So we walked into the place and the lady at the counter did not really say anything to us, just kind of looked at us with a bored look. Â My husband and daughter ordered a carne asada torta and got a chicken torta. Â The food was ok. Â I had a very watered down lemonade from the soda fountain. Â Finally they had a gumball machine and my husband put two quarters in for my 4 year old and got nothing, Â When my husband told the guy behind the counter he was rude to him and said "it's not my machine," and walked away.
Review Source:the food is authentic and really tasty. i dont know if they recently jacked their prices for summer crowds but i felt the menu was a bit pricier than previous reviews stated. they have ad-boards along the exit proclaiming 69 cent tacos. BUT dont count on getting those if you are eating past 1pm.. tricky tricky. The ad-boards got me in the door but when i found out i was going to have to shell out 10 bucks for three tacos, beans, and rice i was a little disappointed. The carne asada was my filling option and it was quite good. the salad for the tacos was good, the beans perfect, the rice.. just ok. would i stop here again? probably not. i would try something else first.. In this area, driving from SF to Las Vegas, there are quite a few taquerias and trucks to explore...
Review Source:Like others, I recommend skipping the fast food and come here instead. Â It is located next to Shell gas station. Â You have to go inside the store to order and pick up the food in the truck outside. Â Price is very affordable. Â I paid $2.98 for a 2 soft carne asada tacos which was loaded with meat AND tastes hella good. Â I would eat again the next time I'm in the area.
Review Source:If you're travling between Southern California to Northern (or visa versa) via the 5 freeway and you're needing to stop for food, QUIT eating fast food and eat here!
Ive been one of those people who, if im on a road trip, is more susceptible to the pitfalls of McDonalds, taco bell...basically fast food hell when other options are seemingly unavailable for miles. Thank God we searched around a bit more when in buttonwillow and found this place. I never want to stop off completely and have a full sit down meal when Im on a road trip so this place is prfect (unlike my spelling).
Its right next to a shell, so after re-filling, head a few more feet forward and there you'll be. You'll see a small shack outside of the main market building. You order inside and they cook it outside (or at least that's how it seems)
I always get lengua tacos whenever Im at an authentic taco spot. These tacos dont disappoint. Huge cubes of JUICY, tender cow tongue with the onion and cilantro already piled on. Add salsa from their salsa bar and you're good. They also have carne asada and al pastor tacos which are cooked well, the al pastor having a bit of a char taste that I like. Its $1.25/taco and it's REAL fast food, cooked by a real person-quickly!
Also got the pollo plate which is chargrilled chicken with spices, comes with rice, beans, lettuce onion and cilantro and corn tortillas for like $6. Its really good if you like chicken. I ordered it but my sister ended up finishing it because she loves chicken. They also have tortas, burritos and other plate dishes here.
Ok, the tacos arent among my favorite tacos on this planet, but for being in the middle of nowhere and not wanting to give in to the corporate man, this is as good as it can get.
Like I said, if you're looking for food that isnt manufactured and are in buttonwillow consider coming here. They also have ice cream and really good roasted peanuts if you're interested.
They don't really have a true menu or any real prices associated with their items. Â That was probably the most confusing thing about this place. Â Another thing you want to take note is that you need to order inside the market and then pick up your order on the outside taco truck. Â
We just got some pollo asado and pork burritos for about $5.50/burrito. Â Nothing too special but I would say it's average for being in Buttonwillow. Â The people who work here are very nice and seem like they work very hard. Â I really don't know how they make profit here but I guess the rent should be cheaper and you have the local businesses that contribute much traffic into Planeta Rojo.
I think 76 is the gas station that holds this gem. Â There are two taco trucks near this gas station but this one is sitting next to it's partner ice cream shop/convenience store. Â The other one is closer towards the street.
We got a carne asada burrito & six soft tacos for a total of $12. Â The ladies in the truck were very friendly. Â After you order, you go into the store to pay. Â It's a little barren.... they sell a couple of food items here and there. Â They also sell ice cream which is very random. Â The burrito and tacos were surprisingly so tasty and flavorful! Â In addition to steak, the burrito also has beans & rice. Â It was piping hot... all the way to the very last bite. Â They have green and a spicy red salsa in the drink fridge that tops off the burrito nicely.
Instead of the regular fast food chains, I will definitely stop by here instead for food when I'm driving along in the middle of the nowhere on highway 5.
