday.
What a disappointment. Â What's NOT disappointing is that I'd never even heard of this place before I ate there on Wednesday. Â And even less disappointing is the fact that I'll never eat at Patsy's again.
A few gals and I volunteered for a couple of hours at Safeplace, and our leader suggested eating at Patsy's afterward. Â I was surprised to see how close it was to Catfish Parlor. Â I've eaten at that Catfish Parlor, but I never noticed Patsy's.
Parking was a bitch, but that's what happens when you go to lunch at noon. Â There were four of us, each in our own car, and three of us ended up making our own parking spaces.
Okay, so I ordered the chicken fried chicken, which came with grilled veggies and mashed potatoes, as well as a small dinner salad with homemade Thousand Island dressing. Â I have to say, the dressing was very good, but there was no cheese on my salad, which disappointed me. Â I also got a slice of jalapeno cornbread which wasn't too bad.
Here's where things got ugly. Â Once our server took our order, she didn't come back to our table until we'd finished our meals. Â She didn't check on us, nothing. Â And the food... Â ick! Â My entree looked decent, but it tasted really fake, like Chicken McNuggets fake. Â Normally when I cut into a chicken breast, chicken will flake off from the breast into threads. Â That didn't happen with Patsy's chicken. Â It was one solid mass of school-lunch chicken. Â Sysco chicken. Â And it didn't even really taste like chicken; it unfortunately tasted more like rubber. Â The gravy was subpar, too. Â And the mashed potatoes? Â They tasted like... get ready... Pepto-Bismol. Â No joke. Â Pepto-Abysmal, more like. Â
Speaking of Pepto-Bismol, I wished a couple of hours later that I had some, as Patsy's food gave me the stomach upset. Â It's a good thing I didn't have to be anywhere for a few hours. Â You can't expect to do that to me and get more than one star.
If Dale Evans and Roy Rogers took the stage at Patsy's and sang "Happy Trails", it'd go more like this:
Unhappy entrails to you, until we meet again.
Unhappy entrails to you, keep shittin' until then.
Who cares about good quality when we're serving?
Just know your health is undeserving.
Some entrails are happy ones;
Others are blue.
It's the way we treat your entrails that counts,
So your entrails are screwed.
It's all OK but not great. Â If you are going to listen to music, have a few drinks, and eat...well...the food may taste better.
I had a margarita (yuck) and a Mexican Martini (yuck).
All the food seems to come prepackaged..not fresh. Â My salad was all brown and wilted. Â Ew. Â The only good thing we had was a piece of Key Lime Pie. Â I would go back for music...but will spend the money elsewhere.
I have passed this place more times than I can count and have always been distracted by the decor outside and finally walked inside this past week.
Ironically enough, I was eating here in order to avoid the bbq buffet we were having at work. Â That is one thing I cannot get into in this great state. I guess I lived too long in Colorado where when one heard the word they thought about burgers and other meats on the grill. Â I just don't like sausage all that much and have no desire to eat something named ribs. Â I hate hate hate potato salad and am not too keen on baked beans. Â
However, I love bbq sauce especially with melted cheese and found it in The Cactus Pryor. Â Barbequed chicked, a bbq sauce with a bit of bite and cheese on a bun. Â I enjoyed it. Â My ex mother in law ordered the chicken salad and was a bit shocked on its size but then she is from the Phillipines and thinks Americans eat way too much anyway (aka we're fat).
It was pretty good and I would probably go back especially since it is right down the street from work and I fear another bbq buffet is coming to work again. Â Can I put in a request for tacos?
Patsy's is a fun place to go and have a beer. Â They have a nice little patio overlooking the parking lot, with Ben White in the distance. Â They also have reasonably nice waitresses. They are casual and you can have a large party in there and move chairs and tables around which is also nice. Â They have a good-sized stage and folks will come and play in the evenings. Â I've heard some good musicians here (and bad).
Their food, as mentioned by many reviewers, is meh, however. Â You can tell they cook with a lot of pre-packaged items. The salad fixings come straight out of a bag. Â The appetizers are all fried or chips. Â People like the chicken fried steak, though, which is enormous. Â I can't bring myself to eat it, but that's what I've heard. I've had the fish tacos and those are ok. Â Nice place to just hang out, but not an eating destination.
If there has EVER been a time to go drink a cool beer & nosh on a DELICIOUS sandwich named the SANDRA BULLOCK...it's NOW. Â It's got more bacon in it than Jesse James is ever going to see walk through his doors ever again! Â Tasty, tried, and true!
I am a huge advocate of Patsy's Cowgirl Cafe. Â An incredibly reasonably priced restaurant that has supported the strong, outspoken, southern woman since the day they opened their doors.
The Good: The Texas kitch is colorful and fun. The bands were amateur but sincere and entertaining. We were seated quickly near the stage. The atmosphere is friendly and fairly quaint. My daughter was able to get up and dance to her hearts content with nothing but smiles.
The Bad: The food was average at best and their Margarita is a no-no. Total pre-mix sludge with little to no tequila. Frozens were not an option. We started with the "Two 'fer" - chips with salsa and queso. The salsa was tasteless and the dip portions were small. It was a waste of money. For the meal, I ordered the special- Â Fish n' Chips. It was edible but greasy and pretty bland. My husband ordered the Willie Nelson patty melt. It was dry and very greasy. We both could barely drink enough water to re-hydrate ourselves afterwards.
The Ugly: The menu is tiny and 99% fat. Everything is breaded and fried and served with a side of fried starch. I realize that's not always a bad thing but in this case it was. Totally not worth the calories and fat!
I've been there a few times before. Usually the service is fast.
I was really disappointed with my recent visit last week. They used to have Tuesday and Wednesday deals like 1/2 off burgers. When my group came in, we stood around and was ignored by the hostess. Eventually one of my friends asked her if we're supposed to find our own seating. She didn't say anything, but did grab menus and walked us to a booth.
For food, one of my friends ordered the Shiner chicken and it took forever for it to come out. (would have been nice to get a warning since I was late for my other plans.)
They offer chips, fries, or onion rings (rings are extra) as a side for most of their sandwiches and burgers. I love their homemade chips. Their fries aren't too special. Onion rings are ok.
My friend and I decided to stop here a grab a bite to eat before heading to the airport. The decor was fun, cowgirl style-not my thing, but I enjoyed it just as much. Our waitress was a fast talker and kind of jittery---lay of the speed lady.
I ordered the chicken fried portabella dinner, which came with 3 chicken fried portabella mushrooms, mashed potatoes, steam veggies, gravy and a slice or corn bread and a side salad. This is the first time I've eaten chicken fried anything and it was pretty good. The portion size was good- I know all that sounds like a lot of food, but it was a fair amount.
My friend got the Sandra Bullock, which is basically just a club sandwich...that she was not impressed by at all. She liked my food better.
I could see how this place could be a hit and miss type of spot, it was alright. Wouldn't be a first choice place if I were in the area.
Was in the burger kinda mood and opted to check out Patsy's Cowgirl Cafe. Â Since Carla S. says she's ready to marry the Don Walser Burger, I figured it would be worth a trip to the chapel. Â
The location isn't that great, right off the Montopolis exit on Hwy 71, and you could easily miss it. Â When you pull in it seems like no one is there. Â The decor is like a dive bar, reminds me of a place you'd run into driving on a roadtrip through west TX or the desolate AZ areas. Â There's also a stage with an occasional live performer - tonight it was a guy w/ a girl and his guitar singing country tunes - not too shabby.
A great selection of burgers: Â The Don Walser (Carla S's fav) has sauteed mushrooms, bacon and swiss cheese. Â The John Kelso has jalapeno jack cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, and Patsy's spicy green chile sauce. Â Homemade chips or fries comes with them, I tried both - the chips are okay for a change of pace (Third Base's chips are a notch better), and the fries were thinly cut and piping hot (very good).
I got The Don and it was pretty damn good, not interested in marrying it, but I would definitely court it for a while. Good charbroiled flavor with grill marks, and fresh quality condiments on a sesame seed bun. The burger is your typical uniformed flat patty, nothing special, I'm sure it comes already prepared or frozen in a box, but it still tasted pretty good. Not the best burger I've had but way better than the dried up / salty "Fats Domino" burger I had at Hut's last week. My friend had The Kelso, it had some nice strips of bacon and plenty of cheese The burger patty at The Jackalope is actually better, but they don't dress their burgers nearly as good as Patty's does. Too bad we can't combine them both and have one helluva beefcake party. Â
So why is it only 3.5 stars? First off - I noticed the menu prices were $1 more than the website. I asked why? (thinking they just raised prices or forgot to update it) - they said all prices go up $1 after 5pm (huh?). Same food? (I asked), yeah, same food, but it's $1 more. Sorry - I don't get that one - and it should have been posted on their website. And do not order the chips and salsa - they were horrible. Chips were stale, and the salsa (which is homemade) is extremely bland and lacking in taste. They also have a table hot sauce that's homemade - it looked good but was also extremely bland. The service was good, down to business, but not over the top with that nice cowgirl southern hospitality and smile that just makes you giddy all over.
My friends got the pecan pie and chocolate cake, both of which had no complaints. Â The pecan, key lime, and Italian cheese cake are made in-house while the chocolate cake comes from a local bakery. Â They're all $4.95 a pop. Â
This was a week night, we were there until close (9pm), about 6 people total came in for dinner. Â They have 1/2 off burgers every Tuesday after 5pm (dine on only) which is a pretty good deal (even w/ the $1 dinner upcharge) so if you're looking to try something different than a Hut's or BK or Mickey D's, give Patsy's a shot. Â Even though it's 3.5 stars I would definitely go back - for The Don or The Kelso for sure.
Went here for a business lunch with some contractors. It was close by and they said the food was good.
I had a fish taco and I wasn't all that impressed. I'm used to having grilled fish in my fish tacos, but Patsy's serves them fried. It was different, but I much rather prefer the somewhat healthier option. After all, you only taste batter when you deep fry it like a fish stick.
If I ever come back I'll make sure to try a salad or burger instead.
Patsy's deserves four stars for the amusing waitstaff ("Lemme show you my husband's nuts!"), cute decor and the owners obvious love of Texans. If you haven't been there, everything on the menu is named after a famous Texan.
That said, the food was decent. While the homemade chips were a little to heavy for me on this particular visit (my dining companions went to town on them), they were delicious and very substantial. My burger was cooked just right and the fries were light and airy.
The highlight was dining with my crazy coworkers (we are all in construction and are working on a project in Del Valle) and having the waitress produce a condom from an acorn nut. WHAT?!? That's right, you heard me!
Long live Patsy's!
So I think I just ate a Shaq shoe size 23 hand breaded chicken fried steak. Why didn't somebody go dog whisperer on me and "shhht" my neck or something? For that alone; Patsy's hits the mark with this country boy. The portion should have fed me for several days and well worth the $10 price tag.
We arrived just after the lunch rush so service was decent as the food arrived promptly after our order was taken. My Mom's Sandy Bullock and fries were A-OK by her and Rooster gobbled up a side of mashed potatoes and my roll.
My mixed vegetables were awesome and thankfully not out of a frozen bag. The onion rings were good; but I'm skeptical about the made in house claim. My side salad even made the grade with the blue cheese dressing
The overall feel of the place is South Austin. The patio looks cool as does the play ground for the kiddos. We didn't venture out there to far today as the rain had turned the play area into a lake. No life preservers were used during the review of this restaurant.
Not bad Yelpers; but next time I'm gonna try and pace myself. I had never been to PCC until today and I must say I will be back after my meat coma is over.
Had a very disappointing lunch at Patsy's today. We were a party of six, and though we are used to the slowish service when there are ten or so gathered, today's snail-on-the-bottom-of-the-aquarium pace was inexcusable. Our appetizers were chilly, and what's worse than cold queso, except soggy, greasy onion rings (which are usually just the opposite).
That's the last $15.00 tuna melt for me (sammich + ringers + tea + tip). Although we Del Valle edumacators don't have much choice when it comes to those rare days we get to leave for lunch, methinks my hard earned dollars, not to mention valuable time, will best be served at the local Sonic.
I have now been here 5 times. Â I want to marry the "Don Walser" burger. Â It is ridiculously good. Â You know how you really know it's good? Â Besides the fact I just told you. Â I have had it to go twice now, and love it every bit as much.
PLUS. I call the order "it will be ready in 10 min". Â And it was. Â
STELLAR (I'm helping you bring the word back, Jess)
Maybe because I haven't gone to restaurants in Austin much, I had a better experience than other reviewers. Â The waitress that attended us was funny, and hitting on one of us who was a regular there. Â The interior has lots of cowgirl-themed paintings on the wall, and I was amused with their cartoon-like description. Â
I ordered BBQ sandwich (called Patsy's Pollo). Â The taste was OK, and because the sauce got soaked into the bun so much, the sandwich was falling apart by the end. Â Yeah, if not for the non-food elements that I enjoyed, I might've given this place 2 stars. Â Thankfully the restaurant was close to the customer that I was visiting, so the convenience factor also needs to be included.
If only Nana were still alive I'd know where to take her on a Sat. night (actually, Nana was not a country-western fan, but you get the idea).
My friend and I thought we were heading for a honky-tonk (and I was actually ready for this), alas, the play-scape should have tipped us off that this is a "family" place. Â Personally, I'm not into family.
Enough with my dashed hopes. Â Patsy's serves strong drinks, good hamburgers and offers live music and dancing for those over 50 or under 12. Â This is just the kind of place my father would have taken me for dancing to make me feel like a grown-up. Â Decor is cutesy and not too authentic looking, but the people at Patsy's are sweet as pie and have a true love for old-time country music. Â
So pardner, next time you feel a hankerin' for a good burger, strong drink (who doesn't?) and Patsy Cline in the background, stop by. Â Just don't expect to mingle with those under 50 (unless they are the grandchildren of the 50+ crowd).
Patsy's is located among all the warehouses and commercial truck rental businesses off of East Ben White (on the way to the airport). Â I believe that location was formerly occupied by a playscape store; in fact, there's still a playscape on the premises if you've got some kiddies who need to burn off their sugar rush.
The cafe itself is decorated with Western style paraphernalia -- there are tumbleweeds hanging from the ceiling, old wagon wheels on the wall, and a huge mural of a cowgirl riding a giant jackelope sits behind the sound stage. Â They must've been having some problems with the kitchen ventilation system because the entire restaurant was smokey as hell. Â Blech.
Each of their menu items have some reference to an Austin icon -- the Willie Nelson burger, Kinky Friedman sandwich, Ann Richard's Hoagie, etc. Â For my lunch visit, I had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Â I was kind of disappointed that the veggies were three shriveled up stalks of asparagus, but the chicken wasn't bad. Â Also disappointing, the chips + salsa. Â I think I found their recipe: Â take some tomatoes and onions, blend til watery, and you get Patsy's salsa. Â We ended up mixing in half a bottle of Cholula hot sauce. Â Despite the mediocre food, I'll have give them another shot and maybe try a burger next time.
Service-wise, our waitress was having a "bad case of the mondays" and was slow getting our food and checks. Â Our side salads came AFTER our meal arrived, we had to wait 10 minutes for ketchup, dessert took forever even though it was just sitting saran-wrapped in the front cooler, AND she wore this goofy rastaman "Rerun" beret.
Ambience = decent
Food = meh
Service = nuh uh
Oh BTW, a couple of the regulars at Esther's Follies (Patsy) own the restaurant, and you'll see them working behind the bar or even serving the food.
