We ate there for the breakfast buffet because we had a coupon where you bought one buffet and two drinks and got the other for free and it ended up being a fairly good deal, just over $11. However, I noticed that it would have been nearly $20 without the coupon, YIKES!!! That is quite expensive for breakfast especically considering the food was not the best. I wish Hazard had a Golden Corral because their breakfast and all buffet offerings for that matter are outstanding! The biscuits were the best thing on the buffet, they were as good as any other places. The French toast was good too. The rest was not the greatest, the scrambled eggs to me were under cooked and the selection was small. I thought that there were ham slices, turned out it was fried bologna, totally sick! That is something I'll eat at home only and most definitly not for breakfast. Our server was AWESOME, very attentive and kind. Our table was sticky... so that was kinda yucky. We probably won't return to this place and if we do we'll have a coupon cause it's not worth it without one.

Very nice place to eat. I have been there to attend a Lion's club meeting. I like the variety of food Ponderosa offered.

what a nice place, I visited Ponderosa Steak House for Lion's club meeting that we were able to have a lunch at a private room. I thought they provide only Steaks and ribs but actually they had a buffet. So I had a buffet  there and the choice of foods was various and they provided good quality for me. they had different kinds of soups, meats and vegetables and also yummy desserts. I loved this place. the price was also good and the waiters were kind.

Try the steak tips, bbq ribs, or the ribeye, they're delicious. Great service and awesome atmosphere. One of my favorite places in this little town. If you are looking for a good country cooked meal, this is definitely the place for you. There's a large hot-bar, salad bar and desert bar that is included with every menu item or you can purchase just the buffet.

This was not my first time at ponderosa but it was definitely my best experience there. The buffet had many different options which is great when you have a group of sixteen people that have many different eating habits. Also the service was great the waitress that's nametag said Granny was the sweetest woman ever and she said she had been there for seventeen years which just amazes me. I love eating in that type of environment and hope to soon go back and eat there again. They were also very quick with drinks and you did not go without a refill which is a nice thing when you have so many people to take care of because you know then they are thinking about you not just how much money they will make in tips by the end of the day.

I went with a group of 20 on two different occasions, the appeal being that this is a buffet and we wouldn't have to wait for everyone's food. On both occasions, I had the meatloaf, which was fairly decent, along with random items I picked off the buffet. There salad bar was nice in that it had a wide array of toppings, but at the same time, it was lacking because the only lettuce that hadn't already had some work done to it was that cheap stuff that you would normally put on a taco. I tried the pears off the salad bar, expecting them to be your run of the meal canned pear but realized they weren't quite right. I sat with a girl the second time we went there who said they tasted like they were starting to ferment. The dessert bar was pretty nice and included a soft serve machine with a variety of toppings. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience.

I can't say that I was all that pleased with the food here. It was edible, but it kind of made me feel like I was back at Berea College in the cafeteria. Several options of bland food. I guess if you're really hungry and want to go to a buffet then you could go here, but honestly I'd rather save my money and cook myself a much better meal at home.

I don't really enjoy eating meat, and this place is definitely not for vegetarians. The mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, nachos and green beans are acceptable, but tasted as though I could have had them at home- for a $13 meal, this is not acceptable.  The food is ok, but if you aren't that hungry, or you don't like meat, go somewhere else and save yourself some money.  The service is excellent though

If you plan on eating out with a large crowd, this is the perfect place to grab a hearty meal. An individual can choose to buy a plate with a nice juicy steak or visit the buffet which consists of an assortment of vegetables, chicken, fish, fruits, bread and so much more. The waitresses are quick to refill drinks and they make themselves available to you if you should need anything more to make your stay pleasant. It just so happened that a few people had birthdays in the restaurant and the waitresses take the time to sing to their guests. The mood is very family oriented, aside from a bar in the back which is separated from other seating. This was a good place friend and I decided to stop, and I suggest you check it out if you're ever in the area.

The ambiance is great. A nice quite and clean place to enjoy a meal and unwind. The buffet had a wide variety of salads for those who love staying healthy. It also had well cooked chicken, meatloaf and bacon for the meat eaters. I particularly enjoyed their tuna casserole salad. The service was fast and pleasant. A couple of people had birthdays and the waitresses joined us in singing birthdays songs! pretty amazing experience. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves quality. The prices are a bit high but it is worth it!

I am no stranger to Ponderosa! In fact, I lived in St.Louis, MO and I was a dedicated customer there with my family. The experience I had today for dinner in Hazard was a wonderful one. I love their chicken wings the most! I had a full plate and by the time I was done with my food, I was suddenly diagnosed with "Clean Plate Syndrome." It is a friendly environment and very clean. The waitresses were good at their jobs, granted that there were 20 of us they managed to keep the drinks and refills coming and assisted us with whatever else we needed. The birthday crew was significant because they make the person celebrating their birthday feel welcomed with a big glass of cookies and cream ice cream. We enjoyed dinner there and would definitely recommend someone new in the area to dine-in there.

Ponderosa has good food, friendly service, and a birthday crew. I ate from the buffet and was a little disappointed at the limited options, but the food I did eat was very good. I must say that the rolls are just as good if not better than mainstream steakhouses, and the environment had a professional feel to it, even though it is locally owned and operated. Overall it was a great experience for my group and I.

Thankfully this place is suitable for vegetarians as well as meat lovers. I was pleased by the salad bar options but not surprised. There were a wide variety of vegetables from 2 prepared salads (Cesar and a fruit salad) shredded lettuce, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, 2 types of cheese, tomatoes, onions, raisins, etc.

There was also a southern style bar with mashed potatoes, meat loaf, spaghetti and the like and a bar for nachos that included chips, cheese dip, taco meat, corn, etc.

My favorite part was the fruit and dessert bar that included soft serve ice cream and toppings, spice cake, sugar cookies, brownies, puddings, jello, canned and fresh fruit and more.

The service was also fast and friendly I would definitely come back though I over ate and hate buffet bars!

What a pleasant surprise. I usually check "reviews" prior to taking the 20 students I have with me this summer to a restaurant. I also call ahead or go in person to visit with the management to see of there is seating an assortment of entrees. I was very pleased with the Ponderosa Steak House.

I limited the menu choices to $11.49 which helps you to discern the choices for the county-style buffet ($9.59) with fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, fish steaks, spaghetti, spinach, broccoli cheese soup, green beans and mashed potatoes, and wide assortment of deserts (try the soft brownies). Bring someone on their birthday and the Ponderosa Team will serenade the birthday person.

Being an international student in Berea College, I have never had this delicious mashed potatoes. I found Panderosa to be the best of all the places from our stay in Hazard, KY. The service was fast. They had variety of food. I had salad and mashed potatoes. My team were also happy about their orders.
Meat loaf, Spaghetti, and desserts were some of the things this place had to offer. They also had fair price. All in all, I found the location of the place fabulous, on the mountain. Tthe food and the service were also satisfactory.
One of the fun part was how they celebrate customers birthday. This is a good place so I encourage you to pay them a visit.
