Being a "Jerry," Paul & Jerrys Saloon has always held a special place in my heart as I pretended to be that partner sitting at the bar slurping down a few brews. Yeah. I knew it wasn't me, but, hey!, it was so much fun to make believe.

As noted, the place is dark and somber, and one needs a strong jolt of imagination to picture what it was like in 1910, when the dust from the mines on Mt. Mingus drove workers to P & J's to wet their whistle and wash down the choking grit that wrapped around town like a smog blanket.

These days of faded glory, you just stop in for a few cold 'uns while wandering through the shops and galleries that have resurrected Jerome in recent decades.  Go play Ms Pacman, or shoot the sh*t with one of the barkeeps; then head up to the Haunted Hamburger to balance out the alcohol with good grub, or down town to the Flatiron Cafe if you can't take the altitude or prefer a brighter, fresher venue for a meal.

Whether you're high or low, it is all good, my friends.

PS. I am wearing my Paul and Jerrys T shirt today.

I stopped in the for the history, but this place has nothing going for it. It's plain and after you move past the initial 10 minute excitement that youre in an old salon - it's boring. No food means its hard to stay. I like to snack while I drink. No live music, jute box in the corner. There's a couple ratty pool tables and a ms pacman in the back. Place is really dark too.

They say it's important to stay hydrated in the desert so about halfway through Jerome we stumbled upon Paul & Jerry's in search of something to hydrate us. Though I highly doubt beer was what "they" were talking about.

For two California kids, the prices cannot be beat. We got a small pitcher of Bud for what one bottle would cost us here.

Friendly service, cool atmosphere. The bartender, Greer, I think his name was, is very friendly and talkative.

    Bring your cash, not cards.

I usually wind up at Paul and Jerry's whilst visiting Jerome after the loud music at the Spirit Room has gotten to me. The place oozes with history and is more mellow and laid-back than The Spirit Room. That being said this place is a two drinks max place for me. There's usually not enough going on that makes me want to cozy up and hang for very long.
However there is a pool table AND a Galaga/Miss Pac Man arcade game at the back. As a Galaga heavyweight back in the day, a Galaga challenge one particular day did keep me there longer than two beers....I just didn't think you could pinch a nerve hitting the "Fire" button rapidly....I must be getting old. This is one of maybe four or five drinking choices in Jerome, so it's inevitable that you will wind up here if you're thirsty...how long you stay is up to you. Just beware, it's cash only.

Cash only bar so be prepared but this is a great place to stop in and grab a drink. You can play pool here too. Very quaint bar with a friendly bartender.

My wife and I wandered in here on a day trip to Jerome, looking to grab a beer to calm our nerves from the ride in (if anyone has ever driven to Jerome, you know the switchbacks to get there can be rather frightening)... Paul & Jerry's is probably the oldest bar I've ever stepped foot in, boasting an establishment date sometime in 1887, and it shows. The beautifully ornate tin ceiling... the dated posters and photographs... even the bartender... they've all been around for awhile. It was mostly locals hanging out, but they all seemed friendly enough and didn't seem to mind a few tourists in their bar... at least we could claim to be Zonies.

The bartender chatted us up for a bit after serving us 2 ice cold Fat Tires, and gave us some recommendations of places to check out. The bar is cash only, but they did finally add an ATM so you don't have to hunt one down! Whoever was picking out the music on the antique jukebox had pretty good taste and must have dumped  quite a bit of money in it, as the music rarely stopped!

We will definitely be back, hopefully for an overnight trip so we can get wrecked with the locals and get in an old fashioned, wild west bar fight!

What a great little place! The bartender, George, was really cool & extremely patient with our large, rowdy group.

Great bar. This is what an American bar needs to be. There were bags of microwavable popcorn for $1.50. Underneath the bags was a microwave to heat them up. I drank beers here with a feeling of history behind me. I felt like I was trapped in a positive energy vortex without paying the $80 for healing in Sedona.

this place only takes cash so be prepared or you're going to have to go all the way up to the old asylum which is like, forever away, to find an atm.

    the bar itself is long.

and the bartender was cool. we ended up meeting some random dudes and playing them in pinball for like 4 hours (they had addams family!!!).

In Arizona oldest family owned saloon, Paul & Jerry's was all I expected. With a long bar on one side and tables including those for playing pool on the other. Cool beer, margaritas and shots of tequila were all we required and Paul & Jerry have plenty of all three and then some. Locals and obvious tourists mingled on and around the dance floor, which comes alive with the right selection on their jukebox. Add a seasoned Jerome bartender, no real wait time for a cocktail and the short walk to any hotel (or B&B) and you come up with a great "Dive Bar".
