First of all - this is NOT a pizza joint. Â I couldn't even find pizza on the menu (quite strange). Â It's a full-scale Italian restaurant, in a very unpretentious setting (read: plastic checked tablecloth, paper napkins, neon sign out front). Â That said, the food was quite good... just not what I expected.
My friends and I were looking for a place to get a quick sandwich or takeout near Gore. Â The Place Pizza (listed as an "Italian diner") sounded and looked like the perfect place - figured we could get quick pizza, sandwiches, pasta, etc. without a full sit-down restaurant. Â Nope. Â It's a full service restaurant, with pasta, seafood, steak, full entrees and apps... but no pizza. Â Oh well. Â We sat down and recalibrated our expectations, then enjoyed the meal.
I had the mussels appetizer for $8 and it was HUGE! Â Probably 25 mussels. Â And very good. Â I ordered it hot and it was in fact quite spicy with lots of red pepper - perfect. However my friend's shrimp cocktail (which she ordered as part of her meal along with plain linguini) was disappointingly small - 4 tiny shrimp. Â Entrees ranged from $15-25 on the menu though no one ordered anything exciting to be able to comment.
Service was friendly and speedy, and we were the only table on a Friday evening in January, other than some folks at the bar.
Overall a good dinner, just not what we were expecting. Â At all. Â Rename your restaurant and update your sign!
