Once again, I journeyed to a place that makes Crawfordsville look like the Big City. And once again, I found just what I expected, less than I had hoped for, and just a smidge of something special.
Penalty Box Sports Bar is pretty typical for bars in this part of the country. A wide selection of sandwiches, burgers and bar food is matched by an utterly unremarkable selection of beer. Of special note were the roasted potatoes, however I also tried the rib-eye and the hamburger steak with mushrooms and onions, both of which were quite right for the price and the occasion.
Would I go again? Sure. And I'd be particularly keen to try the Prime Rib (on the first full weekend of each month) and maybe even the karaoke (second Saturdays, 9pm - 1am). But I'd by exaggerating if I said this place knocked my socks off ... I mean, other than just being a place in rural Indiana that serves up an ever-so-occasional night of karaoke.
If you do go, however, make sure to take a peak in the tastefully decorated restrooms, his and hers alike. Did I love what I saw? Well, no. But I didn't hate it, either. And in an otherwise ordinary establishment, it's nice to see a creativity and attention-to-detail that far exceeded my expectations.
