This place is really a Putnam County gem. Â After years of going to Casa Grande/La Cha in Greencastle, a friend suggested Pedro's. Â Not only was the food marginally better, the service was superb and the whole presentation of the restaurant and food itself was very authentic (they serve even ice water in giant glass cask-type containers). I will definitely be making the drive to Cloverdale more often. This place really deserves a better overall rating!
Review Source:Nothing like some good, cheap Mexican food to help fuel the drive from Ohio to Missouri!
The only place I've ever eaten in Cloverdale is the truck stop and that was generally because it was 2:30 in the morning, I was "studying" with other college friends and jonesin' for a greasy breakfast. Â Pedro's is a very nice change of pace.
The service was very friendly and prompt, the chips and salsa were tasty (but I couldn't enjoy them too much because I burned the hell out of my mouth on a jalapeno popper the day before) and the menu was vast: Â tacos, enchiladas, tortas, tamales, fajitas, chile rellenos, chalupas and on and on... Â Justin had the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans and devoured all of it. Â I had a chalupa that looked suspiciously like a tostada and a chile relleno that was deliciously seasoned and cheesy. Â I didn't see horchata on the menu, which is a bummer, but they do offer margaritas... good when you're not on a road trip, I imagine. :)
The folks running this place are really, really nice and the owner stopped by our table to check that we were enjoying everything. Â They were also kind enough to let a little girl who'd been LEFT BY HER FAMILY sit around and have some soda and candy while she waited for them to realize they'd abandoned her. Â They did finally show up in a giant 15-passenger van, loaded with 11 other children (for cripes sake!), which just goes to show that Pedro's is definitely an affordable restaurant. Â If I'm ever visiting my alma mater in nearby Greencastle, I'd happily stop by for another cheesy chile relleno and hope that my ride doesn't abandon me. Â Although if he did, I'd at least have good food and margaritas to keep me company.
If you are considering eating here, then it is because you are going to eat a meal in Cloverdale, IN, and I will remind you that beggars can't be choosers. Â
The chicken in my enchilada was shockingly tough, and the "guacamole" is 9 parts sour cream to 1 part avocado, but the salsa actually has a bit of kick to it, and the tortilla chips (while leaden with oil) gave the impression they had been cooked recently. Â You might be able to do better at the Plaza diner attached to the gas station just up 231, but you could certainly do a lot worse.
