I had high hopes for this place, I really did. I had been traveling to Seymour for a long time and always passed by the little hut, but never stopped. So when Pink Willie's moved to an actual building, I knew the time had come.
The interior of the "restaurant" is pretty tiny. I'm talking 2-3 tables and not much standing room. Space notwithstanding, it's pretty well decorated with Chicago-reminiscent memorabilia and articles about Pink Willie's. It's honestly just fitting of a hole-in-the-wall joint.
The food is actually really good. I cringed a bit when I heard the microwave humming, but come on- the place has 1.5 employees (more on that later) and a good amount of variety, with not a lot of kitchen space. I had the Bill Murray, an amalgamation of meatballs, jalapenos, and cheese, and a standard Chicago-syle brat, complete with a giant pickle and all the fixings. No complaints about the taste of any of it, but it is pretty heavy stuff.
Now, the staff. Maybe it was an off day, but the two ladies working there almost killed me with how depressed they looked. You'd think they were working in a sweat shop the way they looked and acted. There may have been two employees, but they had the soul of 1.5. Kind of a downer, really.
I'll probably go back to Pink Willie's, but only if I plan on being non-functional the rest of the day or want a coronary to hit me sooner than later. Good, greasy food at a reasonable price has come to Seymour!
This was a wonderful discovery in Seymour, IN. Â This sandwich shop was recommended to me by a guy I work with. Â I am not from Chicago, but my co-worker is, and he said this place nailed the chicago dog. Â All I know is that they got some great sandwiches. Â I usually get the Italian Beef combo. Â If you are travelling through the area on I-65, or you are a resident of Seymour, give this place a try. Â The owner is real nice, and the prices are very reasonable.
