Pitt Grill

We wanted breakfast at 10:30 and none of the other places were serving (we should of stopped in Lake Charles).  Despite the one review we decided to give the Pitt Grill a try and we were pleasantly surprised.  Good eggs and made from scratch pancakes.  Friendly, down home country service.  They were setting up the buffet as we left and the food looked good.  From the conversations around us it was apparent that the place is popular with the locals.

Stopped here on the way from Austin to New Orleans. We were originally going to pick up sandwiches from the Quizno's next door but all of its employees had mysteriously vanished. Bad mistake. Quizno's sandwiches are far from gourmet but the company seems to recognize that it does well sticking to sandwiches. The Pitt Grill, on the other hand, overreaches and fails miserably.

The menu has paninis, tilapia, all varieties of burgers, breakfast all day, some sort of buffet. You may think "Paninis and fish? On the side of the road?! That's amazing!"

No. I didn't try either of those but the condition of my simple chicken wrap makes me fear what they do with more elaborate "dishes". The chicken seemed to be right out of a Stouffer's box, the tortilla was slightly stale, and the bacon was soggy. All of it had an unidentifiable spiciness. My boyfriend asked me to also indicate that his burger was bland.

Lesson of the day: Stick to simple fast food when traveling through rural Louisiana, at least when there's a quasi-healthy option. Skip the Pitt Grill, hit up the Quizno's next door (once the employees magically reappear-- we saw them plus a long line of customers on our way out), and maybe visit the "Casino" in the same building. Yes, it's called the "Casino". In quotation marks.
