Portway Tavern

The Halibut fish and chips are still some of the best that I have tasted. The fries are still so-so, but the onion rings are house made--crispy and good. It is a local hangout.

Love it here.  The best burgers in town are at the Portway.  True, the service may be a bit slow because they don't have enough people on the shift, but like I've said before, we don't need to be in such a hurry all the time.  In Europe when you go out, it's a social occasion.  Have a drink and shoot darts until the meal arrives and enjoy each others company.  As for the comment about people talking about other customers and how they are dressed, well that's the rude customer, not the business.  When we have been in there, men have come in wearing suits and they have been welcomed like anyone else.  I have yet to have a disappointing burger here.  I also love the margaritas and if scotch is your drink, they have a nice variety.

Well, OK, let's take the issues one-at-a-time.

1:  If you are the BirkenStock (BS.) type, you would Prolly be more comfortable elsewhere.  However, when my BS. friends come here with me, we all are treated with respect, courtesy and receive a consistently high level of service as well as great food and beer (I recommend the Rueben sandwich).

B:  If you have such a high opinion of yourself that you feel all places public should carry your brand of cheap beer in the off chance that you will come in and ask for it, you probably have precious little company in that opinion and should get yasef a clue.  The Portway is an Earthy tavern which was started for the fishing/logging blue collar workers of Northern Oregon and that Earthy character lives to this day.  You too should find a place that better caters to your smug sense of self importance.  I am sure any yuppy watering hole in Lakewood or SeaTac will do.  If only PBR will satisfy you, I hear that it is very popular in China.  Please, say hi to Wal-Mart for me while you're there.

III:  "Mouth farting" isn't a new term, I'm sorry some treat it like it is and need to put it into almost every sentence.  It doesn't matter where we go, there will eventually be those around us who have not had a proper upbringing.  Consequently, these people misbehave in public and deserve nothing more than to be ignored.  If another customer in Safeway were to be rude to me, I would certainly not stop going to Safeway.  Most likely, after shopping, I'd simply go to the Portway for a cold beer where I will receive better treatment.

Finally:  Give the Portway a chance to impress you.  Go for the food, the good beer selection and the friendly atmosphere from the employees as well as most of the other customers.

Oh, one More thang:  An ideal spot if you are vacationing up or down Highway 101.  Wear jeans and a T-shirt though.  This is a casual bar n grill and fancy just looks pretentious and out of place.
