Pig and Whistle British Pub

Been going to try this place for years and for some reason, just have not until recently.  Went on a week night at dinner time and there were only four tables in use and the biggest party there was 6 people.  (Read this as 'they were not busy').  There were two waitresses working, though both seemed to serve us.  They were very nice people, but the service was slow to non existent.  When the food came, it was hot and seemed fresh but no one checked on us and we had to flag someone down for anything we needed... it was odd.

Now to the food.  

First the really good.  We split a bowl of Lobster Bisque as an appetizer and it was FANTASTIC.  A little pricey at $10 for the bowl, but very tasty with large pieces of lobster.

Next the good.  I asked the waitress for a suggestion and she mentioned the Breast of chicken a la Stilton which is a chicken breast with a stilton cheese sauce.  If you like Bleu Cheese this was supposed to be very good.  I don't care for Bleu Cheese dressing but tried it anyway... and it was good.  I had it with mashed potatoes, which was a poor choice.  I figured and English restaurant.. banger and mash (which they were out of) and all that stuff would mean good mash potatoes.  These were the super creamy kind not a lump anywhere.  Tasted like they could have come out of a box with a consistency to match.  Not for me.

Next the not so good.  My wife had the Sole Waleska which was described on the menu as "Rolled broiled fillets of sole filled with crab and scallops, served with lobster sauce in a bed of mashed potatoes".  The sole portion was so small, it could not have been more than 4 ounces and the stuffing was more breading than crab and scallops.... in fact we looked and could not find anything that resembled a crab or a scallop.

The place is not inexpensive... the lowest price meal being $14 and goes up from there.  And this price did not include a dinner salad, though the menu says you can substitute one for $2.

When we finished we had to wait a very long time for the check.  So long in fact that I gave the waitress the credit card when she brought the bill, rather than wait 10 more minutes to have it picked up.

All in all, while the service was friendly it was SLOW. If we go back, it will be to get a take out order of the lobster bisque.... and we'll call ahead for that.  It was the only reason this got 3 stars vs 2.
