    Bar food.loud and rude service

Owner is quite rude. Couldn't tell you how the food is because of his approach to a very minor issue he chose to totally mishandle.  Terribly paranoid apparently about being caught on an under aged drinking
sting.  Did not properly apply the laws and couldn't handle being called on it. We spent almost $3000 in Walla Walla this past weekend.  None of it at this establishment.

The food here is delicious.  We split the calamari and it was probably the best calamari that I've had from a bar.  The rings were hand breaded, not dripping in oil, and had a nice crunch to them, without being chewy as calamari often is.  My entrée was the fried chicken and again this was superb.  The breading on the chicken was delicious, the mashed potatoes were tasty, and collard greens were flavorful.  My fiancée enjoyed her reuben but she thought the meat was a bit on the fatty side.

I was going to give five stars until the server just kind of fell asleep on us at the end and took forever to get us our check and bring it back.  He was fine up until that point, so I'm not sure why we got ignored despite him passing by our table on several occasions.

Public House 124 seems like the hot place to be on a Saturday night in Walla Walla.  Sue and I had gone to see a movie, but did a search on late night food in this town before.  We weren't sure if there was going to be anything open to eat after the movie got out, but this place was on the list.  We walked over before the movie just to make sure and the guy behind the bar said they would serving food until they closed at midnight.  Score.  We knew where we would head for a late dinner.

Apparently everyone else in town had the same idea.  We showed up after 9 and the place was jumping.  We waited in front for a few minutes with a crowd of other people for a table to open up.  I noticed that there were some empty chairs at the bar area in the middle back of the place so I walked over and asked someone if we could grab them.  He said we could so Sue came back and we no longer had to wait.  We ended up waiting a bit longer until a server came over with some menus.

After that the service was excellent.  Our main server gave us menus, but then he seemed to get pretty busy.  Another server saw we were sitting there without drinks or anything and came over to remedy that.  We ended up having 3 people wait on us throughout the evening.  It was completely understandable as the place was packed and these guys and girls were running around like they were chickens with their heads cut off.  Sorry for the imagery veggies.

For food I had the Pork Butt sandwich with truffle fries.  Sue got a hamburger.  The Pork Butt had a lot of flavor and they give a huge portion of fries with what I believe was house made ketchup.  Sue wasn't very hungry so I ended up eating half of her burger.  For drink I had Blue Mountain Cider from nearby Milton-Freewater, OR.

I would absolutely come back to this place again.  Don't know how long they've been around, but they are doing something right here in downtown Walla Walla.

Stopped here on our first trip to Walla Walla (from Pendleton).  Loved the atmosphere and some of the food selections.  It was a little more pricey that Yelp originally let on and the menu was limited.  Good food and good beverages.

I came home for a wine tasting weekend with my girls. Public House has been open for a bit- but I hadn't made it in since they opened. The service was great, their salad rolls are AMAZING, and everything was decent prices. I will definitely go back! Great atmosphere/staff, delicious food, and drinks to satisfy anyones preference.

I was really impressed by this place! The food was really good but fairly limited. I had the burger and it was perfect. The bun is homemade? really compliments the meat! Fantastic beer selection for a small place! Our server was a little preoccupied but we got what we needed. I'll be back every time I'm in WW!

This place is a great place to get a drink in the evening.  Love to sit up at the bar and chat with Matt as he mixes up drinks.

Definitely a favorite of ours when we visit the area. Never have actually sat down in the restaurant for a dinner because my wife and I prefer seats at the bar due to the bartender/co-owner Matt.

Fantastic margs (my favorite) fresh cocktails with local ingredients and great beers on tap.  We've had a lot of the appetizers and have yet to be disappointed - we are due to have a  full dinner here next time :)  Great place after a day of tasting vino.

    Cheers!!!

Matt was the best server we have had during our stay in Walla Walla. He was some sort of mind reader. Perhaps his mother is a Ninja and his father a Wizard of sorts.......but I digress.

I thought I needed more napkins and napkins appeared. I had one more sip of beer left and magically Matt appeared with yet another cold one. We had a party of about ten people and it was a busy night for the Public House 124. Matt made our experience much better than our first visit for lunch a few days before when the bar was completely dead. Lets just say he turned this from a 2 star review to a solid 5!!!

Happy we gave it a second shot.

P.s. The food was very good.

This is very much a bar and not a restaurant. Limited menu with food that seems to be trying too hard to warrant the price, though it is quite tasty. The atmosphere is nice and casual. Spacious and dimly lit.

Public House 124 is one of my favorite places to grab a drink in Walla Walla. The staff is friendly and the service they provide is great. I love the story behind this location;  before this space was shaped into the homely intimate space that is Public House, it was a ski shop. The creativity of the owner and his team transformed this bland open floorplan into a great common room featuring a full bar and open kitchen. My favorite place to slit is the bar-height table in the center of the room. The bar-staff is more than willing to provide suggestions for those who are looking to explore their drink options, or just produce your favorite drink both quickly and properly. Definitely try their Garlic Truffle fries, they are absolutely great. Public House attracts a wide variety of folks whether it be tourists, students & professors, or just the local regular crowd - - definitely a cool eclectic mix of people. I would definitely stick to PubHouse for their wine and cocktail selections, but those who are looking for expansive beer options may be disappointed.

One of the best dining experiences I've had in awhile. We recently visited Walla Walla for my sister's bachelorette party. Public House 124 looked a great choice for dinner. We showed up around 7:30 (prime time for dinner) with 12 city gals. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the warm evening without any wait at all.

One of the owners and our server provided service completely beyond our expectations! Not only were they by attentive to our needs during dinner, but they didn't even bat an eye when we requested separate checks! To top it all off, they gave my sister a pub t-shirt souvenir.

The food should also be raved about - the truffle fries were definitely the big hit in out group and most definitely one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten! The only thing that was disappointing was the small food menu, but the atmosphere and service quickly made up for that.

This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

I would highly recommend Public House 124 to anyone visiting Walla Walla and I can't wait to visit again!

Ok I gave this place a second chance a couple days ago  and really enjoyed myself. The food was great, me and my friend had the salmon and the Reuben. Both were well cooked and well seasoned. I will be back!

Relaxed atmosphere with good effort on the food. We tried the small plates including the cashews, salmon, chicken wings, dumpling roll with cabbage and onions. Wine list very limited for a wine town but some decent selections. Overall, a decent spot but well short of superb.

Get out of here!  I am blown away by this place and would put it up against anything in Seattle in a similar genre.  Upscale pub food at its best.  The chicken friend steak is killer with a nice mushroom brown gravy, sauteed greens and truffle fries.   We've had several menu items (including the best burgers in town) and find this to be our favorite spot in WW.   The servers are great, the bartenders are friendly and fantastic and creating amazing drinks.  I would like to see some daily dinner specials to mix it up a bit....but does not impact my opinion of the place.  Lots of great places in WW, but this place seems to be the place I want to keep going back to.

Great drinks and great food! Food and drink selection is always changing. Food comes out as it is prepared so be okay with it if you get your entree before or after the person you are with. Just relax, have another drink and go with the flow. It is definitely worth the wait!

Great drinks (Get the ski lift!! Seriously! Hot cocoa with peppermint schnapps AND vodka!!) I had to remove one star because of the strange service...kind of spacey even on a mild mid-afternoon. I'll still be back next time I'm in town and will update my rating if they figure it out.

Seriously my favorite bar in town.  Please take note of that first sentance, this is a bar.  Not to be seen stricly as a restaraunt.  Though the food and decor would make you think otherwise.  To start,. the decor is classy with an air of elegance and simplicity rolled into one.  It reminds me of walking into many upscale Portland Oregon bars.  However as this is a new place and is popular be prepared for limited seating on a busy friday or saturday night.  This is not to say the place is small, rather it is that busy and popular.  Some of the wait staff need better training while some bring the best service you would want.  That is to be expected for a fairly newer bar and food establishment.

The food is delicous and well prepared, I am pleased to say that they have what I consider is the best burger in town.  Between the grilled chicken, pork belly, steamed clams, chicken wings, rib eye and burger I always leave well satisfied.  Mathew Huntington the head bar tender and co-owner will always greet you with warm service and will take care of any unsatiasfied customer.

As in the previously stated reviews do be prepared for the smell of truffle oil to permeate the air.  Though the truffle fries are their signiture addition and get great raves from locals they are my only deterant.  The truffle oil is used in excess and tends to coat the fries in flavor, rather than subtly hint of truffle.

The drinks and cocktails are more than well priced leaving plently of room to sit, relax and enjoy another round with freinds.  I would recomend this to anyone in town visitng looking to sit and enjoy a drink while having a fun time with a great and relaxed atmosphere.

We love Public House 124! We drove over a mountain pass, tasted some wine and were starving. We walked in the door and it was the perfect neighborhood bar. Then it just got better. We had the best burger that I have had in a long time. We enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner on our second night and had an excellent Rib Eye and a Chicken Fried Steak. From the food, to the staff, to the great customers...all done top notch!

If I were in Walla Walla again, I *might* give this place one more chance, as that's usually my policy, but I doubt it.  The service, or lack of, was inexcusable.  We sat down and were ignored, then my boyfriend approached the bar and a drink menu was practically thrown at him.  We left.

Loved visiting this new joint in Walla Walla. Had to wait a few minutes to get in (it's popular!) but once we were in the decor and atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for.

The cocktails are AMAZING - great menu or the bar tender will make up drinks to your taste (I really liked his cucumber, cardamom, black pepper margarita). The owners are really friendly and walk around to check in on you. And we loved the dinner menu, fun apps to share and main courses. Really loved the hoisin crepe, heirloom tomato salad and pork strata sandwich. The truffle fries are delicious too!

The live music (no cover charge!) on Friday night was a nice treat we weren't expecting. Can't wait to go back on our next visit to WW!

I was really looking forward to trying this, as it is new to WW and we need a few new places to eat.    A disclaimer to what may seem like a bad review - I will go back, and I am happy they are here.  They just need to fix a few things.
First of all, the entire place smelled of truffle oil and I hated that.  even my drink from the bar, which was bourbon-based, smelled like truffle oil.  Everything we got smelled like truffle oil and when I got home, my clothes smelled like truffle oil.  YUK
The service was poor.  We waited for waters, we waited to order and when we did order, the way the food came out was bizarre.  I received my salad, 5 minutes later my companion received his appetizer AND my entree came out, but no entree for him, and 10 minutes later, still no entree from him.   When the app and my entree came out, they were plopped down without a how do you do - no offer of "anything else", no offer for ketchup to disguise the truffle oil, no nothing, and especially no explanation as to why the 2nd entree wasn't there.
Finally, after I was half done with my meal, my companions entree came out, with a smile and no apology and no explanation.
I had to flag our waitress down to ask for mayo for the truffle fries and for more dressing for the salad, which she did bring promptly.
My companions entree was good - he had the half chicken and he liked it, although the smallish portion left him hungry.   My entree - the burger - was fine, a good portion size and well-dressed, but I had ordered it medium-rare and it came out well done.  I did not even try to send it back, so my bad there.
Overall, it was OK, not great.  The poor service would not stop me from going there again because I know they're new.  The pervasive smell throughout the place would keep me from going often.  I'd suggest some kind of venting system, if they continue with the truffle oil.  Bleh.

Outstanding food, but the service needs polishing. Part of the downtown wine tasting scene in Walla Walla, Public House 124 is the new kid on the block. It sounds like they've been open about two weeks. The decor and food are fantastic. They have a full list of beer, cocktails and wine. Our lunch of truffle fries, a house-made bratwurst and pork shoulder sandwich with picked onions were absolutely delicious.

Usually I give a new joint a lot of slack for faulty service, but this place has been open a couple weeks and at 2 p.m. on a Saturday it was not at all busy, so I think we just had a faulty waitress. Everything started out just right, but then things fell apart. Our empty iced teas were never refilled. My entree came out but with no silverware or napkins (and I had a salad on the side). A side of ranch dressing also came out, which did not go with my entree and left us curious. My husband's entree was no where to be seen.

Finally after about five minutes - after we saw the waitress inside messing with the blinds so she could have looked out to our patio table to see how we were doing, and there was still no sign of help - Kendall went inside to ask for his entree, our silverware, and some refills on our water. The waitress' response? Not an apology, but an excuse: our plates come out family-style so they may not arrive at the same time. I don't buy it - we were not ordering family-style dishes, this was not explained to us when we ordered, and how does that excuse the lack of silver and refills?

After she realized that Kendall wasn't happy, she hurried out behind him with silverware, a refill on the water and an assurance that his food would be right out. It was another few minutes, a full seven or eight after I received my entree, that he received his bratwurst. Which had clearly just come off the grill, as if she forgot to place his order (which is our guess). And the side of ranch dressing? It was for his salad, for which he had ordered ranch dressing. But it was dressed with a vinaigrette and the ranch was delivered on the side. Huh?

Again, not faulty service in general, just a faulty waitress. The food was so good that I would still recommend that you give this place a try. And we might try it again next time we are in Walla Walla. But with so many restaurants competing for business, the owners will want to polish this up before they lose the opportunity to create repeat customers.
