*This review based on BUFFET, not full dining experience.
While the dark and outdated decor seriously needs some overhauling, the buffet is terrific and the service friendly.
During a recent Friday evening family dinner, I happily filled up with all kinds of pasta salads and appetizers, backed up by steak, mashed potato, mac-n-cheese, crab cake and meatballs. All were cooked rather nicely and tasted great. Â The dessert, however, was a rather bland blueberry pie, which was on the mushy side and not very fulfilling.
I watched the waitresses during this Friday evening rush, and I noticed that they were all kind and patient with everyone at their tables. All service was with a smile, and that's a big plus for me.
My only complaint is that the serving ladels, spoons, tongs, forks, etc., were being handled by so many people and being splattered often, that their handles became greasy. This needs more attention by those in charge of the buffet.
Overall experience: I would return if ever again in Brookville!
Homemade pies do not a good restaurant make.
We made this a stop on the way home from Pittsburgh and the dining experience at this restaurant buffet was sub-par. Pricing for the buffet was $8.99 for adults and $0.80 x age for small children. We arrived for an early lunch (around 11:45 am) and almost all of the entrees that we had tried tasted as though they had been under the heat lamps from early that morning. The salad bar had some pretty decent options though we didn't try the soups.
The homemade pies in the dessert buffet looked nice but tasted bland.
The staff was very friendly and this is the sole reason for my two-star rating.
Though Plyler's was conveniently off of the highway and provided an easy buffet for a family to dine, I will not be making this a stop the next time.
In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. This place is not very good but besides some chain truckstop its one of the only games in town.
and I must say you would think that a place that made so many pies and considered it their claim to fame, would make pies that didnt suck.
This restaurant is my usual stop when I travel to and from Pittsburgh as it is just off I-80 Exit 78 in Brookville. I have no idea how this place is on a weekend but on weekdays, I've never had trouble parking or getting a table at this restaurant. The lunch buffet is inexpensive. The food is a mix of country-style cooking, pizza, and nachos. There is also a salad bar and a dessert counter. Save room for pie. They usually have a pretty good selection of pies and I like their blueberry and pecan pies.
Review Source:I stumbled in, road-weary, bleary eyed, half-starved from traveling with a bunch of raw-vegan athletes. . . and there it was. A window. . .with something so horrible, so utterly. . .Oh wait, that's a mirror. And. . .a sign above it that says. . . 6-packs TO GO! Sweet salvation. . .and a whole   beautiful. . . clean. . lighted. . . .case. . . full of PIE!!!
Rewind to 1973. State of interior design wood paneling, people that started coming here then. Lovely blue hair, and menu to match. I had the turkey club and tomato soup, which was all good and comforting. 2 cups of mediocre burnt coffee, but it came with caffeine. A buffet that involved lots of mayonnaise and iceberg lettuce, and dessert buffet that involved lots of coolwhip. . .and a really good sour cherry crumble and. . .meringue. Mmmmm. Pie.
Charm and standard American family restaurant/buffet fare. . and evidently they have pizza toooo. . . though I didn't get to try that.
Far superior stop to fast food if you're truckin' down Interstate 80.
PS - the raw vegan people found enough at the salad bar to stay alive
*munching down bacon and turkey swimming in mayo. . nomnomnom*
When they are 110, they can gloat that they are alive and I am dead. :D
