Poe's Tavern is just simply amazing! The decor.. Love it!

I love coming here and sitting out on their patio under the palm trees on a beautiful day.

I highly recommend their quesadillas (I have tried all of them and loved them all), and either of the two burgers:

BLACK CAT- Grilled Onions, Edgar's Drunken Chili, Applewood Bacon & Pimiento Cheese

TELL-TALE HEART- Fried Egg, Applewood Bacon & Cheddar Cheese

As for drinks, they do have some great cocktails, and beer selections. During happy hour, or when they are running some kind of specials on cocktails, it is well worth the price to take advantage of it! They usually pour them dranks pretty strong..

Great burgers because of the toppings and fries because the meat isn't really seasoned at all. I don't know if they assume you will always have a bite of something with your burger or what. The food is very good if you do just that, just don't try the burger by itself because it just doesn't taste like anything. The burger with the egg on top was fantastic and the fries are really good. We will go back and ask for the meat to be seasoned when we order and see what happens.

Good burgers, great atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating.  Why 3 stars?  The kitchen was SO slow... about 45 minutes to make a selection of chicken sandwiches and cheese burgers, very frustrating.  Also, drinks were very watered down.  Will not be a return customer.

Great atmosphere. Burgers were delicious and service was great. Wished there was a bit more variety in the menu, but apparently burgers (or chicken) are the specialty.

I went here for happy hour during the Memorial Day weekend. It was jammed but the waitstaff was helpful and available. The quesadillas are da bomb!
Lots of craft beer on draft and yuengling lager available. Sweet!
The outdoor seating is perfect too. I'd go back.

I really wanted to love this place.  That said I probably will not come back. There were 4 of us here for lunch and we were seated promptly.  I asked the waitress if they would cook my burger rare because I know some places do not.  She said most definitely!  We ordered 3 burgers 2 med rare and my burger rare and S-I-L ordered shrimp salad sandwich.  We had to wait for refills on soda several times.  Shrimp salad was very good but my burger came out medium with just a touch of pink.  I know I could have sent it back but everyone else had their food so I ate it anyway.  The fries were so so we prefer steak fries to the skinny ones but the blue cheese slaw was not tasty at all.  I give a 3 since the shrimp was good but the burgers were not very tasty.  Nice decor though!

Service was great, although the continual bearers of bad news: they were out of chicken, and tuna, AND our friends dog couldn't hang out anywhere near the opening of the bar area, so we had to move to a shaky picnic table a few feet away. Fine. The drinks were good, the decor decidedly Edgar Alanish with follow-thru all the way to the restrooms where you can enjoy a proper Poe reading while you..um.."poe".  Loved the fried egg options, although we ordered some queso that came with very few chips. But wait! Here's the great news: "we can offer to sell you the appropriate amount of chips for your cheese at the mere cost of one additional dollar", yay!!! I've never felt as cynical and self-loathing as the actual Poe probably did, and I can't wait to go back to this place, because I like it, and I probably deserve it.

Nice vibe here.  Loved all the Poe quotes round the bar area, as well as all the Poe-themed food, Pit and Pendulum burger for example.  Nice wide open floor plan, making the place feel much larger than it actual was, with a pet-friendly outdoor area.

We ordered up some cocktails and some Bold City Killer Whales, all of which were great.  Service was fast and friendly as well, so no complaints there.  Only problem we had was that they were completely out of tuna and chicken, so if you wanted to eat, salads and burgers were your only options.  Luckily, we were not starving, so we simply didn't order any food.  Instead, we grabbed some slices at Al's down the street.

All-in-all, pretty cool place and I'd definitely return.

You know, I have been planning to go to Poe's since I received the notice that Sticky Fingers was breaking their lease.  I just never made it there, however my girls were out of town and my son wanted to try their burgers, so viola.

Okay, my biggest issue was parking. This area of town is notorious for limited parking and finding a space did take some finesse.

Seated quickly, started with Queso and Chips, which were delightful. Chose the cheese burger with their home made blue cheese and hand cut fries, both were delicious. My son had a bun-less burger he really loved. We skipped dessert, but they had a Key Lime pie that looked interesting.

Okay, why not five stars?  It started raining and they closed most of the open bay doors and a lady stood inside and smoked about 3 feet from me. When I politely asked, she put it out but lit another one five minutes later. It totally ruined the experience and was part of the reason we skipped dessert.

This restraunt is amazing! First the theme is just fantastic! I love that even when you walk into the bathroom they have Poe playing over the speakers. The food is fantastic! I had a buffalo shrimp salad and omg I will never go anywhere else for this salad. I felt like my mouth was having a flavor explosion. They also have a fantastic selection of beer on tap. I am really into the local beers and they have them. Definitely go check them out!

Husband had wanted to try Poe's Tavern for a while so while we were out running errands we decided to stop in. Not being hungry enough for our own entrees, we decided to split an appetizer and an entree. So glad we did.

For an appetizer, we shared the bacon cheese fries, and other than Cruiser's which has set a high bar for cheese fries, these are definitely among my favorites in Jacksonville. The fries are thin & crispy (reminiscent of well done fries from In-N-Out) and the bacon was plentiful. The serving was more than enough for the two of us so we were very glad to be sharing a burger. I honestly don't remember which burger we settled on, but they all sounded so good. I know it was served with a side of the bleu cheese slaw which I (surprisingly) loved. I'm usually a fan of the sweeter cole slaws but this was bowl-licking good.

Poe's definitely fits with the neighborhood and offers that place where everyone wants to meet up & hang out. We'll definitely be back soon.

Where to begin? Lets start with the rude and inept hostesses. Got quoted 2 different wait times and was told to give my number so they could text when our table was ready. While I went to the bathroom I counted 10 open tables. Very annoying to be told the wait is 30 min and see half the restaurant open! After expressing my annoyance l was met with rude remarks. Later they found us and claimed they'd been texting "for 14 minutes" and acted like it was my fault. Well they had taken my number down wrong!!! Then I was talking to my friends saying if we don't leave now I'm going to punch someone in the face. A figure of speech. The rude manager walked 20 ft out of his way to eavesdrop on my convo and then accused me of being aggressive and asked us to leave. Wouldn't want to pay $15 for their mediocre burgers anyway!! Never going back to be treated that way. The manager and staff are douche bags.

I've gotta say, Poes has one of the best burgers I've had, and I've had a lot of burgers! Most places don't understand, that you can't just use a frozen patty.  Poes has it all figured out, and the customer service to go with it. I had the Tell-Tale-Heart Burger, with the bacon, egg and cheddar, and it was awesome! I love the shoestring fries too! I highly recommend eating here!

Certainly a place to check out if you like burgers or want a beer on the beach. They also have fish tacos; which my mom said were good. Their fish is all locally bought and fresh. You can order the burgers with your standard beef, chicken, or veggie. I really like the Tell-Tale-Heart Burger. Applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and fried egg on top. All dinners (burgers/chicken/veggie burger) come with lettuce, tomato, fried onion rings, and choice of Hand-Cut French Fries, Potato Salad or Marinated Bacon-Blue Cheese Slaw.

The decor and open front side of the restaurant/bar to the porch and street is nice. As everyone has said in previous reviews it has a Edgar Allan Poe theme going on. A few of his pictures and quotes are around the place, but nothing over-bearing.

Be careful though this place can get very busy. When they do expect about a 40 minute wait for dinner; it's worth it as everything is hand made (almost everything). Their fries are the shoestring type.

I'll definitely be coming back. This was my second visit and first time trying their food. Would be a great place to take your friends that come from out of town if they are craving a really good burger. The parking can be a hassle if they are busy since it's downtown Atlantic Beach, and the parking there is pretty much nonexistent.

Great place to have a beer and eat a burger.  The staff was great, which is nice considering how busy the place was.  They were happy to offer recommendations.  The burgers were great and everything was fresh.  Would be a great place for a happy hour or a late dinner.

Yelp does it again! I'm at the point where I don't even want to waste my $ on going out to eat ulness I consult Yelp first. Well, I went out last night to Poe's Tavern with some work buddies due to everyone's high recommendation on here. It was a cool, casual place, great beer selection, and I was tempted by several menu options. I am a big fan of black bean burgers so I ended up going with that (I'm a vegetarian/pescetarian). It was one of the best I've ever had (the only rival is at this place in Houston). You could tell it was homemade and delicious! I also don't end of getting too excited about french fries, so I got the onion strings instead. Well, when I saw my co-workers' fries, I had to try some because they were just how I like: very thin and slightly crispy. My friends were very happy with their burgers. Also our waitress was very good and attentive. I don't remember her name but she had long blond hair. To top off how much I liked this place, the music they were playing was awesome (in my opinion): oldies like Otis Redding, Barry White, Diana Ross, etc. Then after later hours they played Ghostland Observatory just to spice things up with a bass beat.
GO THERE, you'll be happy :)

We frequently visit Poe's because they have good beer on tap, with a wide variety of choices.  The food primarily consists of burgers.  They have many to choose from, including one topped with a crabcake, one topped with buffalo fried shrimp, as well as more traditional ones topped with bacon and cheese.  All of their burger toppings are also available on grilled chicken breast or veggie burgers.  When you're not in the mood for a burger, I recommend the buffalo shrimp salad: crisp greens topped with tasty buffalo shrimp and chunks of blue cheese.
We enjoy sitting outside on the patio or in the area just inside from the patio.  It's a little dark and loud in the main dining room.

A beautiful outside garden table.  It was family style and everyone was fun and friendly which was good BECAUSE,

We waited for our food for a really, really, really long time. Almost an hour.

Here is the world worst excuses.  "we a really busy"  "Were so slammed".

If it's Sunday at 1pm on a playoff day at a bar/pub managers need to schedule EVERYONE.  Don't tell me your busy as if it were a huge surprise that that was the case.  Prepare your staffing better.

I like Poe's. The burgers are very tasty! I like the atmosphere...Its a chill vibe. You can sit outside on their patio which is nice when the weather is warm. Great place to go for a good burger and beer. Also, good place to go for cocktails before hitting the local bars.

Poe's is one of my go to restaurants at the beach. They have a good draft beer selection and the burgers are huge and consistently amazing. The ingredients always seem very fresh too, which is a major plus to me! I have enjoyed many variations of there burgers, including both meat and black bean patties. My all time favorite is the tell tale heart, which consists of the pattie of your choice (beef, chicken, or black bean) and cheese, bacon and a fried egg accompanied with the normal lettuce, tomato, and onion toppings. The outdoor seating is also a big positive, as we love to dine with our pup Izabella!

This place caught my eye when I first got here to Jacksonville, so my wife and I decided to give it a chance. We honestly didn't know what to think as we walked in, this place could be a very dark and dreary bar, that made you sullen with its atmosphere. It was not, it was the polar opposite, brightly lit from the open windows and Poe stuff everywhere. It gives off more of what would Edgar Allen Poe's tavern look like if he lived on the beach and surfed.

I'm getting away from my point though. Lets move on to the service, the waitress was very helpful and completely on top of everything, so much so that my wife thought she wanted to be on me, but I digress.

She brought us our menus and I did what I always do and went strait to the beer list, the selection was about average size for a tavern, nothing to crazy, and the beers were mostly second tier beers, with a lot of locals to try.

We got our beers and ordered our meals, I had the burger topped with blue cheese and shrimp. It was a great combination of the spice of the shrimp with the blue cheese and onion straws. Easy to say this burger made my day.

This place was a great find, and reminds me why I love trying places that are odd themed. This place is great for a beer and diner with the family after a long day at the beach, especially since its conveniently located right next to a bunch of shops to explore to walk off all the tasty food you just ate.

Had a really good experience at Poe's. We came in on a Sunday afternoon with our dog and and we were sat outside on the patio. We ordered a couple local draft beers while the hostess brought us a bowl of water for the pup. Our server (Chris) was awesome and went over the menu pointing out the fresh ingredients used in all of their dishes. It started raining a little bit so they quickly moved us under the awning to have dinner. The food was delicious, the beer was cold and the service was excellent... and they are very dog friendly. We will definitely be back!

Very nice atmosphere, great food. Simplified to Hamburgers and Chicken sandwiches but a very unique and nice variety. Got the amotillado (mispell) and it was amazing has guac spread, jalapeno jack cheese, salsa. The guacamole and queso appetizers were also very good. Someone else ordered a chicken sandwich and it looked very good. Would definitely recommend and go back again. Especially the outdoor seating and ambiance. Much better than sticky fingers that was once there..

I have spent my entire summer at Jax Beach and had the opportunity to try this place twice.  The first time may have been fluke, because the second time was not as awesome.  I suppose time of week makes up for the amount of face time you get with your server, but that makes sense anywhere.  Anyhow, service was stupendous on a Tuesday evening; which probably explains why we hung out for about 4 hours.  The drinks were spot on and the Three Olives weekly bargain did not hurt.  We paid over a "Bill" but I can't complain since the burgers were juicy, the drinks did their duty to inebriate us, and our server Mary made sure to hit us up at least every 20 minutes.  Not enough time to be annoying, but long enough to refill our drinks and partake in some chitchat. (4-stars)

The second experience, our server was not Mary.  Maybe that was where we went downhill.  He was sociable, but just felt like he was doing his job.  He took our orders, served our waters and supplied the hubs with great local beer options.  The burgers were not as good this time, neither was the wait time for them, and the drinks were so-so.  Although the Three Olives special was still a great option, the mixed drinks we had fell short. (2.5 stars)

I actually have some guests coming into visit, while I stay here.  I may decide to suggest this spot...we'll have to see.  I hope the 2nd visit was fluke and not the first.

Great space - patio + open air inside so you can take in the beach vibe without baking in the sun. A little dark inside but view to the street makes it all fun. Tables are nicely spaced. We had a big booth in the corner. The waitress was great in accommodating a picky 4-yr old. Stick with the burgers! SIL loves the Rue Morgue - bunless burger with fried egg, chili, and queso. My burger had grilled onions, chili and pimento cheese - some kinda wonderful! The blue cheese coleslaw side is deelish. Great selection of beer, both local and around the way. I enjoyed a Lagunitas IPA. Moderate prices, good portions.

The restroom is funny - a recording of someone reading the Raven was playing.

A burger joint with a literary theme? I had to try it. Named after "The Raven" author Edgar Allen Poe, whose likeness can be seen painted on the walls and imprinted on the beer mugs, Poe's Tavern offers a huge variety of burgers and beers, as well as other staples like chili cheese fries, nachos and quesadillas. For me, the kicker is that every burger can be ordered as a traditional beef pattie, chicken burger, or a yummy black-bean veggie burger. Try the Sleeper with Buffalo Shrimp and Bleu Cheese (yes, thats ON TOP of the burger) Oh, and a warning, when you take a bathroom break don't be alarmed by the Poe-reciting voices reading to you in the stalls. Creepy? Maybe. Delicious? Definitely.

Cool atmosphere. Dark but not dreary. Not too many tvs. Perfect place to have a long night (or day) of great conversation. Also love that the Poe theme doesn't take itself too seriously and isn't campy.

Good burgers. Cooked exactly to order. Don't order medium thinking you'll get medium well.

Some reviews say the service is bad, but my experience was good. Friendly and prompt. As someone else wrote, my four stars will change to five if my next few visits go as well.

Are you looking for a place built on an original idea with its own personality and charm?  A place that serves good food, a wide variety of beer, and other drinks?  Then look no further.  Poe's Tavern is the place for you.

I ran into Poe's by sheer accident on my way to a different establishment in the same area.  It caught my eye and I decided to give it a try.  I'm glad I stopped.

The atmosphere here is awesome!  The theme is Edgar Alan Poe and they pull it off in a classy way.  There is a nice big dining area and a patio area separated by a large bar.  The music is groovy and the beer selection is huge.  The menu offers a decent variety of food, but is not overwhelming and the service was excellent.

I'd highly recommend stopping by here.  The food was delicious, the beer cold, the atmosphere super cool, and the service great.  I know I'll be back when I'm in town again.

I moved to Jax two years ago, and have missed all the local bars and hangouts back home, and specifically the amazing burgers at those joints.  My wife and I were out at the beach communities on Saturday and decided to stop in.

The service was very friendly and personable, and we were well taken care of.

We both ordered burgers, and as we started to eat, both of us were smiling widely at the other.  It was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and just delicious!  We also shared the cheese and green onion fries, and those were great as well.

Needless to say, we'll be back, and I may have to add the fifth star if they continue where they left off!

Gave them another shot, and it was great!! I've been back several times, and will continue!

Bad service....never got to try the food, because of the bad service. Just a bad experience from the moment we walk in....until we decided to leave about 20 minutes into our night. Doesn't fit in with the whole laid back beach vibe....at all.
I'll stick with MShack.... they're a much better fit for our little beach town center feel, and their food is fantabulous....MShack has better than excellent service too!
