We found this location on our yelp I phone AP and decided to go. Â When we first pulled up - we honestly were a little skepitcal - but knowing that the building is not necessarily representative of the food we decided to go in. Â It was almost closing time and no other customers was inside. (plus Athens TN is not that large of a city anyway). Â The owner and her staff were very accomdating without rushing us at al. Â For $5 each we ordered a pork barbeque with real homemade fries and a drink. Â The barbeque was by far some of the best North Carolina style barbeque we have had. Â I enjoy being able to actually taste the meet without it being drowned in sauces. Â They have their own homemade sauces so you can put the amount you want- and their vinegar sauce was wonderful! Â Recommend you stop by --
Review Source:Part of the fun of going out of town on business is hunting down good. Â Hell, most of the time it's the only fun. Â Found this unassuming place while visiting Athens for a couple of days, and would have to say it's one of my all time favorite finds.
Like the previous reviewer, we were warmly greeted by Luke when we entered, and he hooked us up with a sampler for two - four meats, four sides. Â I really couldn't tell you what I liked most, they were all exceptional. Â Well smoked, with some great sauces on the table (all homemade) to compliment them. Â Ate pulled chicken, pork loin, whole chicken, and pulled turkey (yup, I said turkey) for meats and they were all just great. Â Sides were potato salad, slaw, collards, and Brunswick stew, also all excellent.
I can't wait to get back to Athens, and another trip to the Pork Barrel!
