We were in town for a few days to meet some friends for wine tasting and headed to the Pine Street Saloon for a few pints after dinner on Thursday night. Â We had a great time people watching, playing pool, and getting to know some of the locals. Â Ron and Kim made us feel very welcome and took good care of us. Â We had such a great time Thursday night, we went back Friday and joined in on the Karaoke. Â It was packed and so much fun! Â It's quite a bit of country, with some rock n roll too. Â Next time we are in Paso, we will definitely go back. Â Really enjoyed our two nights there and the locals and staff made us feel like we were locals too!
Review Source:OK, I try to overlook the reviews when it comes to dive bars, especially the pours and service. Â I dropped in for a quick drink after my dismal Roberts experience. Â I was prepared for the cash only, placing my money on the bar, and ordered a 7&7 from the polite bartender. Â What I received was a glass of watered down flat something, come on now...I chalked it up to shuda stuck with my normal Jameson neat..I spotted a whiskey behind the bar I had not tasted before "Kully" Â and was offered a taste, I commented that it tasted pretty damn good. Â The bartender nodded and walked down to the end of the bar to the fly covered, obnoxious, dirty leering drunks and ignored my empty 7&7 glass..when I say empty, I mean empty as ice had melted and it was dry..I gave her five more minutes..said fuck it and left with my cash and her tip. Â I could understand if the bar was packed, but it was 6 pm, and there were four people in the place, me being the fourth. Â Hey, you want my business, I don't expect to be treated like a king, just fill my damn glass, or ask if I want it to be filled. Â Just cause you have tits and the locals make you feel like your a beauty queen don't make it so.
Review Source:Meh. I've been here a few times, and I have a mixed opinion of the place, so here goes.
Pros:
--The live music that I've heard there is very good.
--Two pool tables, which are impossible to get a game on.
--Karaoke night.
--Bartenders who are fast and efficient.
Cons:
--Definitely attracts an older, old-school kind of crowd.
--Cash only (it's 2012, right?)
--Usually nowhere to sit.
--Not really much to do there, unless it's Karaoke night and the extremely rare occurrence of one of the pool tables being open happens.
Overall, I just don't think it's my scene. The only reason I go is because my friends like it for some odd reason.
I love this place any day but Friday/Saturday. Too crowded for my liking on the busy nights. If you like to have a good cocktail, nice bartender, good owner, and play some pool, you've found a good North County Bar. Yes, there are good ole boys at this bar, but I'll take them any day over lame horny drunk bros at downtown brew.
Review Source:IMHO, In the grand scheme of the Holy Grail, must see, drink, get drunk or in a fight, top 5 Nor. Cal. dive bars...
1) 2:AM Club, Mill Valley
2) Roundup Saloon, Lafayette
3) Steve's Place, Twain Harte/Toulommne
4) TIE Spec Adlers, SF/ Smiley's Schooner, Bolinas
5) TIE The Clayton Club, Clayton & Pine St. Saloon, Paso Robles
Oh yeah, there is a top 100 for this category
Dark and dreary dive bar. Mostly geezers. The bartender we had the misfortune of running into was a nasty little man who seemed to have a disdain for anyone who wasn't a regular.
My wife and I attracted the attention of a creepy long haired weird guy for some reason. Found ourselves planning a getaway from the place within 20 min..
I'm sure there MUST be a good place for cocktails and pool "somewhere" in Paso Robles, we just weren't lucky enough to find one...
PS--Very weak pours and expensive for what ends up in the glass (unless you're a regular)
Took an out of town friend there after hitting most of the other places in town.  Beer is good (how could it not be) and the place is REAL.  TOO REAL.  Good pool tables and a nice old style bar.  Patrons were a a bit scary.  Strangely racially mixed....not something you see in paso  (hey, I like that being from S.F., but a first for my Paso experience!).  But it seems like a regular hard drinking, pick-up truck driving, beat your as* if you look at me the wrong way kind of crowd.  Go there drunk and with a group of friends and don't stare at the locals!
Review Source:I'll agree with Kate. This is a real bar. It has changed a lot since it moved, but they did try to carry over the ambience when they did. A lot of old timer's hang out there and it has caught on to the younger crowd. It is not crowed and you can play a game of pool without much wait fora table. The juke box is loaded with old country tunes and some updated favorites as well. They pour a stiff drink, so dont bring your light weight friends with you!
Review Source:I don't necessarily want to go where everybody knows my name, but DO enjoy a true cowboy bar. Â Pine Street Saloon is about the last stronghold for the working cowboys and cowgirls. Â Here you can get real drinks, enjoy Wrangler buns, and sometimes real country swing dancing (my favorite!). Â I'm tired of all the overpriced, kid bars, rough biker joints, and uppity wine estasblishments who frown on dirty boots. Â I will admit that certian bartenders are tough to flag down, even on a slow night, so thus I withold the last star. Â All in all, it's a lovely spot to drink your whiskey and water, and talk about horses, rain, and the cowboys.....hmmm, could that be a line in a country song??
