This is an odd amalgamation of "first date" place, family restaurant, and singles pick up bar. In other words, there's perhaps an identify crisis afoot.
My friend and I were in town for a conference so we stepped in for a quick bite. The server was very helpful--even allowing us to order from the after 10pm menu (half price burgers, etc.) a few minutes before the tenth strike of the clock. She logically stated, "When you get it, it'll be about 10pm."
I like logic!
There appeared to be a good selection of beers on draft. My friend opted for a giant 64 ounce beer that came in a jug and cost about 21 bucks. Given it held 4 pints and came with the souvenir Post Street Ale House amber beer house (this thing was HUGE!), I call that a good deal.
The food was above par and what you would expect from a place called, "ale house."
I enjoyed this restaurant because it had at least a half dozen flat screen tvs and such a great beer selection! Â I used my taplister app to find some Boundary Bay beer in the Spokane area and decided to try it after I saw there were three on drought. Â I had fish tacos for dinner, three tacos plated around a coffee cup of black bean soup with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of chives. Â The tacos consisted of a simple swipe of guacamole and a cream taco sauce, a small piece of fried fish, corn salsa and topped with a sprig of cilantro. Â I put a spoon full of beans in the tacos and a squeeze of lime on the fish and then devoured them. Â So good!! I would definitely try other things on the menu next time though, the reuben looked awesome too.
Review Source:Perhaps the conclusion to draw from other reviews is that this place may simply be inconsistent, but we had a good time here yesterday during happy hour. Paddles with five 4 oz. tastes were only $5! The server said that they had 26 different beers on tap. Something for everyone, so bring your pickiest beer snob! Bringing our kids was no problem, either.
Review Source:Came to Post Street Ale House from The Davenport hotel across the street to see if the word of mouth around the area was accurate. So far in my trips to Spokane, Post Street has one of the best beer selections. Solid 10 or so regulars on tap and a rotating list of 15+ regionals, many of which I haven't seen elsewhere.
Arrived around on 9 on a slow Monday night and quickly found a seat at the bar and was greeted by an attentive waitress who was surprisingly, given recent experiences, rather familiar with the beer offerings and provided some of her own recommendations.
While I sat and watched Monday Night Football, the clock rolled past 10 so their well priced late night menu was now up for grabs. I ordered the wings, medium. For $5.50 I was full. Ill say this, I'm rarely full, especially after only 7 wings but these did it. The drumsticks were huge and the flats also very good. The medium packed a nice spice but wasn't unwelcome.
I will definitely be back at least a couple times this week if for nothing else than  to try another one of the beers I probably won't ever see outside of Spokane. Give Post Street Ale House a try.
Really like this place. There were 9 of us, tired & hungry from traveling. Â We sat at this long bar and had fish & chips, Reuben sandwiches, fish tacos, salads, cheeseburgers, blackened ahi pasta, fried calamari, fried mozzarella sticks, chili. All the food looked really fantastic. Not gourmet but good and substantial. Nice beer and wine selection. Not too noisy but fun atmosphere. Would come again!
Review Source:This might be a slightly unfair review, but you know about First Impressions, and ours sucked. Â We had a few hours to kill before leaving Spokane, and though we would kill them with Sunday lunch here. Â Three servers and four tables comprised the population. Â We self-seated as directed and waited for a server. Â And waited. Â And waited. The table behind us was actively being managed, as was a table in the back, so I know they saw us. Â Some guy eventually dropped off menus and then took off without asking if we wanted to place a drink order. Â So we waited. Â And waited. Â And waited. Â Finally, I went and tracked him down and told him what we wanted to drink. Â He eventually brought it, then left again without asking if we wanted a food order. Â We finished half the beer before he came back and asked if wanted to order anything. Â I ordered the check.
Review Source:CLEANLINESS: The place didnt seem dirty, but i was a little weirded out when i went to the bathroom. The bathroom wasn't spotless, but lets face it what bar bathroom is? And literally right outside the bathroom there are tables to sit and eat. I feel bad for anyone that leaves a smelly situation one night while people i trying to eat. Eww ::gag::.
HOTTIES: Some of the waitresses were cute, and i did make good eye contact with a cougar eating dinner with her "husband".
AMENITIES: Average bar, nothing fancy.
MEAL: Buffalo wings and 2 pitchers of beer.
PRICE: Cant remember exact price, but it wasnt expensive maybe 30, 40 bucks.
DECOR: Average bar scene, table, chairs, bar. Nothing extravagant.
DRESS CODE: None
This place is technically a 2.5 but I am rounding down because it has a tourist vibe to it. My understanding is that the Davenport hotel(s) may have an ownership stake in this joint, which only annoys me as it is likely a price boundary to their over zealous fare. My sandwich (reuben) was suitably ooey-gooey but in general, this place errs on the side of grease/salt. In fact the french fries were so salty that it was borderline intolerable. The atmosphere is confusing and tables are placed haphazardly around the pub's dining room. It seems like you are supposed to just watch the side or back of someone else. Sitting in here feels like you are on stage.
The menu is out of control. Too many options usually means too much mediocrity. And this place proves the point.
One last thing...the beer, well... it's OK from a selection standpoint but the staff wasn't particularly well informed about the details. If the place wasn't named an "ale house" I probably would cut them slack but really, these guys should speak more authoritatively about their fare. If the staff is comprised of people that drink mimosas and/or  coors light, it's tough for a beer drinker/hell raiser like me to buy in.
I stopped by Post St Ale house while visiting my parents in Spokane. I came in for a local draft and would have probably stayed for 2, but it wasn't really worth it. I saddled up to the bar. The girls wearing sweatshirts and not-fitting jeans to the left of me were in some deep conversation... the guys to the right of me were having some dull conversation about "stuff". (I feel like that is a Spokane thing... people just talk about 'stuff and stuff.' It's conversation that just sits and never goes anywhere) Everyone else was seated in booths. The bartender was busy with the other wait staff. Blah.
It may be good to go to eat or with friends... but it was just another bar for a traveller.
I wanted to like this place. The atmosphere was great, good music, good beer list. Everyone I was with liked their food, so maybe my burger was the exception, not the rule. You know it's bad when you pick it up and grease pours, not drips, down onto the plate and part of the bun is already grease soaked. I gave up about half way through. That bun just wasn't enough for the "World's Best Cheeseburger."
Review Source:Food is OK. Atmosphere pretty good. Food was average. The nachos were small for money and way too salty. Fried Pickles were good. Â Burgers not bad, onion rings good. Â Good beer selection, fast service. Atmosphere is cool, good service. Â Recommend for quick downtown bite in good atmosphere. If you have more time the "Q" Sports Bar at the Northern Quest Casino has more room, much better food and prices.
Review Source:Came here for drinks with friends. Â This place mostly does beer, hence the name, right? Â However, for us non-beer drinkers, there were a few cocktails on the menu and they will also make anything you ask for.
I had the Near Nature Near Perfect drink ($7). Â Being that the drink is named after Spokane, it was only fitting it also have fresh huckleberries. Â A guy described the drink as a cranberry vodka with huckleberries. Â It wasn't terribly strong, I still had all my wits about me after downing the glass. Â I ended up getting a snack, calamari, too. Â After 10pm they have late night food specials. Â $4 for a small basket of tasty calamari with a decent marinara and tartar without the pickles sauce.
Good atmosphere, I didn't like how they closed at 11:30. Wtf?! Â Yes it was a Wednesday, but I was still in the mood to bar hop...
Park on the street. Â Metered parking is free after 7pm!
Good beer good food but the staff isn't that attentive. I sat for 15 min before anyone even asked if I needed anything! After making eye contact with like 3 staff, I was tempted to just wave them down. Since I am paying for service and not reaching for a beer out of the fridge this matters!
Review Source:A pub in Spokane! I have eatten here twice. The first time we had fish tacos they were good. The second time we had pulled pork and grilled tuna fish sandwiches. They were both excellent, the only thing that would of improved the sandwiches is the tuna could of used a slice of tomato and some lettuce and where was the PICKLE!? The fries are shoestring, not my farvorite. Good beer selection.
Review Source:It was Calvin  L's recent review which spurred me to write:
I agree, Post Street Ale House appears to "play" with the bill in order to pad the total.
We went for the April 1/2 price food promotion during Happy Hour and they neglected to discount the drinks and food half-off. Â When this was pointed out, the waitress had the gall to ask whether the orders came in on time - she was undone by her own timestamp on the bill. Â Even after the bill was corrected for the 1/2 off, she had over-charged for the beers to begin with, charging higher base prices for the beers than what was stated on the menu. Â Not wanting to quibble and ask for yet another correction, we just paid and decided either to never return or make certain the bill received a thorough inspection before paying.
I've heard of this type of practice before with large groups that have been "drinking," but to see it is discouraging. Â On our end, this visit was just a late lunch - odd.
To cap it off, I now feel foolish having tipped on the pre-discount bill. Â I've subsequently found out Happy Hour isn't the same as coming in w/ a coupon or a gift certificate/card. Â One simply tips on the Happy Hour pricing. Â Well.... one bad experience might be enough to say that's it for this place.
Could've been a 4 or 5 star but...
I enjoy this place and would recommend to go in when it's not to busy, otherwise it will take the servers quite sometime to take your order. Good atmosphere and the clientele it attracts is not the D-bag typical downtown goers.
But last I tried to go it was 11:30 pm. About 15 other people inside enjoying a drink. The waitress didn't come to my table till about 11:40 then said they were closing early because it was the weekday. Really! Despite people inside still actively purchasing items, helping the business, they will close early!? Wow, no wonder why in a year this place will sink with the ship known as the quick turnover Spokane economy.
As other reviewers have said, the thing that sets this place apart from many other bars is its large and diverse beer selection. The food was OK; a little on the bland side as far as flavor goes, but the quality was decent. Service is glacially slow when it gets busy in there, and I think we had a rookie bartender or something because she didn't know how to make 2 of the drinks on the bar's drink list that my wife ordered.
I guess if I lived or worked downtown this would be a decent place for beers. Other than that, I don't see the appeal of the place.
Pretty good food for a bar! My husband got the fish sandwich and was pretty impressed with it. They also have those really thin crispy fries which are my favorite! I got the barbeque wings and thought they were pretty good. The crispy-ness was perfect. I would have liked a more spicy bbq taste more then the sweet bbq taste, though. The atmosphere was great, the service was great and the food was pretty good too for it being a bar! I'm sure we'll be back again. :)
Review Source:Great late night hangout! I love their beer selection; the rotating taps are very nice to see, especially living in Arizona I get to try a lot of local beers that I would never see down there.
The staff has been very friendly every time I've been in, and knowledgeable about the beer; willing to make suggestions as well. I've only had appetizers but they've all been quite tasty.
Overall, I really enjoy this place, and generally make a point to visit here at least once whenever I'm in town.
A great sports pub. I had a chance to spend some time here this weekend, watch some games, eat some great food and wonder which beers to try. They had so many selections it was hard to decide which beer to order. Not a problem, as you can sample 4 at a time. The halibut and chips were awesome, some of the best I've had. The quality of the food and service was outstanding and makes this place a small gem in downtown Spokane.
Review Source:Nothing super special here. I just stopped by with a friend and we grabbed a couple of beers and a little food late at night. They had a decent selection of beer on tap and the food came out quick and they took our orders accurately. Admittedly I didn't stay long but I wouldn't mind stopping by again for a quick drink while waiting for friends or on the way home from a long night.
Review Source:I went here on a whim with my boyfriend, I always see it on my way home from work.
I have to say we loved it. Great Service and Great Food.
Our waitress was very attentive, and when we ordered the 5 beer sampler from their extensive list (20 on tap alone) she made suggestions based on our unique taste preferences. Which was great since I'm a novice beer drinker at best and my boyfriend is kind of a beer snob.
We then split the calamari which was excellent! I also had the wedge salad which was HUGE and he had the Fish and Chips, which he scarfed down before I even had a chance to try them. : ( haha.
I would defiantly go here again with friends to watch a game on one one of there 4 flat screen TVs.
I didn't order food, but the beer was pretty good. Â I like even more selection, but I am a snob about beer so what can you say. Â Prices are not bad, 5 for a pint 14 for a pitcher. Â Mostly PNW micros, including rotators from some PNW breweries. Â I will go back. Â
This place just showed me that downtown Spokane is on the way up.
The service is pretty good and the beer selection is pretty good.
The food I've tried isn't as good as I'd want for the prices they charge.
The price for their halibut fish and chips is on the high side, but includes only two very small portions of halibut.
The shoestring fries leave much to be desired - they are not only as thin as shoestrings but just about as limp.
Further, they tout that their burgers are CAB (Certified Angus Beef). This is a meaningless trade-industry designation meant to convey the impression of high quality. It says nothing about the grade of the meat and has no real correlation to USDA grades like prime, choice and select.
The main appeal of this place is the great selection of beer on tap. Â I was not too impressed by the food, fries were extremely salty to the point of borderline inedible, and the sausage in their chili dog had a weird texture.
I'd be willing to try something else. Â The service is slow when it's busy, but friendly. Â Did I mention they had a great selection of beer? Â I'd definitely head there if I visited Spokane again, just to get Stone IPA on tap.
